Ninjago AU loosely based on the lunar chronicles (concept art?)

7 years ago, there was a widespread “plague” of spores that could rot through flesh if they touched it. This made prosthetic limbs and bones somewhat common, but cyborgs are still treated as second class citizens. Cyborgs must be registered with a human “handler.” In theory, the handler is meant to make sure that their mechanics don’t malfunction, but in practice, it’s an excuse to arrest or berate cyborgs who are seen out in public alone. In the “bad” part of town, there’s a big group of rebels planning to escape the city and find somewhere they’ll be treated as equals, but if the police catch anyone who’s known to be a protester, they mysteriously disappear, and there’s no confirmation of exactly what is done to them.

Zane (18) - Zane was badly affected by the plague, leaving him with lots of metal plating around his body and a prosthetic right arm from the elbow down. He has no handler and is running from an arrest warrant. He’s heavily involved with the protestors, and has only gotten more anxious about escaping the city after his girlfriend, Pixal, was caught and taken. He believes that she is out there somewhere, and is determined to find her.

Nya (15) - Nya is classified as a cyborg, even though she only has a few square inches of plating around her right hip. She was exposed to the plague as a child, and lost both of her parents to it. Along with Zane and her brother, Kai, she is heavily involved in the protests. She and her brother live in an orphanage, where the overseer is her legal handler. She and Kai are biding their time until he turns 18, and can become her handler, so they can run away and escape the city with the other protesters.

Kai (17-18) - Kai, though he isn’t a cyborg himself, is among the most enraged at the injustice they face. He’s gotten into risky stunts with the police before, and has just barely evaded arrest. Zane urges him to be cautious, but Kai refuses. Once Kai turns 18 and becomes his sister’s legal guardian and handler, he plans to leave the city with her and Zane to search for Pixal.

Lloyd (15) - Lloyd lost his father to the plague, and lives in the same orphanage as Kai and Nya. He isn’t heavily involved in the protests, but he supports the cause, and wants to leave the city as soon as he gets the opportunity. His father was friends with Cole’s mother, and Cole used to babysit Lloyd when he was little. Lloyd uses this connection to further the plan.

Cole (19) - Cole lost his left arm in a rock climbing accident. Thanks to his father, a famous singer, he has the most high-end prosthetic money can buy. His privilege has made him slightly careless, and he gets in regular arguments with his father about being seen alone and leaving the house. His mother died to the plague. He was family friends with Lloyd growing up. He wasn’t involved in the protests, until a familiar face showed up at his door in the middle of the night…

Jay (17) - Jay lives outside the city with his parents, who are both cyborgs. Since many refugees escape outside the city, they live in a community of mostly cyborgs. Jay is a talented mechanic, and provides repairs and upgrades free of charge as an excuse to experiment. They live mostly free from the discrimination that they would face in the city. One morning, a group of kids from the city show up and start shaking things up…

This AU is in progress!! Will I ever finish it? Who knows!

no fr!? IM GLAD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THAT! Like, can I just yap about this for a hot minute ??

I always hated Nadakhan with all of my heart as a kid, even if some of the things he did kinda went over my head, I always thought he was weird and creepy. he is different from the other villains, and his actions 100% show that he’s a CREEP. (COUGHS the scene where he goes to kiss Nya.. the literal teenager.. so lucky that scene cut off) I’m obviously not a parent so idk if I should rlly have a say on if it was a good idea to tackle this in a “kids show” or not. But hey, at least they depicted him and his actions as evil and disgusting (because they are).

Rewatching Skybound a few weeks back had me absolutely BAFFLED and SHOCKED at how much I truly missed as a kid about Nadakhan and his vile actions. It’s a VERY different experience watching Skybound and being mature and aware of things like that, especially as someone who has had some experiences with manipulation and grooming… Nadakhan shows all the signs- there’s no doubt in my mind that any scene portraying things he did (or possible things he could’ve done) were on purpose to represent that. I mean.. how come Cole found Jay in NADAKHAN’S room when he was rescued..? Why wasn’t Jay in his cell..??? (I got an icky feeling when I rewatched that scene.)

I genuinely think Skybound as a whole just has an underlying theme of pedophilia, grooming, manipulation, and sa. Yes sa too. Anyone want to remember the scene where Zane got pinned down by Mechanic and had his shirt unbuttoned?? Yeah, cause that was ALSO in Skybound. there’s a video on YouTube that points out many times where Nadakhan acted like that and shows the scenes of evidence to this. Im sure you’ve watched it already, but i’ll put it here anyway:
