Reversed possession. Forgot about Thomas being possessive or have some yandere tendencies. What if a fem presenting Y/n was in love with Thomas. And would despise any non family women being close to him or try to manipulate him, hence why they're tend to get rid of the issue without permission. And if Hoyt or mama tried to tell him that Y/n is dangerous and not good for him, she'd convince him otherwise.
oooo this is fun!!š«
I'm so sorry this took a while to finish up!!
Thomas would have the biggest trust issues EVER - Who does he trust: The person he's in love with, or his family? His family...right?
"I'm telling ya, she's good for nothin', Tommy."
"That woman'll eat you alive - and not in the good way."
"I don't like her. Not one bit, Thomas."
"I've been with a lot of chics in my life, Tommy-boy (lie). I'm telling ya, she ain't no good."
Hoyt is genuinely concerned for Thomas. He's seen how you look at the family, how you coo and 'seduce' Thomas into trusting you. He's seen just how manipulative people can be, he's a manipulative guy himself - And he knows just how desperate Thomas can get in terms of love.
Luda Mae/Mama is SO worried - And especially annoyed. She doesn't like you - "not one bit." She tries to convince Thomas that you're good for nothing, you're a "snake", artificial, whatever she can to get Thomas away from you. She's even pretended to have "run out of food" to convince Thomas "she may be the only 'food' we've got for a while.."
Of course, Thomas refused with a sharp shake of his head..though he was hesitant on both sides
__
Or..does he choose you?
"Tommy, they're lying. Lying about everything."
"I need you, don't you need me?"
"No one's gonna love you like I can, baby. I can promise you that."
*Referring to a previous "conversation" with Charlie* "Don't you know how manipulative that sounds? They're trying to manipulate you, Tommy - Keep us apart. You don't want that, do you?"
One simple "I love you" paired with pleading eyes..He's done for. Thomas can't really resist that..at least not anymore.
As soon as Thomas puts his foot down with you, the act begins to falter.
I just keep imagining that one scene in Pearl when the projectionist tries to leave and Pearl goes batshit crazy:
"Did I do something wrong?" - "Why'd you just go cold on me?" - "What did I do wrong?"
"I don't understand, I thought you liked me.." - "Why did you change?" - "You're not leaving me here."
__
Tommy is...well, he's Tommy. In the end, he's extremely family-oriented. And unfortunately for you..Charlie Hoyt's got him wrapped around his trigger finger.
Thomas loves you, he stays with you, but Hoyt makes sure to keep you in line. AKA, he never tolerates disrespect to the family. You're always being starred-down at dinner {by most of the family}. He gives you more chores, takes less precaution when dealing with "guests" around you {he'll happily get violent and gory around you, this is the life you signed up for, is it not?}, and still continues to talk with Thomas about your..behavior.
Mama still doesn't like you - That'll likely never change if you continue with such behaviors. But, you're family..as reluctant as she is to admit it.
Honestly - You fit right in with the family: Possessive, violent?, manipulative; You're the whole Hewitt package! It'll just give them time to realize that :)
I love imagining Thomas becoming such an oddity that he has his own subreddit and video-essays dedicated to him. SPECIFICALLY if Thomas had a YouTube channel that he posted random shit on - Like his creations and creative processes or whatnot. {He'd never show his full body, just his arms/back}
And because of how ominous and bizarre his videos are, people on the internet would start questioning things {noises, settings, ect.} in reddit and such {he's not too good at editing those out ;)}
He'd be like one of those internet oddities/anomalies that used be everywhere on the internet
Not so surprisingly..the Hewitt house would be found, pictures would be uploaded, and people would begin to put two-and-two together..

Thomas Hewitt x Meek/Emotional Reader
Thomas Hewitt x Caring Reader - How Thomas' Outcome Would Differ From the 2006/2003 Remakes
loves ya - once I finish these {and wrap up intensive assignments} I'll begin brainstorming pt. 2 to Proprietorial
his lustrous blue orbs
I have such a hard time reading fan fiction because the logical side of my brain wants to remember how dry and cracked Thomas' lips would be
Plus how RANK his breath is.
I love you Thomas but this is no way to live
what do you think a modern-era thomas would be like? i wonder how different he would be from his canon version with the greater normalization of mental health disorders and everything (and possibly being able to stay in school for longer). i love reading your posts :)
I love reading your posts :)
I think the most impactful effect of the modern AU would be Thomas' mental and physical condition. He'd most likely get diagnosed quicker and more accurately -
'Mental Retardation' - ASD 1
Would not be diagnosed with 'Mental Deterioration'
Disfigurative/Disfiguring Facial Disease - CLE or Pustular Psoriasis {Possibly both}
Birth Defect {Assumed to be an Incomplete Unilateral Cleft} would stay the same, potentially fixed at birth IF the Hewitt's had the money
Other mental disorders:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Depression
Apraxia of Speech {?}
PTSD
--
With the earlier/more accurate diagnoses, Thomas {if the Hewitt's had the money} would have more treatment/management options. For example:
Therapy: ABA, Speech therapy, general psychology
Medication: Anti-depressants, Anger management, Anti-anxiety, Anti-Psychotics
Honestly..I doubt the Hewitts would approve of either..BUT they'd be more open to it than compared to the canon timeline {due to less societal pressure}
_____
School...oh boy. Depending on what year he'd be born {late 80's - early 90's} his accommodations would change {not too drastically, though}.
The Americans with Disabilities Act {ADA} was signed into law in 1990 by former President George H.W. Bush, meaning Thomas {if he had a 504 or educational plan of some sort} would require accommodations. That being said...he went to school in a small conservative town...in the Deep South...that is heavily religious..
Would he have stayed in school longer? Most likely. Would he have graduated..I don't think so. LISTEN - He'd probably drop out around 14/15 {not that it was legal} - To work at the slaughterhouse. School would've been overwhelming not only from work, but the social aspects as well. He wasn't the best in school..
If he did happen to make it through high school, I doubt he'd go to college - but that's just me.
He would NOT be employed at age 12, as the Texas Child Labor Laws {finalized in 1993} state:
"The Texas Child Labor Laws make sure a child is not working in a job or way that could harm the child's safety, health, or well-being. Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) also has rules to make sure a job does not interfere with a childās education. It is illegal to employ a child under 14 except under specific circumstances."
_____
Okay!! Now time for more personalized modern AU headcanons š¤
IF he had a phone {which I don't think he would, unfortunately} he'd like playing random mobile games. I'm talking Tetris-esque and solitaire games {and those of similar nature}.
--
He'd grow his hair out - OP and I have talked about this; He'd grow it out a bit. Maybe not terribly long, but longer than his 2006 length. {I have no idea why this would be modern-related but it popped in my mind}.
--
I don't know if Thomas would be the type to watch TV, honestly. Maybe whatever's on here and there - Eavesdropping on what the family's watching - But nothing too particular.
--
The family would not spend money on mobile phones. I'm sorry, but they wouldn't..they really don't talk to anyone outside of the family, and even then, they'd most likely have a rotary or push-button phone.
--
The Hewitts are poor, okay? Which leads me to believe Thomas would have a CD player as opposed to an online streaming service {for music}. I just envision this post.
--
Possible Music Taste {Open to suggestions}: Type O Negative, The Smashing Pumpkins, Korn {momentarily}, Led Zeppelin, Mortician, Cannibal Corpse, Pantera, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Alice In Chains, Johnny Cash, The Highwaymen, Elvis {momentarily}, Lynyrd Skynyrd {momentarily}, ACDC {momentarily}, Slipknot {momentarily}, hear me out..Radiohead?
--
Thomas would have more variety in his masks - Listen, rural Texas is still rural Texas, but it's not 1960's rural Texas. There'd be more variety in the people there {both from in and out of town}, which leads me to believe his masks would show that.
--
The family would have a bit more variety in their food - Not by much, but still an influential amount. Think about it, Luda's community center/gas station would get some different things {especially in the 2020's}. Vapes, new chip and sweet brands, gum, different soda pop brands, more fast-food-esque stock, but still new stock nonetheless. I'm sure she'd bring some home for the family..even if it's just a bit.
--
I think Thomas would dress relatively the same - Wearing his Sunday clothes to work at the bug-infested bloodfest that is the slaughterhouse {we love a gentleman}.
--
Okay listen, I know this post is about Thomas but I just thought of something: Hoyt would want a phone. NOT because he's social, but because he wants access to certain things..with ease. The Hewitts wouldn't have internet but that doesn't mean Hoyt won't drive out somewhere. He'd have a Facebook account - You can't tell me different.

yay modern Thomas playing solitaire with his momma
Pinterest board {+ sections} I use to get inspo for writing {including Tumblr posts}
possible TCM reference...
Listening to Televangelism and thinking about the scene from 1:28:10 to 1:19:20 in the 2003 TCM. Man..I know it's supposed to be a victorious moment for Erin, which it absolutely is - But God I can just imagine how stressful it was for the family. Not only did Thomas just lose an arm, but Charlie dies too? Henrietta loses "her" baby?
I can just imagine Luda rushing over to Charlie's body, not fully processing that she just lost her son / brother - Family member nonetheless. Someone she'd already lost him once {the war as well as his 'Hoyt' persona} - Only to lose him again - eternally. And on top of that; Her only surviving son comes home mutilated?? AS WELL AS having to re-home?
Henrietta was evidently attached to that kid; How she got her was wrong, but she loved her nonetheless. Hen has no idea where she is, how she disappeared - Her stress is through the roof when paired with the other tragedies.
What hurts the most is that just before Charlie's death - Just before the baby is rescued - We see a true moment of humanity within the Hewitts. All of them leaning to see the baby - Charlie showing up instead of Hoyt; His calmer, more open and affectionate qualities showing just enough. Henrietta cooing over "her daughter" - All whilst Luda Mae watches over. AND THE BIGGEST THING: We're introduced through a window. Through Erin's perspective. Why is this important? Because we're watching through a barrier. This is something the family is doing behind closed doors. As soon as the truck driver knocks, their expressions change. 'Charlie' turns into 'Hoyt' {via his serious and pestered expression} - Henrietta gets nervous and shields the baby whilst reassuring her - And Luda Mae's kind and patient demeanor immediately replaced by a guarded and defensive shadow.
Where do they go from here? The strongest member of the family is severely injured and with half the resources he previously had - Will likely be bed-ridden for weeks. The second-strongest, protective figure who ALSO went and 'lured' their main food source is dead. The only ones left are semi-mobile and frail. What else is there? And to think Thomas STAYS?? He stays at the house?? {if we go by the deleted / extended scenes.} The entire family dynamic has to be changed now - Most likely with Luda Mae at the top.
"This family has endured through adversity and pain. We have endured; We have prevailed. We will never go hungry again." Just repeating in Luda's mind as she clutches his hat in despair. Thomas finally coming home only to find his father figure, his main support system - dead and gone.
Y'all I kid you not I have so much going through my mind about this scene
°āā.ą³ąæ*:d
As Thomas' chainsaw collided with the car side, he noticed "SHERIFF" printed on the side doors. Hoyt wouldn't have given up his car - or left the keys in a vulnerable location. Did she steal it? She had to - Hoyt wasn't that clueless. But how? He would've seen it, wouldn't he?
Thomas continued his sluggish walk to the community center; He would've lost so much that day - Mentally preparing to be scolded about "letting Erin get away" - Hoyt would glare upwards at Thomas as he did.
"How the fuck could you let her go?! You see what you've done, Thomas? Now where the hell are we s'posed to go?"
But that scolding never came. Banshee wails and hoarse cries flooded the asphalt road, growing louder as Thomas drew near. A semi-truck was blocking the back road, but not enough to cover Thomas' vision. As he landed closer he saw three silhouettes: One scrawny, mid-height woman clutching her chest as she sobbed near the community center door. Another woman, this time much older, hunched over a figure in the road - the source of the wails. It was his mother.
Her already disheveled appearance deteriorated in the shivering rain - Watered-down and streaky red pigment stained her fingers, which bled onto the sheriff's hat encapsulated within her hands. Though Thomas couldn't make out the wails, he deciphered "Charlie" a few times. Thomas was so perplexed - Charlie what? As he peered down, all confusion was plagued by a sense of shared torment.
Charlie's "uniform" was always covered in blood - But it was never his. Not until today. It had been ironed that evening - Crisp and warm underneath his raincoat. Instead of a dusty blue, his raincoat bled crimson - and mahogany.
Thomas would've taken a scolding over losing Charlie any day. He would've much preferred if Erin had killed him instead. Seeing his mother in hysterics - pleading with God to bring him back. Suddenly, Charlie was overseas again - And Thomas was checking everyday to see if he'd come home. He'd point to Charlie's picture then to his chair in the dining room: "When is Charlie coming home?"
Instead of the expected yelling - The screaming-vomit erupting from Hoyt - Thomas was met with Hoyt's silence. Instead of his furious eyes burning invasively into Thomas' skull - Thomas was met with empty, soulless eyes lost within the asphalt and glazed over with a garnet hue.
"Come on, Tommy, ain't no different than the slaughterhouse. Meat's meat; Bone's bone. Get it done."

So I recently found deleted / extended scenes {Part 1 / Part 2 of 2006, 2003} which gave me more inspiration to write again! Analysis time š
_____
I first want to talk about the most forgotten member of the Hewitt family: Jedidiah. Poor sweet little Jedidiah, probably the most underrated and least-considered member of the Hewitt āclanā. From the clips shown in the video and the movie itself, we can infer that Jedidiah is left alone quite often. Heās also very aware of what goes on both in and outside the walls. Either the family doesnāt try to hide it from him or theyāre doing a shit job at it. Even then, itās kinda hard to hide things from independent children anyway. Jedidiahās a very empathetic and artistic child who understands the Hewitt family values. I.E; the scene where he helps Erin and Morgan escape. Especially when he goes:
āDonāt hurt her! Please, Grandma!ā - 2003, 1:06:48Ā
He looks so defeated after..poor baby.Ā
At around 1:12:40 when heās urgently trying to get Erin and Morgan out of the basement via the tornado shelter exit {I think thatās what the structure is?}
āGo - Go now! Run! Faster, hurry! - Come on, donāt let him get you!ā
āGo! Iāll be fine!ā - 2003, 1:12:45 - 1:14:05Ā
And when he tries to bite Thomasā hand to hold him back?? Poor baby. Iād also like to acknowledge how Thomas didnāt get physical with him , simply just shoved him off his hand and onto the sandbag. In the deleted scenes for 2003, he seems much happier when he gets to show Pepper his drawings; It seems he really needs attention that he isnāt getting at home. Maybe this is similar to how Thomas was raised, though I'm not sure. This is even more apparent when he says āYou sure youāre not just saying that?ā after Pepper compliments his drawing. He very clearly needs a form of guidance and support; Not only for his development but for his confidence. As I discussed in a previous post, Thomas also really enjoys praise, which he gets mainly from Hoyt. Speaking of Hoyt, thereās two possibilities {that Iāve come up with} for how Jedidiah came to be. 1.) Jedidiah is the product of rape, most likely the child of Hoyt and a victim. 2.) They āadoptedā him from a victim or some similar situation. Not much evidence as to his origins, but we can theorize.Ā
____
Moving on to Hoyt; the āheadā of the family. In the extended scenes for The Beginning 2006, we get to see an even more aggressive and short-fused side of Hoyt. He yells more often, heās more violent, and heās definitely more āhands-onā....yay for us. At around 3:20 in this video, as heās going to āattendā to Baileyās injuries, he discreetly gropes her, specifically groping her breast whilst repeating āI aināt gonna hurt you.ā Yeah, okay, pal.Ā And then he LICKS THE GLASS HE JUST PULLED OUT OF HER?? He also really doesnāt like the victims; Like. At all. Heās definitely lustful over Bailey, but he doesnāt like how āsmartā she gets at times. I.E; āIs having a dead biker chick ride shotgun proper police procedure, sir?ā Now, in this video we get to see the more hostile version of Hoyt. Imagine his regular persona x2. At around 0:45 he pulls Deanās head up by his hair and starts yelling is his face;
āYou fucking idiot! I just told you we had to eat! Aināt you listening to me?āĀ
This tells us two things: One, Hoyt really doesnāt like when his authority is challenged via questions, lack of interest, or defiance. Two, he really doesnāt like talking about his time in the war. Itās a traumatic near-death experience which is definitely a soft spot for him. I doubt having to dwell on it, much less repeat it over and over again to someone he already hates is easy. Following that tangent, he quickly switches to his condescending āIām just trying to helpā bullshit. Specifically at 1:09;
āNow what happens if you kids drive all the way up to Austin just to find out that you donāt even qualify to be in the Army? Iām concerned about your physical fitness here.ā
Iāve also noticed that Hoyt gets real up-close nā personal when heās being condescending. Connect this with the moment he ties up and chokes Bailey; We can see Hoyt really likes showing not only his mental dominance, but his physical as well. Now, Hoyt is 6 feet, thatās tall. Compared to Thomas? Thatās 5 inches shorter, and at maybe half or ā of the weight. {I headcanon Thomas at around 330/320.} Hoyt sure as hell feels intimidated by Thomas physically. Mentally? Nah, probably not. He knows he could manipulate Thomas one way or another.Ā
Now; Iād like to focus on how Hoyt treats the family. He rarely if ever gets fussy with them to the extent of the victims. In the 2006 deleted scenes, at around 5:54 - 6:20, Hoyt never yells at Luda Mae and corrects himself when she scolds him. As she raises her voice, he gets fed up but never yells, only says;
āGod damnit, Momma, let me handle this.ā
Heās stressed, sheās most definitely stressed, and he feels the need to control everything to manage it. His speech at 2:01 of the 2006 extended scenes part 1 is very loving coming from him. Heās trying to reassure his family that everything will be fine whilst also shit-talking the āenemy;ā Further isolating them from civilization which theyāve only known to be a negative. He also calmly tries coaxing / ordering Thomas in for supper as opposed to yelling at him. He definitely switches between Hoyt and Charlie around his family; Even though he keeps Hoyt as the ādefaultā to remain in power {which is his source of comfort}, he lets Charlie slip through when itās needed.Ā
____
Now for everyoneās favorite big boy; Thomas <3. The extended scene in part 2 {0:00 - 0:30} when Bailey seeās him and just starts screaming {rightfully so, sheās terrified}. Thomas is just standing there, fidgeting with his hands like š¤Ø/š - I know bro was reliving some school / work trauma. Seeing him fidget and doing whatās called āT-rex armsā makes me think heās neurodivergent. Obviously thatās not the only thing, Iāve been thinking heās autistic specifically for a while now {Me pushing my autism onto a character} but it fits, no? {Maybe I'll do a post talking about his neurodivergence, idk} And he looks so overwhelmed during the dinner / Hoytās speech scene {In the extended scenes part 1.} OH! And ESPECIALLY when Hoyt brings him down to the basement at 37:40 in The Beginning 2006. He looks so overwhelmed and possibly terrified? When you brighten the scene, his expression is much easier to see {Iāll put a picture / gif below}. I think itās safe to assume Thomas was a bit reluctant to continue as Hoyt had to coax him;
āCome on, Tommy, aināt no different than the slaughterhouse. Meatās meat; Boneās bone. Get it done.ā
I think Thomas really only got comfortable with the new lifestyle after he used it as an artistic outlet. Especially when he got to āexperimentā on Eric. Iāve seen multiple people use this scene as a means to say Thomas is gay. And listen, I donāt necessarily disagree, I donāt think heās completely straight either {Reminder, any character thatās sexuality isnāt confirmed means that labeling them as āstraightā is a headcanon too!} I just think thereās more to work with here. I myself have struggles with my sexuality, specifically with how I view women. Iām not trying to push this onto Tommy, I just see potential similarities. I think Thomas was definitely envious of Eric, therefore, taking his face and ābecomingā something similar to him was a way to hide himself and present in a more āattractive way.ā I think heās attracted to men, but his attraction is either masked or based on the idea of being like them. Eric has a life with such intense purpose. An army veteran {returning as well} with a partner, good family dynamic, and a friend group? ONTOP of being attractive and fit? Oh, hun, you know Thomas was yearning right there. He just wants to be good enough. I mean, really really, good enough. I donāt know why, but my brain automatically went to āhe wants to become and consume Eric.ā As in, heās attracted to the idea of being {like} Eric; As well as being attracted to Eric. I donāt know how to communicate this properly so I hope you get what Iām putting down.
___
Again, apologies for my long incoherent rants; I have so many ideas that I want to share
Much love, š«
Hi!! So I actually found this on an article: Here you go!
