something something the primacy of the nuclear family and the nuclear family as the site of discipline/ responsibility/ duty/ redemption leading to this kind of dialogue imo
maybe i'll elaborate more but i think it ties into a lot of other parts of the series i still have to think through, like it's shown with toga's family, twice being viewed as an acceptable character sacrifice because of his lack of blood or emotional ties to any heroes, the narrative's unwillingness to explore the LOV as found family and instead turning around to the biological/nuclear family as the solution (especially for dabi and tomura).
ok ummm sorry but why are people talking suddenly like irl domestic violence victims get any sort of widespread sympathy or support??? like, for one, letās just establish that itās silly to complain that real, living, breathing people are being treated with more sympathy than a fictional character. but even that alone would also be completely wrong, because⦠rl victims are not treated well at all??? did we just forget all the victim-blaming, the slander, the cross-examining, the doubt, and the legal institutions that are weaponized against rl victims all the time???
if you somehow see someone condemning rl abuse but dismissing fictional abuse, itās because they only care about rl abuse in the broadest and most conceptual sense. rl abuse is hated as a contextless idea, or when itās committed by someone the person doing the condemning doesnāt care about, like some dude theyāve never talked to or some celebrity they have no personal attachment towards. condemnation of, like, weinstein, who most people do not know anything about nor care about, is not the same as popular support for victims as a whole. compare the reactions to weinstein vs reactions to johnny depp or even (god) joe biden. the difference is entirely in how much attachment people have to these abusers.
a character like endeavor makes people trot out an entire circusā worth of excuses not because these people actually care about irl abuse as opposed to fictional abuse, but because the narrative gives endeavor a way of playing on peopleās heartstrings and allowing them to nurture an attachment to him, which they will then vigorously defend even at the expense of his victims. they do this as well with rl abusers who they particularly like or have some sort of connection to. itās not that pplās condemnations of abuse are either existent or non-existentāitās that theyāre frequently circumstantial.
please, letās be finished with the insinuations that rl victims receive care and support or even, like, lip service that isnāt getting extended to fictional characters.
I personally am not fond of when people talk about spinner like he isn't human (like specifically saying human is a different thing than what he is) , or when people assume his quirk would effect his genetics in a way that makes him sterile. Like?? He has a very normal mutation quirk. He isn't an animal with a quirk, he's a human, and he has a lizard quirk that just happens to affect his appearance. Tsu has a frog quirk and I don't ever see this about her, and we all know why. Her dad looks just like a fucking frog and I'm guessing since he managed to sire multiple kids he's firing on all cylinders so why the fuck would Shuichi's quirk make him sterile?? He's just a normal ass person with a snout and scales. (I am not counting you monster fuckers with egg fetishes, I understand why that is a plot point often for y'all lol).
But for the rest of you, how can you miss the point about heteromorphs so fucking hard?
seriously what did they put in bnha to make all the villains so interesting and dynamic and unique from each other while still contributing to a common thematic thread meanwhile in the background all the heroes are just slowly melting into the same bland blob. it's insane and dangerous.
