Okay Gah Not To Angst Thr Children’s Show From 2012 But I’ve Been Thinking About The Trans Dipper

I'm reading Light for the first time and Michael Grant is so unserious. He gave this alien-demon-child every power under the sun but also made her nearsighted. I'm cackling.

It's so fucking infuriating how binary trans people who are very clearly just dealing with abusive family members who are playing the goalpost shifting game will hear these clearly abusive family members say "I'd support you if only you were nonbinary, being [chosen gender] is just too much."

And instead of reckoning with the fact that their family members are blatantly lying and goalpost shifting, they instead decide to take these Blatant Fucking Lies at face value.

So then they come online and yell that nonbinary people are actually privileged over binary trans people and we're actually soooo much more accepted by cis people than binary trans people are.

Even though if these binary trans people told their shitty family members that they were nonbinary the goal posts would very blatantly just shift again. Because these cis bigots do not actually want them to be nonbinary, nor do they support nonbinary people. They're literally just fucking lying.

But binary trans people would rather blame nonbinary people for existing rather than accept the fact that their family members are just useless bigoted jackasses who hate all trans people, and are just very clearly pretending to accept whichever category the person they're talking to is not part of.

And it's not just kids who are doing this crap either, there are fully grown adults doing this shit. All in the name of shitting on nonbinary people and pretending that exorsexism isn't real because "actually cis people looooove you". No they fucking don't. You just have shitty people for family and would rather pretend they're not bigots than actually fucking have solidarity with nonbinary people and the basic understanding that you are being lied to to pit you against other trans people by cis people who will literally never accept you no matter how you identify unless you stop identifying as trans altogether and go back to pretending to be cis.

Stop fucking taking the blatant lies that cis people tell you at face value. Nonbinary people are not "more accepted" by cis people, you're just fucking lying right along with your bigoted shitty family members.

Hating us will not make your trans-hating family members accept you. They are fucking lying when they tell you they'd just respect you if only you were nonbinary. And if you keep defending them and directing your hatred at nonbinary people and pretending we have no real fucking problems, you are just as much a bigot as they are.

Sometimes you just need to accept the fact that your family is filled with abusive bigots who are lying to you. If you'd rather keep defending them in the name of hating nonbinary people and using us as your scapegoat, then fuck you.

As Gravity Falls reenters the void, and the inevitably of fanfiction begins to recirculate, there is a comment I fear I must send out to the general public.

As a trans man who gets, like, -1 representation in shows that aren’t explicitly about queer people, I often will latch onto characters that inexplicably have The Trans (TM) written into their bones, which includes Dipper Pines. And, as one might expect, I turn to my silly little A03 account to get my fix of representation and enjoyment of many a trans dilemma. Unfortunately, this is where my qualms get given the spotlight.

This is a generalization, but it seems as though every single godforsaken fic about trans!Dipper (I see this in the Spider-Man fandom a lot too, but that’s a conversation for a different day) he loses all his unhingedness, all his insanity, and is boiled down to a weak and sad little uwu trans boy who can’t handle his own dysphoria and falls apart at every slight inconvenience?

You’re telling me DIPPER, the same man who got called weak one (1) time and then disappeared into the woods for a solid 12 hours and came back half naked and rambling about positive vs toxic masculinity and manotaurs, is going to get misgendered and fall completely and utterly apart? You seriously think he’s going to have a run in with somebody who tries to bully him for being trans and he isn’t going to read them to filth? Are we forgetting that this is the same man who spent a whole episode learning about how to live and let live and then STILL told Pacifica her family was a sham with the mic-drop line of “deal with it”?????

Like good lord, please give this man some credit. I’m not saying he can’t have panic attacks, or trauma, or be treated differently by certain people, but it is the year of our lord and savior 2024 and we are STILL infantilizing trans men in fanon versions of media???

All I’m saying is if Mabel gets to keep her unhinged characteristics, you gotta let Dipper keep his too. Let Dipper punch a transphobe, as a treat.

Nightmare & "Nightmare"

Don't you love it when the fandom comes up with extraordinarily grand ideas to please you? That's the magic of fandom, is a space where you can find anything you will enjoy.

Now! I love the idea that Past/Passive Nightmare still resides in Nightmare. I love the idea that they are two in one body. The ancient, cruel entity and the balanced, necessary side of negativity existing together. I love the idea that Corrupted Nightmare's blind eye is purple. I love that the fact that Passive is still alive, weak but alive, is the reason why Nightmare struggles and has so many contradictions with Dream (and the others).

I LOVE the idea of ​​a truce and how the twins have to spend entire decades to begin to mend their relationship. I love seeing Nightmare having internal struggles that aren't his but are because Passive is still there clinging to existence. They have become one.

I love the idea that Nightmare sometimes talks to Passive out loud. I love the idea that Corrupted speaks in plural about himself sometimes and unconsciously.

Things only last so long though, and this setup doesn't exempt Nightmare and his cruel and merciless nature. But if you can dig deep, sometimes, as if it were the ghostly remnants of someone who is no longer there, there are small moments of mercy that don't belong to the King of Negativity.
