I couldn’t for the life of me figure out why “Every Breath You Take” is on Crowley’s playlist. Other than it provides the “E” to spell out ‘tempting’. But there’s plenty of other songs they could’ve chosen. So why pick the stalker song?
Then it occurred to me that it’s not about Aziraphale. It’s how Crowley feels Heaven and Hell watch him.
Season 2 Spoilers Below
Man, the “welcome home cheater” meme could be applied to Season 2, but not to Aziraphale. To the Bentley. Didn’t see that coming.
Good Omens S2 Trailer Thoughts:
- What’s going on with Crowley and Aziraphale? Where was Crowley? Why is Crowley so nervous. Why is Aziraphale so chilly? Maybe this takes place later in the series than it appears? Wait! I got it! Crowley went into hibernation during lockdown remember? Maybe that's actually canon?!
- Aw! Crowley takes off his glasses to be more open with Aziraphale.
- I liked the bookstore set better last season.
- Michael…your hair is so awful.
- Poor Muriel. How did no one tell her about Crowley? How does she not know what Gabriel looks like? There’s literally a poster of him in Heaven. Maybe by this point she’s already working with Aziraphale and Crowley.
- Um, Mr. Gaiman have you been spending time on ao3? Because um…the whole amnesiac/ Gabriel stuck with Aziraphale for some reason on Earth thing is familiar…
- Poor Crowley. He’s just not having a good time. I wonder if that lightening is coming at him or from him. The latter is kind’ve angelic…
- “You know what it’s like, when you don’t know anything at all, and yet you’re totally certain that everything would be better if you were just near one particular person?” Ahhhhh! My heart!
- Aziraphale thinking back to 1945 and Crowley during that line. Ahhhh! Az is still so in denial it’s hilarious.
- Ooh, Crowley in heaven! I wonder if we’ll get to see how it feels for him to be back.
- Crowley’s angel disguise is so awful! What is his hair? 😂
- Tennant and Sheen together again!
The mystery plot is great and everything, but I’m here for Crowley and Aziraphale adopting Muriel and watching their found family create chaos…
I AM SO EXCITED!!!!
really really hate having to explain to people why relying on generative ai to do anything is bad. water consumption in a world thats already dying of thirst in places. the mental degradation it causes. the unavoidable capitalist exploitation of the weakness and reliance it builds.
"oh i just used it for a paragraph, and i cleaned it up and made sure it looked good."
you couldn't write a fucking paragraph on your own? there is literally no way you could say what you just said that would make me feel anything remotely positive.
Season 2 Spoilers Below!
Okay, unpopular opinion, but I kind of understand why Aziraphale may think Crowley would want to be an angel again, if we put aside the queer allegory of conformity for a moment.
Aziraphale probably remembers the first time he met Crowley (then Rafael) when Crowley was building the stars. Crowley had such a look of genuine joy and wonder on his face.
Aziraphale thinks he is being kind. Obviously, yes he still wants to fix Heaven, which is a futile pipe dream.
But, Aziraphale wants to give Crowley the stars again, and he thinks bringing him back to heaven is the only way to do that.
Aziraphale wants to save Crowley from an existence of eternal damnation. To forever protect Crowley from Hell which he sees as the only source of evil and torture. He still has his blinders on and doesn’t realize this about Heaven.
He just doesn’t realize that Crowley doesn’t need the stars and he doesn’t need saving.
At least that’s what I’m telling myself to cope.
Something I have realized the last few years that has made it so much easier to have fun consuming media:
I can choose whatever bits of a series/franchise I like and disregard the things I don’t. I am not obligated to acknowledge what is officially canon when engaging in media recreationally
The creator of a piece of media is not owed my unwavering support for every aspect of a story.
I can pick out the things I like, ignore anything I don’t then go make a Headcanon or write a fanfic that gives me what I personally want out of a character or property.
The canon content is still there for those who enjoyment and this doesn’t take away anything from the original author/creator. In fact, it just means that someone loves some part of their work enough to want to think about it and play in the world they made.
That isn’t to say I don’t critique media, it’s something I enjoy. I can still debate and disagree with other fans (as long as I do so respectfully). Other opinions and interpretations are valid and wonderful.
But I can engage with story or media however I want, in a way that makes me happy.
I love you Kevin Pollack, but Moishe Maisel sucks. Why the hell would you evict your daughter and grandchildren from their home because of something that your idiot son did?!
Season 2 Spoilers:
The only way for this to be fixed is for Aziraphale to be put in one last, very dramatic “Crowley and/or Humanity vs Heaven” situation.
And he chooses Crowley. He chooses their side. Bonus points if he does it instinctively.
Maybe we bring it around to the “I’ve never killed anything” bit from season one.
Neil and fic writers feel free to use this. Just give me credit. 😂
And when this happens, it’s gonna feel so good.
And it better end in their garden in the South Downs.
So, I’m rewatching Season 1 of Good Omens because we are hours away from Season 2. (I’m very normal about this obviously).
Anyway, I noticed a line that I had never really thought about.
And I finally realized just how hopeful this series is. It’s something I so desperately needed so enjoy…
After Warlock’s birthday when Aziraphale and Crowley are in the car, Crowley mentions that “it’s the last [party] they’ll ever have”.
So…he doesn’t think this plan is going to work. He thinks the world is going to end, The whole “influence the antichrist” plan is his idea, but he doesn’t think it will work.
The funny explanation is that he is convinced after seeing Warlock’s behavior (which included bullying Aziraphale. How dare), he comes to the conclusion that Warlock (who he still believes is the antichrist at this point) is pure evil.
However, Crowley has been visibly less optimistic about their chances (as seen on the bus) for awhile.
Even after Dog is named he bleakly states “we’re doomed.” Yes, he could mean himself and Aziraphale, but his back-up plan is to run away together. I like to think he’s including the two of them along with the humans. Earth is their home as much as it is the humans.
But despite everything, he still tries. He still does his best to save the Earth.
Yeah, he doesn’t want to lose his easy life on Earth where he doesn’t need to work hard and he can drink and drive and listen to music and see Aziraphale relatively unnoticed.
But deep down, despite all of the bad he sees humanity commit, he still thinks that they are worth saving.
When he’s in his apartment, yelling at God, he expresses that She “shouldn’t test them (humanity) to destruction. Not to the end of the world.”
A demon from Hell who has seen the worst of humanity for 6000 years still thinks we’re worth saving. Because he’s also seen the good. And for him, that’s enough.
And that’s honestly so beautiful.
Okay. Time for a hot take.
I’m hate, hate, hate all of the “Midge Maisel is a bad mother” thing being pushed by the fandom and the show.
First of all, plenty of people work nights/ travel a lot/ have jobs in entertainment and spend a lot of time away from their kids. This does not necessarily make them bad parents, just busy ones.
Second of all, this kind of hands-off parenting seems to be normal for the time. We see this a lot in the season 2 Catskills episodes, where various adults simply hand off their children. Later that season, Rose even comments that the children would be confused if she ate with them. And yes, she is instilling unhealthy beauty standards in Esther, but she clearly inherited them in turn from Rose.
Third of all, Midge is seen actively parenting her children to the best of her ability (outside of the stupid flash forwards). Yes Ethan in particular seems to have behavioral issues, but Midge seems unsure of how to handle it. Behavioral therapy is difficult to access today, let alone in the late 50s.
Examples:
- One of the first things she mentions when Joel is leaving her is that they have children. She repeatedly mentions that she wants the separation to be stress free for the children. She wants them to see Joel in a safe environment.
- She repeatedly worries about how her children will be affected by her career choices.
- She’s seemingly the one who takes them to all of their doctors appointments.
- She attempts to find help from Imogene and Dr. Spock when she is unsure, but her resources are extremely limited and don’t help her.
- She mentions specifically wanting to bring Ethan to the record store because she knows he would like it.
- She offers to get Ethan piano lessons when he seems interested.
- She is depicted several times reading to her children at night.
- She planned Ethan’s birthday.
- She is rightfully concerned when Joel is planning to leave for a long time for work on the West Coast, and never see the kids.
- When Abe calls her home in a panic in 2x1, her first thought is the children.
- She’s the one encouraging Esther’s first words.
- She’s the one toilet training Esther.
- She’s open to getting Ethan therapy despite the stigma when he can’t sleep. Joel, naturally, is opposed.
Finally, it is pretty explicitly stated that Midge feels insecure about being a mother during her set at the Vanguard. She explicitly asks if she perhaps “chose the wrong profession” but is now stuck in something she’s not good at. She brushes it off as saying, “women are supposed to be mothers”. She was clearly socialized into being a mother, with her own mother ingraining the necessity of “three before thirty”. Imogene also pushes her to have another baby with Benjamin and Astrid comments during a discussion about her infertility that Midge “did everything right”. It’s implied that if Midge had discovered her career path earlier…she may not have even become a mother.
Midge is not perfect (especially in season 4, where even I- a huge Midge apologist- doesn’t like her), but I don’t think it’s fair to say that Midge was a terrible mother and therefore deserves all of her misfortune.
So, there’s my rant about how Midge, like any parent, did her best as a mother while trying to grow personally, and I’m sick of her being demonized for not being perfect.
people using generative ai to write fanfiction for them is CRAZY. stay up until four in the morning hopping back and forth between your pinterest boards, a random synonyms website, and google docs where you’re stuck in the middle of a sentence deciding whether to refer to a character by their name or hair colour as the lord intended.
