Understood in gambling terms, Twitter is a large and popular casino. There are design features that reward you for small victories while distracting you from commensurate failures. There are no clocks in Twitter. Time is displayed differently within its walls, measured not in dates but in distance from the present. All other visible numbers are cumulative, but you are given the impression that the past does not exist. It most certainly does, permanently and yet stripped of protective context.

Ted declines Harvard’s offer
Exclusive excerpt from Ben Bradlee, Jr.’s “The Kid”: Unlike many professional ballplayers—probably most of them—Ted was embarrassed that he never went to college, or had no formal education beyond high school. In 1991, on the 50th anniversary of his .406 year, Harvard University wanted to give him an honorary degree, but he turned it down, feeling that he would have been out of place among the intelligentsia in Harvard Yard.

ABC has announced it is canceling two soaps: 'All My Children' and 'One Life to Live', which brings to a close an era of TV. @Oprah recently had some of these stars on and, come to think of it, the whole show seemed more like an obit than a promo. I guess not even @Oprah can resurrect the dead.
Look, Mom! That lady is reading a newspaper!
Amtrak from D.C. to NYC. May 2013.
Another great list of books to get you through this bitterly cold winter.
Warning: You’ll probably want to read these books in private, since spontaneous maniacal laughter may ensue.
If you need a laugh on a freezing cold day

Apparently my dad, Jim Beggy, is alive and living at Cusack Terrace in Arlington. Someone not happy about the doggie do.
Just some musings and electronic gatherings of an ink-stained wretch turned social media junkie. As JADAL says: No trees were destroyed in the sending of this organic message. I do concede, however, a significant number of electrons may have been inconvenienced.
