suegiku is absolutely insane like can we take a moment. at first their relationship is played off like a joke like haha tecchou watches ants and jouno hates him but man. man. the fact that tecchou is a man who places justice over everything, while jouno is a sadistic fuck who appears to have no moral code. but theyre partners!! tecchou reigns in jouno when he gets too out of hand. and THEN
tecchou wholeheartedly believing that jouno is a "hero that despises violence and protects the weak", when even the man who recruited jouno and inspired him to save others in the first place only did so because he thought jouno would be easy to use in villainy. of everyone, tecchou is the only one who believes in jouno:s goodness; the one who has spent the most time with him, the one who is known for being singleminded and terrifyingly focused when it comes to destroying evil, the one who's dumb as a brick and oblivious as hell. and he's right!! jouno refuses to join fukuchi. he proves fukuchi wrong. fukuchi was the one who originally saved him and gave him a second chance in helping others, and it was all so he could eventually use him as an assassin. and even though that was a lie, jouno still became a better person, and found someone that believes in him. GRAH.
After everything that happened in this arc, I think we can all agree that Fyodor is the BIGGEST Atsushi hater of all time
the fact that atsushi saw akutagawa was alive and thought 'i must save him', not out of 'i must save him so we can defeat this villain' but simply out of 'alive. must save'
which is his default thinking at any point but isn't it ✨️refreshing✨️ for akutagawa to be part of this mindset

Men are neither devils nor serpents. They are not out to harm you. Let us receive people in a natural way, with true and open minds.
- Fukuzawa Yukichi, An Encouragement of Learning
Being educated does not mean knowing strange words or reading ancient and difficult literature or enjoying poetry and writing verse and other such accomplishments which are of no practical use in this world. These accomplishments do give much pleasure to the human mind, and they have their own values, but they are not to be esteemed and worshiped as much as the usual run of scholars have tried to make them out to be…. Therefore, this kind of learning without real use should be left for another day, and one’s best efforts should be given to an education that is relevant to everyday use.

It is easy to find fault with and complain about all things in society, but it is very difficult to find remedies for these faults.

I'm thinking about Atsushi representing the saint and I'm thinking about Akutagawa representing the sinner. I'm thinking about Akutagawa being the outcast, the damned, the God forsaken. I'm thinking about Akutagawa being forbidden the access to heaven before he was even born. I'm thinking about Akutagawa's life being but a prelude to hell itself. I'm thinking about Atsushi as this Moses-like figure, saved next to a river. Atsushi as the one God decided to spare. Atsushi as the one who was given a second chance to be loved. Atsushi who's life is full of light and warmth.
I'm thinking about the saint loving the sinner despite. I'm thinking about going against God's judgement even when it doesn't favour him. I'm thinking about embracing a life of damnation if it's to love the sinner. I'm thinking about not fearing his soul to be stained. I'm thinking about going against God's will as the most loving act of them all. I'm thinking
*me looking at Rouge* “you will be so girlboss”
Oh boy I thought people were over the Rayleigh-Zoro parallel being a 1 for 1 thing. But I see with this chapter they're not and now they're doing the same with Sanji and Gabán.
Rayleigh was a parallel to both Zoro and Sanji and Gaban's the same.
Rayleigh's a swordsman but he also uses his legs to fight while Gabán uses two axes (which ironically makes for 3 weapons + 1 pair of legs, it's probably just chance but who knows with Oda).
Rayleigh made fun of Zoro's stupidity the same way Sanji would, he's got a got a scar similar to Zoro's.
Rayleigh's a big drinker like Zoro and Gaban's very into love like Sanji.
Gaban's linked to Wano like Zoro and they both like to stir shit up.
Both Sanji-Zoro and Gabán-Rayleigh will not hesitate to argue against their captains if they feel like it's needed, so far Gabán and Zoro have only been shown to do it when they're particularly worried (both shown in chapter 1139), meanwhile Sanji and Rayleigh will scold Luffy-Roger for more mundane stuff as much as when they're worried.
So like outwardly Gabán-Sanji and Zoro-Rayleigh parallels are super obvious but in truth it's a mix because Luffy's crew is not just a copy of Roger's.
(also don't comment by saying that both Rayleigh and Zoro are 1st mate/Vice Captain as a parallel, Oda confirmed in vol. 102's SBS Zoro isn't, which we've been knew but apparently not everyone, anyway the idea of the Strawhats having a 1st mate is just weird when them not caring about hierarchy bc they're a family is so important)
the kny concept art was better
for atsushi to so fully and completely recognise akutagawa's sacrifice and what it means for the person akutagawa is at heart, echoing it back to him so powerfully—akutagawa felt another see him so thoroughly, know him so deeply, that it overwhelmed him into remembering who he truly is. what other recognition could outdo this?
