This is a lovely mushroom, and also a perfect example of mycorrhizal fungi!
The mushroom’s mycelium surrounds the roots of the tree and helps the tree to absorb water and nutrients. In exchange, the mushroom is provided with food and amino acids produced by the tree.

Within 24 hours of emerging the fruiting bodies of the inky cap go through a process called “autodigestion” where they digest their own caps, becoming the black inky liquid commonly associated with these mushrooms.
Many believe that this is to spread the spores of the mushroom, although other doubt this due to the fact mature spores are released before the mushroom’s cells begin to break down

But no need to worry, we all exist. We must remember the value of time, but we must not get stuck in the paradox of existentialism

After a long period of contemplation I have concluded this anons perspective on time itself gives to them being Armillaria ostoyae, as it is known to have live for thousands of years, giving it ample opportunity to observe the paradox of time
Let's talk about possible uses for the dried ghast!
-Lampshade
-Lawn gnome
-Toaster
-Plushie to sit on my shelf
-Rock for landscaping
-Put him in trees as a weird alien fruit
-Back to toaster, you see the resemblance right?
-Stepping stones in pond
-Outlet/plug
(your honor this is a joke)
coughcoughprobablycough
I have cried about him no less than 3 times today
Did the soulsand dry him out??? Did his mommy abandon him??? Are those his mom’s bones and he got dried out waiting for her??? Do ghasts shrink if they cry too much? Why do ghasts eat snowballs if they’re from a no-water environment? Are ghasts from the overworld originally and that’s why there’s fossils there too?
Also the implication of people using the dried ghasts as building blocks? NO! YOU PUT THAT POOR BABY IN WATER RN I SWEAR
A team that (almost) rivals Ivory and Ranboo
“vote scar!!” “No vote zam!!” Yap yap yap YAPPPPP NO I SAY WE VOTE BOTH. Put them on the same percentage, I want to see them both on a team
i fear they would be unstoppable
Mushroom of the Week No. 1
The witches cap mushroom, or Hygrocybe conica, starts off a vivid red-orange with patches of yellow. As it ages it slowly turns black naturally, or bruises black due to injury. This is actually one of the most helpful factors in identification, though the fungi itself is not sought after for its edibility. It cannot be cultivated in labs presently, suggesting that it requires something special from its environment, possibly a mycorrhizal relationship. For this it needs to be investigated further.
