First off, excellent take. Authorial intent is relevant and interesting to discuss, as with the internet, it's easier for creators to interact with their audience.
Secondly this was so comforting! I feel like I now have permission to unapologetically revel in my comfort media, created by fans or otherwise.
Something about kirishima and bakugou being in love makes me so emotional. Even though it's just a ship, the fan works I see for it feel so authentic to me. I can imagine the relationship actually functioning and it makes me get sappy about the experiences I feel I missed out on being in the closet.
In conclusion, am I a repressed gay projecting onto fictional characters? Yes. Does that make them or the artists/writers any less precious to me? No.
i think when judas kissed jesus it was sloppy and with tongue
Every couple years we would have a little Thanksgiving with witness family or "chill brothers and sisters". They would justify it by saying turkey/ham was on sale and we would have a potluck of Thanksgiving food. It was fun honestly, but I remember brothers would have to occasionally call it out on the stage cause so many would do something similar lol.
Now, I’d like to stress that no, we do not call this event ‘Jehovah Christmas’. While I think suggesting that name would get my sister to laugh- I doubt any of the devout family would be happy about it. Instead it is boringly called ‘The November Party’ but I want to suggest a different name.
This family tradition came about last year, before we locked down fully for COVID. It’s a two day event- one day for gifts, the next for food. With that in mind, it’s more of a Christmas / Thanksgiving combo than a unique tradition.
On the first day, the third Friday of every November, we each (8 of us total) get each other a gift, nothing extravagant but there is no hard price limit. We keep gift bags labeled with our names on a big table, and we all just put our gifts in the bags after wrapped. We all open them, taking turns taking a single gift out of your bag. The following day, my dad and grandma cook a big Thanksgiving-like spread. And then, for the one time a year we do this- we eat together at the big table.
This tradition was obviously born out of a desire to celebrate holidays without really celebrating them. I can’t remember who’s idea it was, though I can assure you it wasn’t mine. While I see the obvious hypocrisy here, I’m not going to bring that up and dash away the chance for my sister to experience that little bit of the holidays. Plus, I love it and wish they had done it when I was a kid.
Anyways, if you and your families had any fun traditions like that, please share them because I’d love to hear.
I know I go on fuck terf rampages every couple of months, but it's really alarming how many people in the ex cath and Christian tags have "terfs dni" in their bio and yet interact with and reblog posts from terfs!!
it can be hard to spot dogwhistles, but if you consider yourself an ally to trans women you have to make the effort. here are my tips for spotting terfs:
(disclaimer: i am a white, transmisogyny exempt trans lesbian, from a very white part of the united states. i was raised catholic, clearly am not anymore.)
If on desktop, download shinigami eyes. This is a browser extension that shows transphobic people in red, and trans allies in green.
Block the tags "radical feminism", "gender critical", and "terf safe". when these posts pop up on your feed, you can usually find a whole chain of terfs to block.
red flags in bios: excessive use of the word female; the word goddess; most mentions of vagina, vulva, or womb; the phrase "gender critical"; mentions of pagan goddesses (more on this below)
i have less than 100 followers on this blog, so i understand that this is not viable for people with larger followings, but if you take 30 seconds to search the word "trans" on a new follower's blog, you see either positive or negative posts about trans people.
another common red flag i see a lot is defensiveness over whiteness. i saw a post recently in the ex christian tag that said "well i am white and live in a predominantly white area but i am still oppressed by the patriarchy!!" and when i went to her blog she ticked off every point on this list.
i specifically mentioned pagan deities earlier. i know that a lot of people, once they have left christianity, jump into pagan religions and they find a lot of solace in them. most of these people are fine. but there is so much rampant transmisogyny, misognoir, and antisemitism in the pagan and witchcraft community, that anyone who advertises this on their blog instantly becomes a red flag to me (and I'm usually right).
I really implore everyone in the ex christian and ex catholic community here on tumblr to start taking action, and start blocking terfs. don't engage, don't argue with them, DO NOT GIVE THEM A PLATFORM, just block them, tell your friends to block them, and move on.
me:*hangs out with someone for 3 hours* me: oh hey, I just remembered I have to tell you something me internally: that was a lie. I’ve been wanting to tell you all day but I’ve been too nervous to just say it so I’ve been mentally rehearsing for hours and
The amount of times I decided religous trauma related breakdowns/nightmares were "a sign from God" is honestly crazy. How can you connect that you are miserable because of the cult but not reach the conclusion "I should leave".
i love my lesbian mutuals esp gnc lesbians esp he/him lesbians and nonbinary lesbians i hope youre all having a good day
I just watched infinity train season two, and the main character is amazing! When you leave you a cult you don't just have to rebuild how you view the world, but also yourself. You have to stop trying to change yourself. You have unlearn the teachings that condemned individualality. You have to loudly scream that "I exist!" The character's whole arc revolves around these ideas making her extremely relatable.
Characters that I hold close to my heart as an ex-cult kid
The entire cast of The Path (Hulu) • Venus, Jupiter and Neptune of We Know The Devil (PC game) • Rapunzel (fairy tale) • Lapis Lazuli of Steven Universe • Aziraphale and Crowley of Good Omens (Gaiman & Prachett) • Lake of Infinity Train • Bucky Barnes of Marvel • Mark Grayson of Invincible (Kirkman) • Abigail Hobbs of Hannibal (NBC)
Yo anyone else developing a phobia of asking for help since all the people who are willing to help you require your allegiance to an abusive cult to acknowledge your existence 😎
Not sure who needs to see this, but if a Service Dog starts backing into you, pushing you away from their handler, or they sit down at a leash distance from their handler
You Should Move Away.
They are performing a task known as "spacing" or "blocking" that helps reduce or prevent anxiety in their handler.
They are NOT "asking for pets" or being disobedient or asking to be spoken to. All you have to do is stay back from the dog and handler.
This is not a capslock PSA because I'm not sure how many people that don't have a SD actually know this is a trained task.
