being showcased to relatives and family friends as a perfect child but everything that is being said about you is false and you know that either the person describing you is lying or has fabricated a fake image of you but no matter which you are strongly aware that you have failed to be the person your family desires you to be
I feel so gross whenever fanon plays off Snape's parental issues as an excuse that he actively uses, in-universe, to make Lily feel sorry for him and overlook his bad behavior.
Not only is it out-of character for him, the way it's often portrayed gives off the impression that Snape's account of the severity of the situation is unreliable — when the only context his abusive home life is ever brought up is when he's being emotionally manipulative for personal gain, isn't it then likely that he would be exaggerating the situation?
A really prominent trait of canon Snape is that he doesn't like being pitied. He actually hates being seen as a victim. He would much rather be seen as a terrible person than as a hurt, vulnerable one. It's the reason he ends up calling Lily mudblood in the first place. It's why he'd sooner join the Death Eaters than reach out for help.
IDK — Just the fact that some antis apparently acknowledge Snape's canonically abusive childhood, but then spin it into something he consistently takes advantage of to manipulate others for sympathy and forgiveness to the point it comes off as deceptive, when that's actually pretty much the opposite of how he acts in canon... it makes my skin crawl.
Any one else still bitter that we did not get a scene where Zuko, Katara, and Toph met up in the Legend of Korea and just TALKED TO EACH OTHER? Cause I am....
Au where Severus accidentally walks in on his mother and Fleamont Potter in bed.
just would like to bring up again that billy hargrove was 100% correct when he said “my 13-year-old sister goes missing all day, and then i find her with you—at a stranger’s house—and you lie to me about it.”
also the amount of Billy hate I’ve seen the past few weeks is insane. It looks like we are back at S2. And this makes me very afraid of how people will treat Dacre at the con. Because some people just forget that Billy is a fictional character and Dacre is a real human being. If I hear about someone being an ass to him there I’m gonna punch someone.
New headcanon: As a way to make amends with Max for how he behaved at the Byers’, he would give her and the party rides to the arcade whenever needed 🥹
I'll never get over the fact the year book implies Billy used to drop off a bunch of the kids at the arcade
It's been a pleasure clowning with you guys the past 4 weeks. I have one more theory to post and then I'm done. It's nice to know that even if we don't see Billy again, there's a tag full of people to commiserate with. And that Billy will live on in mulleted splendor in fanfic and fanart. No matter what the antis or the Duffers say, we know the truth about Billy and about all of the folks like Billy who are doing their best to recover from childhoods full of abuse, rejection, and abandonment.
Keep your heads up, guys. I hope the Friday release gives you everything you're hoping for. But if it doesn't, the tag is here for you.
Stranger Things spoilers ahead but I need to talk about Jonathan Byers.
Jonathan, who took it upon himself to organize his baby brother’s funeral because his mother wasn’t doing it.
Jonathan, who dropped everything to *save* Will when he was presented with evidence that he wasn’t dead.
Jonathan, who could not physically bear to watch Will in pain even if it was necessary to free him from the mindflayer, and had to turn away so he didn’t have to see him suffer.
Jonathan, who never treated Will like he was annoying like Mike and Nancy or Lucas and Erica.
Jonathan, who truly *saw* how Will was acting around Mike and knew what it meant.
Jonathan, who admitted he had been distant and chose to be the one to reach across the distance and tell Will he would always love him no matter what.
Jonathan, who gave Will acceptance and reassurance without asking anything of him.
Jonathan, who realized in 1986 that his baby brother was queer and made sure he knew he was explicitly supported without outing him before he was ready.
Just. Jonathan Byers y’all.
I don’t care what any antis say, Eddie and Post-S3 Billy would’ve definitely been besties.
