that entire scene of billy being taken can literally be interpreted as a metaphorical rape scene. he's dragged downstairs by his ankles to an abandoned basement in the middle of nowhere while he's thrashing and screaming for help. the mindflayer holds him down and enters his mouth while he continues to struggle. when he's free, he runs away to his car and drives off to the nearest phone booth because he's terrified that it's following him.
he doesn't know what to tell the 911 operator, would they believe him? it all seemed very unrealistic. he has flashbacks and starts dissociating, replaying the scene in his mind, specifically the scene when it enters his mouth. and then he's faced with himself. the other billy represents the side of him that feeds his degrading emotions.
this is literally a metaphorical rape scene i don't know what to tell y'all. the way will's kidnapping can also be interpreted as a child predator holding a child hostage and violating him. joyce's initial thoughts must've been that her son was kidnapped by a sick person. and the fact that they found will unconscious with something forced in his mouth?? metaphorical assault scene.
and billy's shower scene? the black veins represent the phantom touches and pain left behind by his rapist. he's showering because he wants it off him but it's not going away. he's starting to dissociate and the memories are hitting him full force again.
do the duffers realize this connection? the show would be outstanding if they acknowledged the general theme of vecna/the MF representing an abuser/rapist who specifically targets troubled children because they're easier to manipulate.
Now that I finished these... I will watch vol 2 (>_<)
I will do more later... You can tell how much I'm obsessed with Will and Mike LMAO
He thinks Will is cute 🥹
Dustin, Lucas, Steve, Max, and Robin all use the word “hot” to describe people that they’re attracted to in S3.
For Dustin, Lucas, and Steve, it’s in reference to Phoebe Cates, who Dustin compares Suzie to.
Dustin: “Think Phoebe Cates, only hotter.”
Lucas: “She’s a genius and she’s hotter than Phoebe Cates? No girl is that perfect!”
Steve: “No no. No way. Hotter than Phoebe Cates? No.”
It’s implied that they all view Phoebe Cates as the pinnacle of hotness - a common opinion at the time as a result of her role in Fast Times.
Similarly, Max uses the word hot to describe Ralph Macchio. Another actor that was popular at the time as a result of his looks.
Max: “Yeah he’s the Karate Kid. […] He’s so hot right?”
Finally, Robin uses the word hot in reference to girls when she tries to convince Keith to give Steve a job at Family Video. She bribes him by talking about all the ladies he’ll bring in.
Robin: “And these ladies… These ladies are hot. They’re so very hot.”
This is all to say that most teenagers are attracted to people that they consider “hot.”
When Mike finds out about Suzie though, he doesn’t ask Dustin if she’s hot. Mike asks…
“Is she cute?”
Mike is the only one to use this word. He’s the only one who is primarily concerned with cuteness rather than hotness, and his word choice is so telling. Unlike many teenagers, Mike is drawn to cute things still.
Things like the little teddy bear with the bow tie at the mall…
…and, ya know, his best friend, who happens to be strategically placed right behind him throughout the entire shot…
… in bright red shorts…
… as if he’s Mike’s version of a certain someone.
I can't remember who made the post (whoever it was, let me know), but I'm thinking about how someone said El and Will both represent the different sides of fight or flight trauma responses. El is fight. Will is flight (or I guess freeze/flight).
El was taught to use violence growing up. Which is why her first instinct when looking danger in the eye or when she's upset about something is to typically get violent. I mean, we saw it when she threw Lucas off of Mike, when she melted those lab people's brains, when she threw those waffles and that book at Hopper and hit him with the couch, when she threw Max off her skateboard, and etc.
These are the two most recent examples.
El represents the "fight" aspect of fight of flight.
Will on the other hand has been shown time and time again to flee or freeze when faced with dangerous or upsetting situations. (And the two times he did stand his ground and "fight", he got kidnapped and possessed...so it makes sense for him to want to not fight anymore and to run). I mean we saw it when he ran away from the "Demogorgon" (before trying to fight and getting caught), he spent all of his time in the Upside Down running and hiding, he ran away from the Mind Flayer MANY times (obviously before following Bob's advice and getting possessed), and etc.
And two of his most recent examples is when El was getting bullied. He completely locked up.
Will represents the "flight/freeze" aspect of fight or flight.
I don't know...I just think it's interesting that Willel are on different sides of the spectrum when it comes to trauma responses and how they deal with dangerous or upsetting situations.
will having a sense of style but not exactly much choice because he grew up poor, then being spoiled by his s/o as an adult... getting to indulge in pretty things, feeling so attractive and loved and accepted... i cry
🗣 📢 TURN IT UP also his s/o has a name n it's mike thank u very much....... 🙄
dad!mike headcanons —
being as tall as he is means that his kids always, always, alwayssss wanted him to carry them and sit them on his shoulders. made them feel real tall. he very quickly mastered the art of doing things one-handed, too.
mike used to wear his hair down a majority of the time and thought it was cute when his kid played with his hair until they gripped onto a clump of it once and YANKED that shit out with no goddamn warning using all of their herculean little kid strength. he started wearing it in a ponytail or bun after that. 😭
will of course kept that clump of hair and put it in one of their photo albums next to the clump from their kid's first haircut. massaged mike's scalp and gave him plenty of kisses to make up for it later, too.
mike has a day job and a part time job as a tax collector, which is to say you already know he's reaching that hand back while driving to collect his rightful dad tax aka a handful of whatever treat his munchkins are eating in the backseat. when they get older, they wise up and start whining about how it's unfair, given that his hands are so big, so maybe they should be using will's hand instead. will sides with his husband, unfortunately for them.
he loves when he and his kid are twinning it up, wearing matching fits. he also passes on some t-shirts he doesn't like so much on to them so they can wear them as pjs. just makes him happy. :)
speaking of clothes, mike isn't so particular about his own style, but he's definitely more hands-on with his kids. they may fuck his hair all the way up the way that they play with it, but he'll be damned if he lets them walk out the door looking like little hooligans. they can come home from school looking crazy, but they're at least going to start the day with their hair combed and done in whatever style they prefer.
when mike reads to them at night, he makes sure to do all sorts of different voices for the characters and really gives it his all, putting on a five-star show.
