Webb Telescope Captures Images Of Quasar Host Galaxies In Early Universe. Read Full Article Here

June 28, 2023 - In a groundbreaking discovery, scientists utilizing the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have successfully captured images of starlight from two massive galaxies hosting actively growing black holes, known as quasars. These images reveal the earliest epoch to date in which light from stars has been detected around a quasar, less than a billion years after the Big Bang. The findings shed light on the formation of black holes and their relationship with host galaxies in the early universe.

The Study and Findings:

Led by researchers from the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe and the Peking University Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics, the study utilized a combination of ground-based observations from the Subaru Telescope and space-based observations from the JWST. The team focused on two quasars, HSC J2236+0032 and HSC J2255+0251, which were discovered through Subaru Telescope's deep survey program. These quasars, located when the universe was around 860 million years old, provided an opportunity to study the properties of their host galaxies. Read full article here.

I should probably announce this here, but I have started streaming! You can find me live over on my youtube on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at 12 pm PST. Mostly I am focused on my Hardcore Minecraft series, but I am considering streaming Assassin's Creed, as that is also a series of games I have been meaning to play.

Genuinely so much of the issues we are seeing as a country is due to a basic lack of education. These people wouldnt be able to classify what a steroid is if it hit them in the face. And I dont know what theor testosterone levels are or wether they would be disqualified. All I know is that my friend who is going through menopause is taking a testosterone supplement to help. Doesnt make her less of a woman.

Ya know, this calls for one of my favorite memes so far:

Ah, well shit. This is gonna hit me in the face aint it?

okay i just read an INCREDIBLE apocalyptic/supernatural/religious horror novel with a trans gay male protagonist and incredible portrayals of religious trauma, body horror, and reclamation of your identity being seen as like, screwed up and disgusting. i know this isn’t the kind of thing you usually post about but it’s such a good damn book i had to recommend it. it’s called Hell Followed With Us by andrew joseph white. it made me sob at so many parts and it depicts found family queerness so well and has a canon autistic character and AUUUUHHHHHH it’s so good. if anyone wants to read it there’s a copy up on OceanOfPdf !!

That sounds awesome!!!

Here's the description from the author's website:

Sixteen-year-old trans boy Benji is on the run from the cult that raised him—the fundamentalist sect that unleashed Armageddon and decimated the world’s population. Desperately, he searches for a place where the cult can’t get their hands on him, or more importantly, on the bioweapon they infected him with. But when cornered by monsters born from the destruction, Benji is rescued by a group of teens from the local Acheson LGBTQ+ Center, affectionately known as the ALC. The ALC’s leader, Nick, is gorgeous, autistic, and a deadly shot, and he knows Benji’s darkest secret: the cult’s bioweapon is mutating him into a monster deadly enough to wipe humanity from the earth once and for all. Still, Nick offers Benji shelter among his ragtag group of queer teens, as long as Benji can control the monster and use its power to defend the ALC. Eager to belong, Benji accepts Nick’s terms…until he discovers the ALC’s mysterious leader has a hidden agenda, and more than a few secrets of his own.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. And is probably a big part of why I love their music.

thinking about Lovejoy describing themselves in three words as 'Aromantic British Noises'

thinking about Lovejoy describing themselves in three words as 'Aromantic British Noises'

thinking about how the idea of aromanticism isn't nearly as widespread as it is on Tumblr/various other corners of the internet

thinking about how most people would probably assume the use of Aromantic as a descriptor would imply a lack of any kind of love or romance or close interpersonal relationships in their music which is INHERENTLY NOT TRUE

thinking about Lovejoy choosing Aromantic specifically, confident enough in understanding the actual concept/culture of aromanticism to describe their entire band

thinking about the potential for there to be someone(s) in Lovejoy who is either on the Aromantic spectrum or has considered it as a possibility and has researched it to understand it (and maybe themselves) better

thinking about hard about Lovejoys songs and realising that despite a few having vaguely romantic or implied romantic connotations, you could absolutely do an aro-spec reading of their whole discography

thinking about Lovejoy becoming part of Aro Culture in my heart

thinking about being aro-spec myself, and how id consider the term 'lovejoy' to still very much be my vibe despite that.

thinking about self described Aromantic British Noises, Lovejoy.

thinking about Lovejoy.

Seriously. Recording things places to preserve them is the basis of historical preservation. Companies have no inherent interest in preserving these things. It gains them no money with how copyright laws are written in most places.

Let people have archives, let people actually have the things they own. Im so done with late stage capitalism and treating companies like authority figures so we can have basic human decency.

Saving for later

Halloween is the perfect time to read the incredible works of Emily Carroll, my absolute favorite horror cartoonist and storyteller. You can read many of her works free on her website!

I especially love His Face All Red, The Groom, The Hole the Fox Did Make, and Out of Skin.

Halloween Is The Perfect Time To Read The Incredible Works Of Emily Carroll, My Absolute Favorite Horror

I cannot over-recommend Carroll’s short story collection Through the Woods, which is one of the best works of fiction (horror or otherwise) I’ve ever read. If you can, get a copy from your local library or bookstore!

Got to go, it’s Halloween and I’m spending my evening sitting in the dark, drinking hot chocolate, re-reading these spooky comics while the wind rattles at the windows.
