Attack the Block (2011) dir. Joe Cornish
so long as we're back to social justice 101 on this stupid website, u need to be aware of the feedback loop that emerges from disproportionate scrutiny: any social group that is placed under extra scrutiny, regardless of the actual prevalence of any particular behaviour, will appear to engage in that behaviour more often.
you see this most blatantly with racialised groups (more cops in black neighbourhoods = more arrests in black neighbourhoods = "omg look at all the crime in these neighbourhoods!" = more cops in black neighbourhoods etc). even if the rate of crime is the same (putting to one side the criminalisation of poverty which is also an important related factor), one group gets away with it way more often and a new generation of racists is indoctrinated with the crime statistics which "prove" that some groups are simply more criminal in nature. we see a similar phenomenon online with particular groups (trans women being a huge example) being subjected to mass stalking, their every move documented by weirdos and broadcast as representative of the group as a whole.
tl;dr - overscrutinising groups based on existing bigotries creates a recurring feedback loop, reproducing those bigotries across generations and nominally justifying them. this is bad, and you need to remember that you are not immune to it.
its always "believe women", unless they're trans or black or fat or disabled or mentally ill or
what im saying is this. and yeah, if every or most of the people in this situation were also masking, that would be perfect - but it only takes a few people's decisions (improving ventilation in an area) to increase the protection of every single person who will ever be in that space. when somebody masks, they're protecting themselves, and if they're sick or contagious, they're protecting the people around them - but only when they're in that space! no matter what we do, short of highly enforced mask mandates (very, very difficult to both put into action and enforce), people are not going to mask everywhere.
and we can say they should. and we can educate people on why they should. and we will! but it is not going to make everyone mask! our energy would all collectively be better used, imo, into educating on the insane improvements in respiratory spread when you improve air circulation. that means a space can become more accessible if only half of people are masking, or even less. and it will make you, dear reader who masks, even MORE protected against illness in ALL spaces.
'you wouldn't pirate a-' i would steal anything from any company. anything in the world. i dont even want it i just hate you
I would normally never do this and I normally avoid all political posting, but the FDA has had to stop a lot of food testing due to staff cuts currently planned at least until September 30th.
This is very dangerous for certain foods and if you live in the United States, I highly recommend that you keep track of this list: https://www.fda.gov/food/food-safety-modernization-act-fsma/food-traceability-list
That is a (not fully comprehensive but useful) list of the high-risk foods for contamination and sickness that could result in serious harm or death. The broad strokes are cheeses, but especially soft cheeses, raw/fresh vegetables, pre-sliced fruit packages, ready to eat salads, chicken eggs, milk (bird flu), anything fermented like melons, and pet food, among others.
This is likely not a comprehensive list, so be sure to look things up yourself as well.
If you buy vegetables and plan to eat them, it is best to cook them to a safe temperature and wash their outsides well with water and light scrubbing instead of eating them raw. Treat it like chicken in that regard.
Make sure that the individual foods that you buy often are safe to eat or at risk, and adjust accordingly. This is a fundamental necessity that everyone here will need to follow. Testing is reduced or gone, and reporting on outbreaks will also likely be reduced or banned outright as well.
All you can do is stay safe, use your masks in public again, and make sure that you are clean as well as your food.
Attached below are more tips for vegetables, meat safety should be the same, just be more vigilant.
I love you all and don't want any of you hurt. Let's all support each other, thank you.
Not that it's anything new, but the "voluntary" in "voluntary migration" really drives home the utter shamelessness of the occupation.
They destroy Gazan homes, hospitals, schools, roads, universities, infrastructure, cut off their water and electricity, then when they have no choice but to escape the hell that was created for them, claim they "voluntarily" chose to leave their land behind and have no right to return.
When Nakba deniers claim that Palestinians "chose" to leave their land, remember this.
can someone please be proud of me like fuck I’m trying
understanding that there a lot of tme people out there who are totally fine with "trans women are women" as long as its some nebulous meaningless statement that simply implies you respect trans womens internal sense of self
but as soon as you say that trans women fundamentally ARE women, live as women, exist in community as women, and simply arent cisgender... ohh then we've got a problem! thats suspicious and possible terfy
