GUESS it is also my duty to add some content to the Astor fandom. Geee its sooo boring around hereš /s
Heres a fanart i did not so long ago enjoy.
some people are so chronically online they cannot separate fiction vs reality. this is not about anything specific however it is a lot of issues mixed together.
i know a lot of people hear the word āchronically onlineā and tune out but hear me out. a lot of teenagers and preteens nowadays and even some millennials have been so absorbed in this world of the internet where you constantly feel like you have to fight for things that you feel is right that you start to go tunnel vision and ignore genuine, actual issues.
i will see people actively throw whole ass tantrums over fictional. content. whether it is a show, a movie, a game, or fan content.
people will try to ācancelā or even threaten a voice actor who plays as a villain, and this has happened!!! so many times!!!!
if a show includes a homophobic/transphobic/racist character, that does not make the show morally bad. if those bad actions are condemned in the show, that is the creators saying āhey this thing is bad and is frowned uponā. that does not give you or anyone the right to go after the creators or actors of the show.
ābut how could they be okay with playing that character?ā because they can separate fiction. from reality. they know they themselves do not agree with those morals, they are simply playing a character.
if you focus so much time and energy into putting people down over something fictional you are going to ignore what actual issues are occurring in the world.
i have seen an artist on twitter have the police called on them because One Person didnt like something they drew and also hated them for drawing gore. drawing gore harms absolutely no one, i promise. and if you personally believe it does, guess what? you can instead choose to give a shit about actual people who non-consensually hurt real life people. wow, imagine that. contribute to real world politics and making changes, stop cancelling people on twitter bc they drew something you didnt like. stop hating on people who like a media you donāt like.
āif you like x you are a bad personā me liking a show about gay hell demons does not make me a bad person. me liking a show, movie, etc with villains who are terrible people does not make me a bad person. imagine that?
you do not know what people do outside of the internet. you donāt know what charities they may donate to, you donāt know what race, gender, or sexuality they are (unless they say it online). you donāt know what causes they fight for. you donāt. know. and doing One thing that you donāt like does not doom them for all eternity. i guarantee you no one outside the internet gives a shit about someone liking gay porn of problematic characters. or a show with morally questionable people. or a fanfiction author who writes guro smut.
please stop ignoring real world issues in favor of fictional shit. adopt the classic saying āif you donāt like, scroll.ā
remember, censoring things you donāt like is exactly what nazis did! donāt be that way, yeah?
whoever decided to turn daisy bell into a spooky dookie creepypasta song is fucking evil. that computer was brave enough to sing us a delightful little song and you do THIS to him? thats hatsune mikus grandpa dude. fuck you
Miss Zelda can be forgetful sometimes
Also I wanna say: analysing media only or mainly through the lens of whether "x character" is problematic is the stupidest fucking way to analyse media. Maybe characters aren't made to be a paragon of "purity" (I'm using that word on purpose. side eye.), maybe they aren't meant for you to fantasise about being besties with them in real fucking life, maybe they aren't meant to be your role model. Maybe they are there to explore themes about life and being human; the messy, fucked up, confusing and weird parts of it? Maybe they are there to express deep emotions and create catharsis, make us question things, or make us feel? Maybe it doesn't fucking matter if you'd hate them if "they were real" because of their fictional actions because, hey, they are not real and most people know the difference.
People are allowed to love characters that make the weird, confusing, fucked up parts of themselves feel seen, because it's fucking art and that's what art is for. It's not there to tell you how to behave. Not everything is a cartoon for toddlers.
