#married (1/?)
Just watched this movie a second time and yes. I am still 100%, utterly of the opinion that this is a masterpiece of rare intelligence, invention, creativity and wit. The actors are amazing and Blanchett's performance is a joy to watch, she's so so phenomenal.
I've read some pretty awesome analyses and explanations of the movie by now and will say more on that matter soon, but I find it so puzzling that some people immediately dismiss this gem as tedious and problematic and hard to get into ? I also understand why some people prefer not to watch a movie about a character as potentially unlikeable, power-hungry and selfish as Lydia Tár, but at the same time, I just - well, I personally do not think that movies that have this clear "good guys/bad guys"-seperation are typically the most stimulating and mesmerizing ones. I found the character of Lydia Tár complex and difficult and yeah, she's definitely abusing her power and status and she probably even had a large share in literally destroying young conductor Krista Taylor (first, her career, then, the woman herself...), but I also like the fact that this movie shows that people like Tár, as disgusting and horrifying as they are, are not merely monsters, but have, for example, a soft spot for someone (in Tár's case this is her daughter Petra), strong likes and dislikes, that they even sometimes do good deeds . Life would be so easy if it were all black and white, but it's not and most people have better and worse traits. Most people have done really, really bad, fucked-up shit, but have also done some really admirable and kind stuff, so... that's what basically makes us human and I think it makes exploring characters like Lydia so interesting to me - and no, I do not condone her actions and her reasoning, but some people seem to mistake greatly enjoying and being greatly fascinated/moved by a movie with automatically agreeing to the things its protagonist does and says?!
I could watch this movie many more times. I will probably even watch it again at some point in the nearer future! Yes, it's not an "easy to get into" movie. It does not answer every of the viewer's question. It also does not state that it has a definite, clear stance on anything; it merely raises questions and it's also extremely questionable (to me) whether it really is that much of a movie about Me Too, Cancel Culture, Power Dynamics ect. Yeah, these issues appear throughout the movie and are a part of it, but I just don't think that is what it's essentially about.
And I love these kind of movies, the kind that need time to be properly processed, the kind dthat spark conversation and make me want to go down a rabbit hole of information and research and exchange; the kind that are challenging and unruly and maybe not what they seem or so much more than that...
Phenomenal stuff. Beautifully made. Original, intelligent. Then when things went mad they went really mad. Blanchett extraordinary, as we know. Great support, great music, great build up, great ending. All films should be made with this level of intelligence, bravery, confidence. Amazing.
Title of Fic: "Seasick"
Author: Sybilia
Fandom/Pairing: "Rizzoli & Isles", Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli ("Rizzles")
TW: /
Rating: M
Synopsis: Angela Rizzoli wins a 7-day-vacation on a cruise across the Caribbean and wants her daughter, detective Jane Rizzoli, to come with her. But shortly before the ship's departure, Angela suddenly declares that she is feeling unwell and can't come on the cruise. This leaves Jane with her best friend, brilliant and nerdy Medical Examiner Maura Isles, as the "plus-one".
But when her and Maura enter the ship, Jane quickly comes to the conclusion that something on the "Olivia" smells - well, fishy? (sorry for the double entendre, lol). Not only are there solely women on the ship - the women all seem to be very interested in the same sex. Jane is mortified, especially when Maura points out that as the winner of the cruise drive, Jane is legally obligated to stick to the release she signed, which inlcudes leading various group activitites, posing for pictures and the like.
Jane would rather just up and leave but lets herself be convinced into staying (does she even have a choice, for real?). So, our two favorite Bostonians find themselves in an extremely gay environment, surrounded by hundreds of lesbians, and have to pretend being a couple as soon as they leave their cabin on the ship to participate in the various activitites and competitions going on.
But Jane would not be Jane without her competitive streak and she soon finds herself wanting to be the "Queen of all Lesbians", as the winner of the games is called. This leads to some pretty hilarious events like her participating in a "Lick clean an ice-cream bowl"-contest or a "penetrate donuts with a dildo on a harness strapped to your waist"-competition.
It does not only sound funny and weird as heck, it is! The wonderful thing about this fic is that there are multiple wonderful things, to be honest. The plot is so clever and original that you don't want Rizzles to leave that lesbian cruise ship ever again. But then we also have the beautiful, very accurate depiction of Maura and Jane who are written in character so very well by this crazily talented writer. The descriptions, be it of the games or the ship or the tourist destinations, are done in great detail and serve to make this story even more outstanding. Aaand as the special cherry on top, we also get the authors's OCs and all of them are utterly PRICELESS! We have former Wimbledon Champion, the unapologetically gay and deliciously unhinged Millie-Joyce Ming, famous singer and surprisingly tame diva Beata Frankenmeier and "Big Carl" Carla Timmons, another police officer ready for a good time among fellow lesbians.
And in the middle of this spicily sapphic ship, we have Maura and Jane, both secretly already harboring more than just platonic feelings for one another... but will they finally be courageous enough to admit their blossoming love for each other and go from "fake girlfriends" to "real couple"?
I cannot stress this often enough: READ THIS MASTERPIECE!! It is so wholesome and brilliant and great fun and romantic and wild and creative and had me laugh out loud in public again and again because the humor is simply impeccable. Read it. You won't regret it.
Also, make sure to check out the writer's other two stories, "Constant Companion" and "Seasick"'s sequel, "Cherry Grove", they are equally awesome!!
oooh yeah
reblog and put in the tags non-canon ships that you genuinely think should be/should’ve been canon
Louder for the people in the back, plz
I think something that a lot of people fail to accept is that.....people need to be treated like human beings regardless of situation. "fat people are ok....if they're healthy" "addicts are okay....if they're successfully recovering" "homeless people are okay.....if they're trying hard enough/they're not addicts/they're not gross" . like none of these conditions take away somebody's humanity. but when you add these "ifs", you do make respecting someone else as a literal fucking person conditional. empathy or just any level of understanding is seen as something that has to be Earned in these situations . and it sounds so simple, even obvious, but then you think about it and it is just a really widespread line of thinking.
Okay, but season 1 episode 09 of Rizzoli & Isles?! The way Jane soothingly touches Maura's arm and how Maura reacts with this very specific look, this precious combination of surprise and wonder and tenderness for Jane?! The way they sit at home and Jane reassures Maura she doesn't have one single evil bone in her body and how they hold hands so intimately?! And then the lighter scene at the very end, when they join some plumbing business with Jane's father and brother behind the bar, how Maura reaches out her hand to touch Jane, and how Jane reciprocates that gesture and it just looks so very domestic and sweet and natural?! I am going FERAL I ship them so hard it blocks the Suez canal
i love you fanfics with rabid intimacy. i love you long and intricate passages about lovers who love with such intensity they want to make a home in the bones of their beloved. i love you insatiable need to get impossibly closer. i love you winter love, cold and intense and all consuming. i love you inherent divinity of lovers who love with such ferocity they want to be the blood pumping in their beloveds veins.
I watched this movie today and I can only agree with @lovemadethemdoit wholeheartedly! Yeah, the movie might come across as not "educated" or "sensitive" enough but it is meant for a bigger audience, for the general public where transphobia is sadly still a reaaally big thing, so it's kind of "picking people up where they are" and I think that's important. Personally, I also felt a lot of unease regarding the amount of deadnaming going on, but let's be honest, that is something countless trans people still have to face on a day-by-day basis and the movie IS addressing this issue in a pivotal moment, too (SPOILER ALERT: when Lilli goes missing and her father is searching for her in some kind of big furniture store and trying to call her out over the mic, he uses the deadname first - in the end realizing, that he has been calling "the wrong child", finally accepting his kid's identity somewhat more)
terf and bigots on twitter of course not getting that they are the target group for oskars kleid, not their children 🙄
Okay, but season 2 episode 2 of Rizzoli & Isles?! It's somehow so sweet and tender and desperately makes me want to write a fluffy Rizzles fic about them becoming parents together… I actually already have some ideas how this could go, now I just need days to be longer so I can write lol… In the meantime, I'll just continue to gush about them with the baby - I mean, Maura is defo looking at Jane and smiling to herself as if she's wondering what it would be like to have kids together with her..ugh, imagine how cute that would be^-^
Side note: Love how Maura is so kind with Jane's mom Angela, like the way she immediately buys the painting Angela had created herself and that she even sets her up as a kangaroo carer for premature newborns… it makes Jane go so soft for her, Maura is simply the best wife she could ever hope for * awwws*
Really sticking to my first ever fanfic written be my, myself & I atm! I try to update about weekly as everything else is plain unrealistic for me currently; but it feels so good to be back into writing and to create this story for two of my fav fictional characters!
