Sometimes people call Bruce "hypocritical" when he is simply a parent that doesn't want his kids to do the same mistakes as him. You know, something every normal parent does.
Like, is he hypocritical when he wants them to finish college when he didn't, or is he just a parent that sacrificed his studies for a cause and wants his kids to enjoy university without the same pressure? Is he hypocritical when he doesn't want his kids to date dangerous people when he has quite the track record, or is he just a parent that wants to protect his kids from the same heartbreaks and dangers he went through? Is he hypocritical when he gets angry his kids got hurt protecting him when he would do the same for them, or is he just a parent and it is his role to protect his kids, and he sees the inverse has a failure from his part, as a child shouldn't protect their parent? Is he hypocritical when he gets annoyed that his kids don't take care of themselves and their injuries when he often doesn't take care of himself, or is he just a parent that wants his kids to be safe and in good health more than he wants himself safe and in good health? Is he hypocritical when he wants them to be less violent when he has been extremely violent in the past, or is he just a parent that knows the error of his ways and wants his kids to be better than him?
He wants his kids to be better than him, which means not making the same mistakes.
Peter has fangs, venom, a couple extra sets of eyes that can be hidden behind his bangs as long as they're closed, spinnerets, etc, but can still mostly pass as a human.
He falls into the DC universe and is almost immediately caught by Bad Guys(TM). They know about his powers and go through the process of preparing him to be sold to the highest bidder. The Bats catch wind of the auction and for whatever reason have to pretend to be buyers instead of taking down the operation.
Peter ends up getting bought by the Bats (mostly cuz he was the most dangerous meta on auction and couldn't let him get bought by one of the super villains in attendance) and does not get the memo that he's no longer in danger and has been saved. Well, they did attempt to tell him, but he didn't really believe them.
They set him up in one of their safe houses while they try to take down the trafficking organization.
It ends up being a big enough thing that they need to bring more people in to take the whole organization down.
Peter isn't forgotten while they're dealing with the traffickers, and he's very leery of their presence whenever they show up. He's tried attacking them a handful of times and the ensuing fight never ends in his favor. Slowly, he realizes that they aren't pulling some sort of long con and starts believing that maybe he's safe.
The Bats are slowly growing more and more fond of him as he opens up to them. By the time they've taken down the trafficking ring, he's basically part of the family.
He is approximately three apples tall
