I apologize for what I am going to say to you, but I have to. I am Ahmad allouh from Gaza, married with two children. We live in the shadow of war and destruction. I lost my brother, my home, and most of my relatives. We have nothing left. I ask you to help, even a little, so that we can survive and protect my children. Any amount, even a small amount, will save our lives.

Thinking about Damian who gets called 'a selfish prick without a heart or the emotional capacity to give even a sliver of a fuck' and he just hides how much that hurt him until eventually he comes up to Bruce or one of his brothers crying because is he really that heartless? is he really so selfish and cruel?
I can't be the only one who noticed a certain flavor of racist undertone when it comes to people comparing JonDami with TimKon and SuperBat.
Like, people writing that when it comes to either Tim or Bruce being kidnapped or in mortal danger, both Clark and Kon would suddenly become the scariest mf on the planet until they got them back.
However, when it comes to Damian, Jon would be telling the kidnapper to let him go because "Damian would get bored and stab them to death" or something?
Another example is when the Supers are describing their respective Bats.
Both Clark and Kon would lovingly describe Bruce or Tim as 'smart' or 'beautiful' or 'equivalent of a God' or 'the smartest detective on the planet' while Damian.... Has rabies. Okay.
It doesn't help that Clark and Kon would often be drawn to have darker skin tones, while Jon's skin tone is lighter than Damian's (a canon thing).
Maybe I'm being the friend that's too woke, but that's as if they're conveying how POC/people with darker skins can either be the one who longed for their white/lighter skin partner, else it's the lighter skin partner that's being 'very tolerant'.
Absolutely, and you’re not being "too woke"—you’re picking up on a real pattern that’s worth talking about.
There is a noticeable difference in how jondami is often written or perceived in comparison to ships like timkon or superbat, and that difference frequently carries subtle (or not-so-subtle) racial undertones. In fandom, especially with legacy characters, there’s a tendency to center whiteness—or proximity to it—as the default for softness, gentleness, and emotional complexity. So when you see stories where Tim is treated like a fragile genius angel and Kon is the unyielding force of nature willing to burn the world for him, it's not just about character traits—it’s about who fandom allows to be loved that way.
With jondami, there’s a clear shift. Damian, who is canonically Arab and Asian, often gets flattened into tropes: the feral child, the knife gremlin, the “rabid” one. That’s not just quirky characterization—that’s racial coding. Instead of getting the same emotional depth and admiration that Tim or Bruce get, Damian becomes a punchline or an object of Jon’s tolerance, not his adoration.
Meanwhile, Jon—drawn lighter than Damian—is often the “sweet” one, the one who brings light into Damian’s life. That’s not inherently bad, but it gets weird when the dynamics start implying that Jon’s patience and warmth are extraordinary because he’s putting up with a darker-skinned partner who’s wild and violent. That plays into a longstanding racist trope of the “civilized” white (or lighter-skinned) person taming the “savage” POC.
And when you combine that with how people don’t write Jon going feral over Damian in the same way Kon or Clark do over Tim/Bruce, it’s not just a writing choice—it’s part of a pattern. Fandom often doesn't extend the same romantic or emotional softness to POC characters, especially those with sharp edges like Damian. That reflects broader racial biases in media and fandom culture.
So no, you're not imagining it. You're just noticing the kind of bias that slips under the radar unless someone points it out—and you're doing exactly what fandom should do: look critically at how we portray characters and ask, why is this dynamic only happening when the character of color is involved?
I'd like to think after taking care of the batkids Bruce just naturally became more attentive towards the JL members without realizing it and it drives them crazy when it first started happening
For instance, Clark trying to find a pen under the table that he dropped and Bruce subconsciously covers the edge of the table with his hand. So when Clark bumps his head he was not expecting feeling soft hand cushioning the blow and hearing Bruce go something along the lines of "be more careful" he's just like "???"
Another scenario is Diana and Bruce in his car (undercover mission or something idk) and when he breaks he instinctly had his hand Infront of Diana who's in the passenger seat( that thing mom's do) and just pretend nothing happens afterwards
Barry accidentally tripping while he's doing his usual thing and sees Bruce make a "I told you so" face but he can see he's slightly worried
I just think batman being a mother hen of sorts towards the JL would be silly
actually do you think when Damian gets in trouble at school and is called into the principal’s office he has to call for a family member to show up but Tim is the only one available and so he comes down to the school and walks into the office talking about how this needs to be quick because he has about three meetings he’s running late for-
the principal just kinda squints for a second and is like ‘aren’t you also one of my students?’
and Tim starts sweating. ‘what? no, i dropped out like six months ago’
‘i don’t remember you dropping out.’
‘well i less dropped out and more stopped showing up because i had to work-‘
‘that is no excuse, Timothy Jackson Drake.’
three hours later Bruce finally finishes whatever mission he was dealing with and has to go down to the school because now the principal wont let Tim leave without a guardian either. Bruce walks in with Tim’s emancipation papers to prove that he is indeed no longer a student and sees his two youngest sat in the corner, Damian shaking his head at Tim in pure disappointment while Tim hangs his head in humiliated shame and the principal talks about the consequences of missing six months worth of classes.
Damian tells the story over dinner and Dick and Jason both laugh so hard they start choking on their food
Damian wanted a magical weapon and instead got a magical animal guardian </3
gonna get ahead of the curve and acknowledge this before it gets pointed out yes I’m aware that I chose outs at different stages of their lives but a) I refuse to draw Jon aged up mostly bc they sucked out all his individuality and b) I have other plans for Damian’s traditional Robin suit that he wears in Supersons. The outfit I gave Damian here is to match the rough timeline I’ve drawn his family in. I’m waggling my finger, it was on purpose so I better not see any gripes.
I have this idea that each of the Batfam were given nicknames alongside their actual vigilante names by civilians that they do use every now and then. It's either a bird or a type of bat.
Bruce/Batman is obviously just called 'the Bat', probably it SHOULD'VE gone to a more specific species later, but yeah. By the time the Batlings showed up it kind of...... well, it just stuck and stayed.
Dick/Nightwing at first was only called Robin, but as he grew older, they named him 'the Owl' for his silence even in the air. And when some learned that there were evil owl masked assassins (Talons from the Court of Owls) the name became also a rebellion against them, they liked Nightwing better. He's a silent hunter, agile in fight, and idk Owl just fits him.
Jason/Red Hood literally died and came back, so they named him 'the Phoenix'. Also for his fiery nature and how he allegedly (to the civilians) died in an explosion, but came back from the black ground like a phoenix is said to rise from the ashes.
Cass/Black Bat was named 'the Noctule', after the Greater Noctule Bat, since it just fit and also Noctule bats are known to even hunt small birds and THEREFORE are in the same league as them, lining up with how Cass is just as, if not more, dangerous as her siblings.
I also toyed around with calling her Kite after the Black Kite, but she's Bat vibe more than Bird vibe, (even tho in my view all the Birds are still Batlike) so.... yeah.
For Steph/Spoiler, I decided on 'the Magpie'. Magpies are smart, mischievous, and have a habit of spoiling things for others.
I toyed around a bit with Wren, since that could also work for her, but magpies are corvids and corvids are more Gotham, so I chose Magpie.
Tim/Red Robin would get 'the Crow', both for his darker appearance as Robin and Red Robin than the previous two, the calls he lets out sometimes (In some of my AUs) and idk I just came up with it and it unsettlingly fit. So Tim is the Crow. He's smarter than expected and a bit smaller than normal but he can fight, so he is the Crow.
Duke/Signal would get 'the Sunbird'. I checked. There's a bird called the Sunbird. It's way too obvious as to why i call him that so yeah.
He's also called the Day Bat. Cause to me, he's in direct equilibrium to the Bat and Bird thing. All the others lean more towards one side or another, but he's directly 50/50 to me, that's his vibe. So Signal is 'Day Bat' and 'the Sunbird'.
Damian/Robin gets 'the Swift', for the fact that he's small but deadly and fast, and it just fits him idk. Swifts are like..... idk the vibe and all fits. Robin gets the Swift.
I love this panel so much
I love this entire short storyline
Just Damian is her entire world. She loves her little boy so much
