When Is An Appropriate Time For One To Pray To The Greek Gods? What If Someone Wants To Pray To Them

when is an appropriate time for one to pray to the Greek gods? What if someone wants to pray to Them daily? How should one go about becoming serious about their worship?

Generally speaking, I think it’s fine to pray at any time you feel called to, and it’s absolutely fine to pray every day.

Historically it was more common to make offerings to chthonic gods (gods of the dead or of the earth, such as Hades and Persephone among others) at night, so that might be something you find meaning in.

As for becoming serious, I’d suggest that practice is the best guide. The specifics of that practice would vary depending on different factors–for example, if you have a reconstructionist focus you would want to stick as closely as possible to the historical model, although certainly that isn’t the one and only way to honor the gods.

For me what helped was just establishing a regular practice and sticking with it..That might include a regular daily prayer or prayers, offerings made on a monthly basis (a number of the gods have specific days devoted to them, such as Artemis on the 6th or Poseidon on the 8th), a schedule of festivals/rituals you observe over the year (alone or with a group), meditation and visualization work, or whatever brings you closer to the gods. Find something that has meaning for you and keep at it, even when you may not be feeling the inspiration so strongly!

Meta/Document Fic: Daemons and settling

(I don’t know, guys. This thing just happened and demanded to be written. Excerpt from a college student’s sociology paper on daemon settlement.)

(Un)settled: An analysis of atypical patterns of daemon morphic fluidity

The ‘standard’ pattern of morphic fluidity in daemons is a bell curve[1], punctuated by the long tail of settled adulthood. The brief window of infant stability, transitioning to the rapid-fire shifts of childhood peaking around age ten, before slowly dropping to a stable set of preferred shapes and ending with settlement into a final adult form by the point of legal adulthood.

There is no public conception of non-traditional settlement except as a stigma, a moral failing. Non-traditional settlement is pathologized, treated as a sign of mental illness at best, moral depravity at worst. [2] This refusal to teach or consider other settlement patterns leaves many of the most vulnerable members of society out in the cold.

In this essay, I will discuss the most common alternate settlement patterns: delayed settlement, precocious settlement, two-stage settlement, long-phase polymorphic settlement, short-phase polymorphic settlement, traumatic resettlement, and traumatic unsettling.

Delayed and precocious settlement are both recognized medical conditions, akin to disorders related to puberty and development. [3] Two-stage settlement, polymorphic settlement, and trauma-based settlement patterns meanwhile fall under the umbrella of psychiatric disorders. [4]

Delayed settlement is defined medically as any daemon settlement after the age of sixteen, but is not considered ‘serious’ unless a daemon remains unsettled past the age of majority. The oldest recorded settling was Bazhenov Vyacheslav|Emiliya at 39 years old. [5]

Precocious settlement, on the opposite end of the spectrum, is daemon settlement before age thirteen.[6] Precocious settlement is most diagnosed in boys, despite studies [7] which suggest girls are three times as likely to settle precociously than boys are. The youngest recorded settlement was Faraji Shabani|Jahaira at five years old. [8]

Two-stage settlement, also known as ‘false settling’, is defined by the DSM-5 as ‘periods of involuntary quasi-settlement, where a daemon is morphically stable for a minimum of six months’.[9] The DSM-5 definition is not without controversy – proponents of neuro-morphic theory argue that ‘quasi-settlement,’ by definition, is only applicable to daemons who retain metamorphic ability. 10]

Long-phase and short-phase polymorphic settlement are marked by limited retention of metamorphic ability. Polymorphic daemons have a set range of forms – as few as two, or as many as twenty [11] have been recorded. In contrast to unsettled daemons, polymorphs often describe their shifts as involuntary or situation-based. (e.g. a polymorph is always a yorkshire terrier at home, but shifts to a husky while at work.) [12] The division between long and short phase polymorphs is largely artificial, useful more for describing the entire population than any one individual. A polymorph who shifts more than once a month is considered a short-phase, one who shifts less often is a long-phase. [13]

Traumatic resettlement and unsettlement were, until recently, treated only as symptoms of PTSD. [14] The DSM-5 reclassified them as trauma disorders in its own right, [15] which has drawn disapproval from multiple groups.[16]…

Low Tides

We're in a period of our lives right now where our daemon isn't talking as much, isn't present as much. She's still there, but further back. So we take a moment today to express that... these moments are okay and normal to have.

People who don't have a daemon aren't expected to be connected with their inner selves all of the time. People who aren't daemons aren't expected to be aware of themselves and project themselves into the world and provide and inner dialogue 100% of the time.

If you are like us right now, in a time when your daemon isn't as present as they used to. You're okay. You're fine.

Perhaps other interesting things are capturing your attention, like a new hobby or series. Perhaps you're more tired than usual. Perhaps a situation at work or school or in your family or in your country is taking all of your mental energy. Perhaps other aspects of your inner self require more attention right now. Perhaps you don't really have an explanation as to why. You're not a bad daemian. You're not a bad daemon. It's okay to feel sad or miss each other. We miss each other. Sometimes we yearn for a world like Lyra's where we could see, hear and hold each other without needing any brain power.

In case you want a few ideas of small things you can do in these times that don't require too much effort, here are a few things you can try:

Say good morning when you wake up, and good night before bed

Try to do projection for just a moment, like taking a picture, but don't strain to maintain it and don't aim for details

Have an image, small figurine or item that reminds you of your daemon and place it somewhere you will see it regularly

Say a little something to your daemon from time to time without expecting a response or a conversation to come out of it

Sending warm thoughts to any other daemians and daemons who are going through a similar time.

I'm thinking about His Dark Materials again. Specifically the societal quirks that Lyra's world has as a result of everyone having their soul manifested outside their body in the form of dæmons. It's one of the most fascinating examples of worldbuilding I've come across tbh

Some of my most favourite tidbits:

Dæmons are named by the dæmons of the child's parents

It's taboo to touch another person's dæmon, but this is learnt, not instinctual

Children often settle arguments through their dæmons, with one accepting the dominance of the other (eg. Pan hissing at Annie's fox daemon in the first book to get her to back down)

The fact that people can tell when someone lacks a daemon even though they can be hidden out of sight (like a mouse in your pocket)

To the inhabitants of Lyra's world, looking at someone without a dæmon is like looking at someone without a head

These extra pieces of lore just make the world seem so magical but believable at the same time

✨Daemonism Week: Day 2✨

✨Daemonism week: Day 2✨

How would you describe your daemon's personality?

Doesn't need to be super detailed or anything - but of course course it also can be if you want to! - but can just be a few core words, or maybe an image or song or something that describes your dae's personality.

*feel free to reply to any of these prompts on any day - doesn't have to be the day it's posted. And feel free to reply to some prompts but not others*

Some kiiiiinda unconventional things you can do for YULE!

Some Kiiiiinda Unconventional Things You Can Do For YULE!

1. Make paper snowflakes with intentions and hang them on your wall! For stuff like house protection, abundance, and good fortune!

2. Do a Yule themed reading with an uncommon divination method!

3. Do a bibliomancy reading with a book about winter, Christmas, Yule, or holidays!

4. Make a Yule log but with things corresponding to what you wish to achieve next season!

Example: Put something purple on the log for psychic power strength.

5. Drink tea flavors you've never tried before. And stir them with intention.

6. Make a Yule themed poster, art, zine.

7. Drink hot chocolate. Just that. I love hot chocolate.

the gods show you the version of themselves that you need most, your experiences won't be identical to other worshippers/devotees out there because you are different from others and that's okay. that just adds to how beautiful the connection to the theoi really is.
