Day #978 of David Tennant as a Fennec Fox 🦊 @neil-gaiman
I think now is a good time to remind people of some things
Don't Tag Your Hate. If you want to talk about how much you hate good omens or it's fans, don't use the main good omens tag. Make your own "anti good omens" tag. I don't want to be scrolling my fandom tag for comfort and see people hating on my fandom. That's like using the gay tag to press homophobia
Don't Start A Fight. If you disagree, move on. Scroll past. Take a deep breath if you need to. If you absolutely must bring up a point with them about their post, try saying something like, "I see your point, but..." or "I agree with some of this, but I just thought i should say..." instead of "grow up" or "kill yourself"
On a related note, If You Don't Have Anything Nice To Say, Don't Say Anything At All. Seriously. First thing you learn in kindergarten. If you don't understand that by now, you're probably not old enough for a Tumblr account.
On the other hand, If You Do Have Something Nice To Say, Say It! I'm sure someone will be grateful to hear you say, "This art made me smile this morning," or "This is lovely. Thanks for sharing."
Learn To Use The Block Button. Please. Just block people or filter tags that you don't want to see
Your Emotions Are Fine. Whatever they are. Guilty, angry, sad, whatever. It's all fine. Emotions are running high at the moment. Let them settle in before you do anything drastic though. Maybe don't burn your copy of good omens just yet. If you still want to in a few months, go for it. Just be safe around fire.
TL;DR
As we all find ways to deal with the complexity of art vs artist, here is a tool that I am using. It will not be right for everyone, but it has helped me. If it can help you too, I offer it to you.
Many artists of beloved works have bad, even horrible sides to them. The works would not be beloved if they didn't have value. These good things do not soften the bad things. The value of the art does not lessen or excuse the badness of the artists' actions. But vice versa. The horribleness of the artists' actions does not necessarily reduce the value that can be taken from the art. From loving friendships, to standing for what is right, to support of diversity, to following our own paths, to so many more positive messages in the adventures that are presented by these people who are embodying bad things; these badly behaving people do not necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant.
I understand if the bad things do spoil the good things for you, and that is totally valid. However, if that path doesn't seem right for you and you've been struggling, perhaps this quote will help you find some acceptance in the situation, as it has helped me.
Supportive posting only, please. If you have rage to vent, which is understandable, another location rather than a reply to this would be appreciated.
