My latest comic for The Nib was written by my friend Mike Thompson- it’s his first published comics work! 

The Nib has been a steady source of income and a huge support to me and many other indie cartoonists for years. They publish amazing work, but will be cut loose by their financial backer in July. You can read the official post about it from editor Matt Bors here.  They are still running their kickstarter-funded print magazine, but have to put digital publishing on hiatus until they figure out their next steps. If you’ve been thinking about supporting their membership program, now would be a good time. They have levels from $2 to $40 per month. I really don’t want this to be my last Nib piece!

So my bud is dating a trans girl

Most everyone knows that she’s trans and dating my friend and there’s quite a bit of controversy on the topic, but I never knew how my friend reacted to it. I got to see a glimpse of it today and it was beautiful.

We’re sitting in class, waiting for the bell to ring and I’m sitting by my friend. Some random girl is in front of him who we don’t really know that well. Most kids in the class were on their phones, including my friend and I. This girl turns around to my friend and asks,

“Your girlfriend is trans, right?” And I look up to see how my friend is gonna react. This kid doesn’t even look up from his phone, gives this girl no attention whatsoever but responds.

“Perhaps. Why?” He asks and I can tell he’s obviously not pleased.

This bitch has the audacity to then say, “I don’t know. It’s just kinda weird. I mean, she doesn’t have a real girl body.” And my friend doesn’t even hesitate with his response nor does he give this girl the satisfaction of a reaction. Instead, he says,

“Yeah, well neither do you with the amount of botox in your system, but that really doesn’t matter, does it?” And he looks up at her with this shit eating grin and she just looks at him all disgusted and offended before turning back around and my friend looks at me and we both burst in to laughter

Being trans is fun because there’s so many tiny milestones. I’ve never been to the beach as a boy before, I’ve never even owned a pair of swim trunks, and guess what we’re doing today!
