Kissing Remus wasn’t gentle. It was teeth and tongue, filled with desperation and hunger for something impossible. Sirius’ breath hitched when Remus bit into his bottom lip, almost drawing blood. “We-” he tried in the short moment they used to catch their breaths, “we shouldn’t-”.

Remus stopped. He kept Sirius in place, one hand on his neck, lips just a breath away from touching. “You're right,” he rasped, and when he looked up at Sirius, his pupils were dilated. “but I’ve always had a taste for the forbidden.”

a hc i have about james and sirius is that their bond is not perfect. in fact, it’s far from it. they do fight. a lot.

and that doesn’t mean they don’t love each other enough, or they aren’t close enough. no. it’s because they are so close, because they love each other deeply, that they break easily. they know each other’s weaknesses. they know how to rip and get under each other’s skin. they know how to tear and boy does that get ugly.

sirius coming from an abusive home makes him feel alien, like he can’t trust his skin. he feels he’ll end up deranged or worse, just like them. his moods are unstable and his anger is like a punch directed at anyone near him, and james is always near him.

james is human, and only has so much patience in the world. but more than that, james feels guilty. he blames himself, thinking he’s incapable of helping sirius, of helping him recognize the warm, kind hearted soul that he is. james takes the anger out on himself, but there’s still a twinge of bitterness directed at sirius—believing that sirius doesn’t trust james enough to listen to him.

i don’t want to see james and sirius in a perfect little circle hopping around each other like bunnies on a field. i want to see them bite. i want to see them come together and heal together despite the cracks in their friendship.

because though sirius and james are very similar people, they come from very different backgrounds. and surely that’s bound to crash, isn’t it?

james potter and sirius black are so in-sync that I imagine sirius coming out to james went something like this.

*sirius enters the dorm*

sirius: prongs, we need to talk.

james: *sits up* what's up.

sirius: I'm gay.

james: ...

sirius: ...

james: can I—

sirius: yes.

james: *gets up and hugs him* are you—

sirius: I'm fine.

james: does your mother—

sirius: no, but when she—

james: you know you're welcome—

sirius: I know.

james: ok, good ... wait, was it—

sirius: yes.

james: does he—

sirius: no.

james: you haven't—

sirius: not yet.

james: but you do plan—

sirius: yes.

james: well, go get him, tiger!

sirius: *leaves*

james: *smiles fondly to himself*

You should write the most niche, indulgent fiction that appeals to you specifically, because it will be much more artistically authentic and valuable than corporate slop that has been focus tested to death to appeal to the widest audience possible.

Write for yourself and you will always be making authentic art that has an uncompromised vision, and you will gain an audience that appreciates that.
