I see your 'Sky has asthma and that's why he can't run', and I raise you: Sky has Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia, and that's why he can't run.

Now, before you run away because you've never even heard of IST, hear me out. (If you don't know the condition, it's a dysautonomic heart condition vaguely similar to POTS, just without the low blood pressure.)

We all know Sky's lived above the clouds with minimal oxygen levels his entire life, as have most of his ancestors, so it wouldn't make sense for him to have shitty lungs, right? That's where IST comes in. See, it's not related in the slightest to physical health or upbringing, it's just a non-genetic thing that is due to your sinus being a bit funky. It's also not life threatening, so that takes away from Skyloft needing to have non-canonical advanced medical procedures. IST's main symptom is that it severely decreases your stamina by making your heart race and you become extremely out of breath, often meaning you have to stop and wait for a bit for your heart to calm down.

Sound familiar? Yeah, I thought so too.

However, and here's the real seller- unlike asthma, you can just power through and not die. It really, really sucks, but this ability is quite the gamebreaker for me when you think about all of the extreme physical tasks Sky has completed in game, not to mention his swordplay, that if he had exercise induced asthma would've very likely set off an attack. With IST tho, yes it would feel like you were dying, but it is absolutely be possible to just power through your symptoms and have no adverse effects except from your extreme discomfort and fatigue afterwards.

TLDR: Sky has Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia because it fits him so much better than asthma, as someone who has both asthma and IST. And no, this isn't just me projecting my hyper specific heart condition onto one of my favourite characters, what do you mean....

Four's DID

Based off my fic Familiarity Breeds Indifference on ao3!!

So I've thought a little too much about Four's DID within my AU and I just want to get my thoughts out there for anyone interested ^^

(Ik Jojo isn't writing them as a system and I completely support that decision; these are just my thoughts on them)

I've done a lot of research on DID for a different character so when I found out Four having DID was a popular headcannon I got rly excited. Before I talk about all of that I wanted to mention a few things about how I write them so nobody's confused:

Link/Four: plural they/them Red: he/they Blue: she/her Green: he/him Vio: they/them

The name Link/Four refers to the body or when all the colors collectively recognize something Individual names refer to the one fronting

I also gave them all roles within the system based of the manga and how I interpret their personalities.

Red: Emotional protector/trauma holder -- He is the most emotionally mature of the four and helps calm the other colors down if he needs to. He also holds most of the trauma from the abuse Link experienced when he was young (more on that later).

Blue: Physical protector -- She often fronts during fights alongside Green and will front when Link's in any physical danger, though sometimes if their being scolded/verbally berated she'll front to yell back.

Green: Front alter/leader -- Green fronts the most and all the other colors mask as him since his personality is the closest to Link's before the split. He also works alongside Vio to strategize and often co-fronts with Blue during fights.

Vio: Trauma holder/information retainer (couldn't find a good label) -- If Link needs to remember something they'll be the one to bring it back up. He also holds the trauma of Shadow's death since he was the closest to him.

So one thing I want to make abundantly clear is that the Four Sword didn't give them DID, they already had it but only became aware of it afterwards.

So Link's father is a knight, right? As any kid would, he copied his father's training and once he was old enough to hold a sword (I'd guess around 5 if you asked) he started training alongside him. Obviously his father simplified it a bunch and went easy on him (since he's a kid and all) but the other knights in training didn't appreciate training with a kid who wouldn't even be there without his father's position. So when Link's father was busy they would bully him and abuse him verbally and later physically. Once his father realized what was going on, he sent him to live with his grandfather at the forge. Link still trained but didn't go the castle often (hence why Zelda always snuck out to hang out with him).

A year or so before Minish Cap (age 8), Link started having amnesia gaps and mood swings (that they'd later recognize as passive influence). It wasn't prominent since Green was still the one in the front most times, but enough so that his grandfather got a bit worried.

It only got more common as years passed but during Four Swords (age 10) all the alters were split. The Four Swords Manga's events play out pretty much the same but when they put back the Four Sword, they don't fully merge. They didn't notice at first since the sword tried to make them all one, but it only blurred them and later they separated. The only difference is now they could hear each other.

They still experience amnesia gaps every now and again, but now they can communicate and explain what's going on.

They haven't told the Chain by the time of the fic, and don't have any plans to. They're typically looked at like they're crazy when they tell people or are just straight up told they're lying. Only Zelda and their grandfather are fully aware of their DID and believe them; their father is skeptical but supports them regardless.

I'm probably missing a few details but that's all the important stuff anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you have any headcannons related to them lmk!! If I like any of them enough I might end up adding it to my own. I've also seen Shadow be an alter they developed after Four Swords to cope and I think that's a rly cool idea but I have my own ideas about Shadow.
