we only ever talked about HALF of why these scenes were a big deal, like I just realized this today and my heart is going insane.
It’s not just that Crowley’s pissed at Gabriel for treating who he thinks as Aziraphale this way, the last thing he says to the people about to kill him is a benign and peaceful wish to see them again.
And like- this is Crowley trying to replicate Aziraphale to a T. So he legitimately just sees him as this endless well of compassion, someone who is always warm and accepting. It’s not just their friendship throughout the years, he remembers Aziraphale’s kindness on the Eastern Gate. When the angel had absolutely no reason to trust this random demon who just slithered up next to him. Crowley knows that he’s loved. Maybe not like that quite yet (although he’d be very wrong), but he knows that around his friend he’s always welcome and safe.
And Aziraphale?
Well he just thinks Crowley’s the coolest fucker alive, like he is laying it in THICK and enjoying every second. Listen to that charisma, look at that smirk. These are traits that are typically only appreciated in the context of how good it makes Crowley at tempting, a job he hates. But Aziraphale doesn’t see someone manipulative or regard this persona as signs of his “demonic nature”, he just sees Crowley. Someone charming, fun loving, and cute.
This is when we get to know precisely why they love each other, what exactly they see in the other.

Virgil: Can't I just smile because I feel like it?

I'm still in awe that not even a decade ago (2014, a year before same-sex marriage was legalized in the US), queer representation in children's animation was at the point where The Legend of Korra ended with Korra and Asami holding hands in the very last seconds and the creator having to come onto tumblr to plead with us all to understand that these two characters are canonically queer, the crew just couldn't show anything more (and were heavily implied to face restrictions) and now, in April 2023, The Owl House ended with multiple episodes highlighting how the main character is openly bi, her love interest is a lesbian with whom multiple on-screen kisses were shared, her mother proudly wears a rainbow pin and has read multiple books on sexuality and gender, her mentor is openly bi, the mentor's love interest is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, the mentor's adopted son has a genderqueer 'dad', the mentor's sister is confirmed to be aro/ace, the main character's best friend has two dads who share an on-screen kiss, the main character's pseudo-sister blushes around a nonbinary teenager who also uses they/them pronouns, minor characters blush and react to others in ways that suggest that they are also queer, there are different flags everywhere, and the child-god of the cosmos who comes to visit them all from time to time uses he/they pronouns. That's on top of the Afro-Latina representation, the neurodivergence and disability representation, and so much more. Let's see how far we've come, indeed!

HOGWARTS SCHEDULE MASTERPOST because I haven’t done one of these yet (and because nerinelunacyran asked for one)!
First row is pretty explanatory (Years 1 and 2, look at the captions.) Third year on each take up a row, because they need two schedules to deal with the electives. The only way for the electives to make sense is for ‘elective’ to just be a slot in their timetable, and because each house shares a timeslot with another house, and both have two options, during every timeslot there are four elective options (so Monday period 3 of year 4, both Gryffindors and Slytherins can choose between Care of Magical Creatures, Arithmancy, Divination, or Ancient Runes). This way, a student from any house can take any combination of two electives. It’s complicated, but it works. Hermione Granger is special and kind of fucked up.
This fits in with canon as much as I was able to make it fit with canon; she did not give this a second of thought, and it’s painfully obvious if you actually look into it. Fifth year Gryffindors have a class that starts halfway through second period, for crying out loud that’s what periods are for. So there’s some artistic license that I’ve had to take, and of course filling in all the blanks was entirely just myself. I tried to keep the fictional students in mind and not give them awful schedules, too – I have spreadsheets for each house for each year, as well, to see what the kids would groan about in September. I gave the first-years four periods instead of five, because 3:30 is explicitly stated for their flying lessons, and during one Oliver Wood is still in class.
As far as how the teachers’ schedules work out or how Years 6 and 7 work or how this makes any sense at all: it really doesn’t, but I’m working with what I’ve got :P
