i really love every interaction between izaya and mikado, but my favorite one is this conversation

vol 11, ch 6

the way izaya kinda sees himself in mikado and understands his words in his own way, the way mikado is trying to stay with those who are important to him and keep his normality and, at the same time, be on the abnormal side

the way izaya is jealous because he couldn't do the same and had to suppress his human side in favor of loving everyone and becoming invulnerable (at least he tries to make himself and others think that he is)

and the way mikado subconsciously knows how to talk to izaya, the way he doesn't fall for izaya's provocations, just agreeing with him and looking at everything from his own unique point of view

i love how mikado can turn everything izaya says in his favor

honestly i see so many izaya/mikado parallels, i want to talk about each and every of them

drrr durarara i've always liked making comparisons between Mikado and Izaya and the two groups of trios masaomi and Shizuo (grudges and anger issues) anri and Shinra (not because glasses but because they both greatly impact Mikado and Izaya in their lives) (to the point of having a pretty twisted protectiveness over them) izaya still taking vengence out on Nakura mikado twisting the dollars so as to create the perfect scenario where anri (and masaomi) can have the “right scenario” to finally reveal their secrets in full though you could also say Masaomi and Shinra could be good comparisons because they were the original childhood friebds and Anri and Shizuo can easily compare because of their insecurities and lack of willingness to love the comparisons aren't clean cut but i like them that way
