Curate, connect, and discover
This might be a weird thing to say after we didn't get the results we were hoping for, but as someone who's been closely following lance i'm feeling really proud after this race. First, his amazing start! To be honest I wasn't too miffed when he quailed 12th bc i know what he can do. It was really a shame and such bad luck that he was involved in an incident that wasn't his fault.
Secondly, he had the longest stint on the hards (30 laps!!) and therefore had to really manage his tyres throughout the second half of the race. If you've read my driving analysis, you know damn well that's something he really struggled with in the past.
To lose 8 places, then gain 10; is really amazing.
Also to note: - Pitstops were looking really good (maybe cause AM hired a new project designer responsible for pitstop management etc.)
All in all, both drivers are looking really sharp and I expect AM to get better and capitalize on that (this is a threat).
Lance's post quali interview, confirming it was traffic that screwed him in q2
P12 lance :( let's hope they don't fuck the strategy tomorrow
being a max verstappen fan is so hard but so fun. like people hateeee him for winning and he just smiles and giggles through it. he's such a cocky and stupid bastard, i love him.
also yesss carlos, go bestie. show them what they're losing next season. ugh i love ferrari but i hate them. also super sad for my charlie boy. we could have had a lestappen podium but it is what it is. i believe he will do better further in the season, when they hopefully fix the car. but it's impressive nonetheless how he put that car in p4 with the difficulties he faced.
god i'm so glad formula one is back. i have something new to look forward to every weekend.
ALSO MAX VERSTAPPEN YOU SIMP.
he don't give a fuck unless it's a man whose name starts with c and ends with harles leclerc. like get up max. but i would be a simp if it was someone like charles too. lestappen girlies keep winning (me).
The F1 Kids broadcast returns in 2024 for the Bahrain, Monaco, British, Dutch, Singapore, Brazil, and Abu Dhabi GPs! People have been talking about it, mainly as a joke, but it's genuinely a fun watch.
The main difference is different commentators (depending on where/how you watch it) and more colourful, fun graphics (of the drivers, fun facts, team radios, etc etc). There's also simplified explanations which might seem like basic knowledge, but do remember it's made for kids.
It broadcasts via:
Supersport (Africa)
BeIN Sports (Asia, Middle East & North Africa, Turkey)
Foxtel/Kayo/Fox sports (Australia)
Fox sports (Mexico)
Bell Media (Canada)
Viaplay (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, Iceland)
ANT1+ (Greece)
ESPN (Latin America, the Caribbean, USA)
Sky Sports (UK)
K+ (Vietnam)
Of course, it's sad that Carlos is possibly out of a seat for 2025 because his contract wasn't renewed, but he wasn't dropped out of nowhere. Ferrari does not owe him a seat. His contract was expiring, and they made the choice to give his seat to Lewis Hamilton. It happens and, although unexpected, is not new. What was Ferrari supposed to do, turn down the chance to have a 7 time world champion as their driver? Replace Charles Leclerc? (Not his biggest fan, but the man lives and breathes Ferrari, they aren't going to get rid of him anytime soon)
I've also seen a bunch of videos circulating where people are mad at Ferrari for not congratulating him after Bahrain? It'd be sad if it was true, but people who were there have mentioned how they saw ferrari members in the crowd. They were just behind the red bull team and scattered about. The TV cameras didn't catch them due to the angle. There have been photos from attendees. Also, they were fully there to celebrate at the actual podium.
Fred Vasseur has also been saying things like "[in the race] he was very strong, very solid...I am more than happy with the job that he did." I'm aware it could just be PR but no team is going to be unhappy that their driver is doing well no matter who they favor or if the driver happens to be the one that's leaving. Carlos himself has said "[he] will give [his] absolute best for the Team" in the 2024 season, and has absolutely done so at Bahrain.
I understand that people aren't happy Ferrari decided to replace him, but it's not as big or as dramatic of a situation as it looks to be. Carlos is a good driver who will probably find a team for 2025, and Ferrari isn't actively praying on his downfall because that wouldn't really make any sense. Is he under-appreciated? Sure. But this has all blown wildly out of proportion.
Got illustrator and photoshop earlier today and I've been trying to figure it out..
It's lights out and away we go for the first time in 2024! Here's what happened in case you missed it:
Max 31 seconds ahead of P2 (Perez) for a bit (and then 41 seconds ahead later)
Zhou Guanyu early pit -> Held P10 for multiple laps (dropped to P17 after pit)
Charles Leclerc locks up...several times
Sainz overtakes Leclerc, gets overtaken, overtakes him again
Mercedes engine (and hence, the Williams car too) having issues with overheating and power
Sargent almost retires from the race after a mechanical issue, ends up 1 full minute slower than P19 and unable to regain his position :(
Albon having issues with the screen on his wheel (most likely too bright for a night race)
Piastri comes out of pits and has the inside line, but Hamilton overtakes him
Russel and Leclerc battle for 4th, Russel locks up and Leclerc overtakes him after a failed attempt before
Ricciardo and Tsunoda chasing Magnussen, with RB making a call to do a driver swap that happened unfortunately too late. The RBs were lapped by Verstappen seconds later.
[ Sainz overtaking Leclerc the first time]
P1 - Max Verstappen, ahead of his teammate by 22 seconds to get his 8th consecutive win!
P2 - Checo Perez, ahead of Sainz by 2.6 seconds
P3 - Carlos Sainz, who also won driver of the day!
P4: Charles Leclerc, after seemingly getting his brakes in check and passing Russel
P5, 6, 7: The Brits, with Norris in a Mercedes sandwich
P8, 9, 10: Piastri ahead of the two Aston Martins by a pretty large margin
P11: Zhou Guanyu, who I personally voted driver of the day for somehow keeping the same set of tires (SOFTS!!) from Lap 10-29, and holding P9/10 for 13 laps
P12, 13, 14: The RBs behind Magnussen, with Daniel trying to catch him after a team ordered driver swap
P15- Alex Albon
P16- Nico Hulkenberg, who qualified P10 again this year
P17, 18: The two Alpines, Ocon in front
P19- Valtarri Bottas
P20- Logan Sargent, who had a mechanical issue and went out, before rejoining the race
George got interviewed but I was honestly more focused on Alex and Logan in the background...wonder what they were talking about
F1 was live on instagram a few minutes ago, with Lawrence Barnetto interviewing a couple of the drivers! Here are some of my favourite moments while I try and stay awake for the race :))
Lawrence interviewing oscar piastri with his autographed shirt
Lewis going "you rated me pretty low on the predictions" and making Lawrence freak out for a few seconds
Daniel Ricciardo! Nothing happened beyond him talking about his expectations for the car and the race, I just wanted to include him
And, of course, Spider-man waving to the drivers
Bonus: Lando being handed a mic and then turning back to whatever George was saying instead of actually doing the interview (did not get a screenshot, unfortunately) and the cameraman focusing on 1644 every time they could.
In case you haven't seen it already: The Bahrain and Saudi Arabia GP will be held on Saturday NOT Sunday!! Unless you're Australian like me. Then they're on Sunday... 2am/4am 🥲🥲
