A few bugs seen this summer!
The East side of Île de la Table Ronde is the noisy side, with the motorway running on the opposite side of the river. It's also the side with the widest walking track, and it was teeming with grasshoppers! I noticed a couple had landed on my shirt and were just chilling (maybe interested in eating the fabric? I'm thinking of locusts, aren't I). @teamroquette took the photos as I was unsure how much I could move without them jumping off. Turns out they were really chill.
Other critters seen this summer include some seen at Oberkirch: bees working on flowers, that's a classic, and... some less fortunate insects.
Bonus - posted here because my sister will kill me if I post this on Instagram where she can see it: a spider hanging out by Nonnenmattweiher lake.
February 2020 was weird
In my mind, visiting Oberkirch mid-February 2020 as my last outing before lockdown in Europe. Actually, that's not true - late February I went to Western France and Paris... but this was indeed my last solo excursion. I went for the carnival, which did take place, but Covid was very much on the horizon at that point. So there's something special about looking back at seeing people at the castle, enjoying the views and nature while it was still possible.
ES|| Ya estamos casi a medianos de setiembre, dentro de nada ya será otoño… Siempre lo digo, pero el tiempo vuela! Cómo cambia el paisaje urbano! Los más pequeñitos ya han empezado la nueva aventura que es empezar el año escolar y, según qué hora de día, se puede ver montones de niños y niñas que con sus mochilitas de colores se dirigen a descubrir miles de cosas junto a nuevos compañeros o amigos de siempre. Estos animalitos empiezan con buen pie y ya se van de campamentos, cargados con mochilas y maletas, todos en su sitio, con el cinturón puesto, mirando las maravillas que aparecen entre los árboles (menos el frailecillo que va volando siguiendo a sus amigos y solo se posa a descansar. Ah! Y el hipopótamo que conduce sin distraerse ni un poquito!)🌙
EN|| We are almost in mid-September, soon enough it will be autumn ... I always say it, but time flies! The little ones have already begun the new adventure that is starting the school year and, depending on the time of day, you can see lots of kids with their colorful backpacks heading out to discover thousands of things along with new colleagues or old friends. These little animals are off to a good start, they’re already going camping, loaded with backpacks and suitcases, all in their place, with their seat belts on, looking at the wonders hidden between the trees (except for the puffin that flies following its friends and only settles down to rest. Oh! And the hippopotamus who drives without being distracted even a little bit!)🌙
ES|| Hoy es el día mundial de las abejas! Las abejas, junto a mariposas, polillas, avispas, abejorros, mosca abejas, hormigas, moscas y escarabajos (por decir algunos insectos, hay muchísimos más y muchísimas especies en cada categoría!!) son unas de las principales encargadas de la polinización de las flores, una función vital para la biodiversidad terrestre y para nuestra alimentación. Sin embargo, están desapareciendo! Un 40% de los polinizadores invertebrados, en particular abejas y mariposas, y un 17% de los polinizadores vertebrados, como los murciélagos y los pájaros, se enfrentan a la extinción. Esta cifra aun es más alta si pensamos en las islas. En Europa una de cada diez especies de abejas está en peligro de extinción. Este peligroso, devastador y triste declive se debe a varias causas como la pérdida y deterioro de sus hábitats, principalmente a manos de los humanos, las prácticas de la agricultura industrializada, como los monocultivos, el uso de plaguicidas y otros productos químicos, los parásitos y enfermedades, las especies vegetales y animales invasoras y los impactos del cambio climático como la subida de la temperatura que afecta a la floración de las plantas y la escasez de agua.. Pensemos en estos pequeños, pero importantísimos, seres adorables, que parecen pompones voladores, y cambiemos nuestros hábitos de consumo y de vida! Comprar y promover los productos no procesados, de temporada, ecológicos y de proximidad (a mi me encantan los proyectos de agricultura regenerativa), respetar sus hábitats, no caer en el monocultivo y plantar márgenes de flores nativas silvestres son algunos de los pequeños pasos que podemos seguir para ayudarlas.🐝☀️
EN|| Today is world bee day! Bees, along with butterflies, moths, wasps, bumblebees, bee flies, ants, flies and beetles (to name a few insects, there are many more and many species in each category!!) are one of the main characters in charge of pollinating flowers, a vital function for terrestrial biodiversity and for our food chain. However, they’re disappearing! 40% of invertebrate pollinators, in particular bees and butterflies, and 17% of vertebrate pollinators, such as bats and birds, face extinction. This figure is even higher if we think of islands. In Europe, one in ten species of bees is in danger of extinction. This dangerous, devastating and sad decline is due to several causes such as the loss and deterioration of their habitats, mainly at the hands of humans, the practices of industrialized agriculture, such as monocultures, the use of pesticides and other chemical products, parasites and diseases, exotic invasive plants and animal species and the impacts of climate change such as the rise in temperature that affects the flowering of plants and the lack of water. Let's think about these small, but very important, adorable beings, who look like flying pompoms, and let's change our consumption and life habits! Buying and promoting unprocessed, seasonal, organic and local products (I love regenerative agriculture projects), respecting their habitats, not falling into monoculture and planting borders of wild native flowers are some of the small steps that we can do to help this little fellows. 🐝☀️
ES || Este año ha sido bastante raro, un año de altos y bajos. A diferencia de otros años, pocas ilustraciones con muchos detalles y personajes, de hecho muchas piezas grandes y pequeñas se quedan en el tintero en diferentes partes del proceso, con un poco de suerte antes de que finalice el año podré acabar alguna. En cambio ha sido un año de retratos de animales, de experimentación con acuarelas, panpastels, lápices de colores, gouache y otras técnicas tradicionales, pero también con illustrator y procreate. A pesar de todo, una cosa continua siendo igual, mucha naturaleza por todos lados!🌿 EN || This year has been quite rare, a year of ups and downs. Unlike other years, I’ve done few illustrations with many details and characters, in fact many large and small pieces still remain in different parts of the process, hopefully before the end of the year I will be able to finish some of them. Instead it has been a year of animal portraits, experimentation with watercolors, panpastels, colored pencils, gouache and other traditional techniques, but also with illustrator and procreate. In spite of everything, one thing remains the same, a lot of nature everywhere!🌿
ES|| La mayoría de ilustraciones que os enseño por aquí forman parte de proyectos personales que hago en medio de encargos y proyectos remunerados. Muchas veces tengo que dejar a medias estos proyectos personales porque no se vive del aire. A principios de año os empecé a enseñar mi experimentación con técnicas tradicionales, pues una cuantas ilustraciones se me quedaron en el tintero, como este caracol enamorado de una granada! No suelo hacerlo pero aquí os enseño un trozo del proceso de creación, en las imágenes podéis ver el boceto y la prueba de color en @procreate. Espero poder acabarla pronto en mis ratos libres y espero que no quede peor que en el apunte de color porque me tiene enamorada! A vosotros que os parecen los colores? 🐌 EN|| Most of the illustrations I show you here are part of personal projects I do in the middle of commissions and paid projects. Many times I have to leave these personal projects halfway because money. At the beginning of the year I began to experiment with traditional techniques, but a few illustrations were left in the inkwell, like this snail in love with a pomegranate! I don't usually do it but here I show you a piece of the creation process. In the images you can see the sketch and the color test in @procreate. I hope I can finish it soon in my spare time and I hope to not make it worse than in this color test because it has me in love! What do you think of the colors? 🐌
