[video description: Black Sails fan edit set to "Bells In Santa Fe" by Halsey. The video's visuals and audio are selected to emphasize Silver's initial belief and later desire that he would not need to be a pirate forever, particularly his ongoing, articulated desire to leave the situations he ends up in. There is emphasis on how his character/outlook changes over the course of the show, and on how he gets sucked in specifically by and because of Flint. Using the song's repeating phrases of "all of this is temporary" and "don't wait for me" the video also attempts to highlight how unhappy Silver is and how very, very stuck and enmeshed with Flint he is. /end description]
the actor of flint is really putting his entire cunt into reflecting the tense duality of total emotional unavailability and “looks gutted everytime someone talks to him sincerely”
flint (a prisoner of hierarchy and also its source) and silver (lives beyond hierarchy to avoid anything that ties him to a certain social circle) are so painfully equal and so not used to it that they try to destroy that but they'll never be able to
so i went from black sails brainrot to further watching house md bc i found out where i stopped last time and. and there it is again. you sound exactly like him? more like you're sleeping with me
that moment when silver points out that every person who'd gotten somewhat closer to flint than usual eventually ended up dead just as well reminds us of the presence of the narrative and how characters feel it too. we look at those events and figure it's scripted, while the characters, we think, will just take it as something happening in the present without noticing any particular connections. they just tend to have a different perspective.
after miranda's death i had a firm idea about this connection being out there but then silver just. literally said it. and on one hand it was nothing – he's far from dumb, so of course he noticed it – but then it just felt so surreal and almost appropriating the audience's space. you just don't expect it.
a similar thought came over my mind in the scene where silver tells billy that flint's emotions created the storm. he literally just found a connection which was supposed to be a metaphor for us, the audience, and we were supposed to take the storm in as the very fitting background for such a dramatic scene but silver just took the metaphor literally, also because it was not meant for him.
this is a genius show
guys i know. i know wikipedia is not to be trusted. but what if billy took the long john silver joke (which it was already because luke arnold is like 175 cm tall) a little further. What If
she's a witch. she's a nice puritan woman. she makes a home – she symbolizes it. she's a wife. a lover. a mother. she playfully critiques the whole english society and rejects shame. she misses joy, and life, and music and i love her So Much

TREASURE ISLAND: A Black Sails Horror Sequel
Flint’s dead! I saw him die. A terrible death it was.
If ever a man’s ghost walked, his would.

I made this edit for my fourteen year old brother who is the ultimate vanerackham truther 🤘
Vane probably takes it a bit too far. He doesn’t dress up too much, just a long coat and a hat that paints a nice shadow over his face. He brings a real knife, though, because ‘everyone can see it when they are plastic, and nobody’s gonna be scared of that‘. Jack would appear as a clever pun or something generally witty. He’d, maybe, wear a neat suit, with clean white cuffs, a tie and a suitcase full of paperwork. We are all scared of mediocrity, aren’t we? He ends up having to explain his costume for the entire evening. Anne would do something classic. She comes as a witch, looking a little more elegant in a dress than any of them had expected (including herself). She threatens to bewitch people that get too close, and with her glower, nobody takes the risk.
So in a modern Black Sails au what would our favorite pirates and friends dress up as?
James is an English language given name that is a derivative of the name Jacob, most commonly used for males. Source: James (given name)
I WAS CORRECT ALL ALONG???? HE IS ACTUALLY JACOB FLINT???? Or Jacob McGraw.
What do you mean Jacob and Staci are not a canon ship?
I have seen them (a little hot shit in his 20s and a grumpy ginger man in his 40s) in a ship, on a ship, sailing the said ship for 2 seasons straight and 2 seasons gay.
They are very much cannon.
ba dum tss

Why do you like pirates so much? WHY DO I LIKE PIRATES SO MUCH?! I'm genuinely curious and also a little scared of my new enthusiasm that came out of nowhere. I thought my pirate phase was finished ten years ago... well, apperently not and I'm a fool. And also, does it link to me uncovering my sexuality or do straight people fantasize about pirates all the fffff- time too? Is it a universal thing that we are all into piratee-stuff?
when steinberg said black sails made treasure island a different book he was right (because treasure island from the pov of silver is now a desperate last ditch attempt to Be Someone and a clear fulfillment of flint’s curse rather than a story about a greedy and manipulative man) but black sails has also made every adaptation of treasure island a different adaptation. they have all become distorted mutilated retellings of a story (about a story) that is inherently one-sided and presents silver as a monster to be feared
