I feel like a significant amount of people on the dark romance side of Booktok are just weird.

Like you can’t even criticise a dark romance book without people saying “just don’t read dark romance books then” or “maybe dark romance isn’t for you”.

You can enjoy dark romance books but not enjoy every single one. I mean imagine if people from other sub-genres started saying stuff like this too.

“You didn’t like this romantasy book? Then don’t read romantasy”

It sounds silly, doesn’t it?

It feels like dark romance readers (and obviously I don’t mean all of them) are just incapable of thinking critically for more than two seconds. If someone is picking up a dark romance book to read then that means that they either enjoy dark romance or want to get into it.

Also, a thing that I’ve noticed that pisses me off so, so much is people making excuses for these men and being like “this FMC is such a bitch for not wanting to have sex with this guy after he’s been physically and mentally abusive towards her”.

And I hate the excuse of „well it’s dark romance”.

The MMC does not have to be abusive, he doesn’t have to rape the FMC, he doesn’t have to be misogynistic, for a book to be considered dark romance.

Dark romances are just romances that deal with dark topics, whilst also having romance in them.
