The astronaut who fell in love with a mermaid

At the end of the first season's credits, we see Hanako sinking into the dark sea, while he throws Nene in fish form into the clouds.

As if to represent that he is doomed to be trapped in the sea (a metaphor to also represent that he fell in love with a mermaid) and that Nene is the one who should reach the stars (a complement to the metaphor of the mermaid who fell in love with the stars).

Nene lives in the stars, theoretically far from the water, while Amane drowns in the deepest ocean.

As if they loved each other so much that they were trapped in it. She is the fish who got lost in the stars that Amane loves so much, and he is the astronaut who drowned in the ocean, where the mermaid he loved "lived".

hanako kun tbhk jshk yugi amane yashiro nene oh wait could we also say that this water represents death? hanako’s throwing her out of the water giving her life in turn and letting himself sink away but she does in the end turn into clouds and bleeds slowly back down into the sea it’s not infinite... the life he can give her is limited (but i do think he’ll be happy as long as she can be happy) raaaaahhhh i love symbolism it can go so many ways doesn’t water have a lot of relations to death in jshk though the pit god the well the mermaid’s an outlier... but what if the water represents the supernatural world and he was trying to get her away from it. throw her out of this mess of broken pasts and broken souls kind of like how he removed her ability to see supernaturals in the pilot however... were other people in the water aside from hanako? i don’t remember anyways. yes tysm for the analysis <33 and theory <333
