When I thought quarantine-era PJO fandom was already toxic that it soured my experience, never would I also bereft the fandom would be equally toxic as before. It's a good thing popularity never reached me for this fanbase, even if it sounds unfortunate.
They steal artworks; they never credit them. They seem to irrevocably incline V-ria's official art (well, it is official for a reason, but.. they aren't as much well-described from the books—consider the Kane Chronicles. Sadie, specifically.) I yearn for the fandom to be aware that her official art still has some of her personal visionary that strays a little from the book. Though, in the end, it's not a big deal.. But I'm gonna say I'm glad she didn't continue being PJO's top artists anymore. Influential she may be, I can not deny, but I've got some insights how awfully parasocial this fandom's to her. And I don't even need to like her how bad that shit was.
This fandom is also quite allergic to characters drawn with kinky, curly hair for some reason? Even for White characters, they got some disapproval. I'm not surprised by how they treat Hazel's hairstyle and herself overall back in the 2010s.
Trying not to fume when White pro-fiction try to "it's just fiction!" all the way for the Sinners (2025) movie.
In front of you are two canonically pale-skinned (male) characters: one muscular, one with a decent body. You can reform them to any headcanon you like; it's twice the spiciness. HOWEVER, if you were to headcanon them another skin-colour aside from paleness—which one of the characters are you going to do so?
The muscular one, or the decent one?
In front of you are two (male) characters: one is brown/dark-skinned (or maybe "tan" if that's how far they go), and the other's pale-skinned. Both of them have decent body types. None of them are too muscular. Yet, here's the real deal, some fans don't like if there isn't some sort of a power-play dynamic between them. In order for that to happen, they have to conceive headcanons for them!
So who's gonna be the muscular one: the brown/dark-skinned one, or the pale-skinned?
(Hint: some fans like tropes where one is brutish and one is dazzingly pure.)
Black fans in fandom: Listen, we really don't want to see fanart and fanfics of our beloved Black characters being cucked, mutilated, tortured, dehumanised, and sidelined, because it's legitimately detrimental to our community. It tolerates racism further; we all want you guys to stop. Many of you are incredibly microaggressive, so please hold yourselves accountable for that.
Half of Non-Black fans (who are ironically pro-fic, and anti-harassment despite the fact it goes against their principles): Are you guys saying fandom shouldn't write and draw taboo themes? I'm sorry for the anti-Blackness you experience daily, but this is what fiction is about; I don't want to acknowledge the racism in our spaces because it challenges us. It evokes our guilt that we haven't expanded our idea of a "safe space" for your community because we're exhaustingly race-blind. I mean, it doesn't mean I'm racist, though! I have mutuals who are people of colour, but it just coincidentally happens they are non-Black! I specifically fancy them to have the same values as us, so we don't have to address how harmful the racism has been. It's just "fiction." Your favourite characters aren't real.
Why are hospitality-related jobs so.. anti-ADHD? Like barista for example, sure, making coffee is fun but the environment forces you to squeeze information as possible; preventing yourself from forgetting them otherwise both the job and the customers be damned. I had shared once how my brain is processed is when new info slides in; the rest are kicked out. Tasks that were once "organised" in my mind are scattered like casino chips. My manager had to warn me these behaviours are inapplicable to other jobs because each action is sacred and I won't be accepted if I keep this up.
It hurts my heart because I can't change whatever I have. I can't stop thinking about the advise my manager gave me. I can't just admit I am neurodivergent or is suspecting so because shit! I'm a barista, I work in a cafe-slash restaurant whose customers are mostly seniors! There's no time for slow-mo and I had to act fast. I also need the money and the experience.
This trend but with Kit Snicket.. ⌒(ё)⌒
A cursed thought, but I'm glad Lemony Snicket's draft adaptation(s) didn't continue, solely because it's 2025 — just IMAGINE all the "sigma boy" accounts using ATWQ Lemony Snicket's character as another of their jewelled "nonchalant sigma" idol; mischaracterise him as mysterious when, in his future, he becomes a wet, sopping adult who investigate orphans and a knack repetition of definitions..
What type of drugs gacha fans are having to create the most sensational, jaw-dropping, flourishing, spectacular, ethereal art; how did gacha convince [them] to illustrate that way? Is it the yaoi? Is it because it's bad enough, like 🐞-effect? Is it from boredom?? What⁉️
Most of the "art inspo" are gacha fanarts, leodevinci level; and I wanna tear it apart, eat that shit and absolve it inside my veins..
