yesyes! theres a lot so let me list them 😭

starting off strong w ren…

the first inspiration behind ren (despite being a competent character in the novelization, he did have a lot of gaps that needed to be filled in) isn’t the real mark zuckerberg— rather jesse eisenberg’s portrayal in ‘the social networking,’ both are condescending geniuses who are socially distant (though in rens case its by choice, in marks choice its not)

additionally, just as mark screwed over eduardo in the movie (and presumably real life) ren was planning on screwing over walter simmons the moment he was no longer useful.

the most important similarity is both thrive on being the smartest person in the room AND being painfully aware of it, silently resenting those who they deem as less intelligent.

that’s where rens similarities with mark end, as he’s not a hideous bigot, mechagodzilla was ren’s idea whereas mark is portrayed as a thief who steals concepts, rens motivations are deeply personal while marks are for people to like him, and lastly, marks social climb is about status, rens is about control and a vendetta.

the second inspiration behind ren is chris manawa from fear the walking dead, both had morally up-right, no-nonsense fathers who tried to do the right thing even if their sons had a different vision of what was right. (ishiro and travis, respectively.)

they both became disillusioned and villainous, drifting away from their father’s ethics by choice.. additionally, they had a similar radicalization— each dealt with the death of their mother in isolation with little to no support.

however, the descent of chris is a common trope in twdu— survival, desensitization, and seeing the new world as a ruleless land where they can do whatever they want, ren’s descent is driven by vengeance, ambition, childhood frustrations, and a god complex.

ren is also more calculated and wouldn’t be foolish enough to meet the fate chris did.

as some of you may know, one of the main inspirations behind ghidorahs voice was smile 2, and a lot of the events in the early chapters of ghidorahs voice mirror smile 2.

for example, both ren and skye suffer hallucinations after a traumatic event— skye after the drug-induced crash, ren after the mechagodzilla electrocution.

the mirror scene where skye hallucinating louis (luis?) in the mirror is a direct parallel to ren hallucinating ishiro in chapter 3.

ghidorah parallels the smile entity, they’re both persistent, supernatural forces that feed on trauma and slowly erodes the mind. however, in ghidorahs case, he doesn’t kill ren, he molds ren into controller x by cutting off all of rens options.

both ren and skye try to navigate public scrutiny while desperately trying to rationalize what they’re seeing— skye as a pop star, ren as an infamous nepo-baby who destroyed an entire city.

ren waking up from a coma and facing legal/ethical battles echoes skye’s return from tragedy.

like skye dismissing morris’ warnings, ren dismisses bernies warnings because he finds bernie annoying and has a deep ‘theres a scientific explantation to EVERYTHING’ value instilled in him.

on a more comedic note, the next one is ryan howard. walter simmons is rens michael scott— a buffoonish, self-important boss ren both tolerates and despises depending on what walter could contribute in rens conquest to kill godzilla.

like ryan, ren is the ‘golden boy’ who is expected to rise fast but they both harbor bitterness and ambition, not caring who they have to step on to reach their goals.

however, ryan’s downfall is due to incompetence and ego— he’s lazy and self-sabotaging, ren is anything but lazy, rens downfall is more about flying too close to the sun, emotional instability and three headed alien forces.

in short, ryan is played for comedy, ren is steeped in tragic horror.

back to the tragic note, one of rens biggest inspirations was junior wheeler from chucky. (anyone who knew me in 2021 knew i was DEVASTATED when he kicked the bucket and was in straight denial for months) junior is manipulated by chucky, ren by ghidorah— though not to the same extent, as ren is intelligent enough to see ghidorah is using him, but an enemy of his enemy is his friend.. however, this doesn’t change how both are essentially possessed by malevolent forces praying on vulnerability.

both characters lashing out and transformations into killers are tied to emotional repression and manipulation.

additionally, from the dialogue to the context, ghidorah finally convincing ren his own humanity is whats holding him back is directly inspired by this scene

back to differences, juniors arc is short-lived and tragic, rens is longer and more strategic, involving tech, politics, and global stakes.

junior died as a teenager and didn’t fully understand what he was doing, while rens frontal lobe is fully developed, and not only does ren embrace what hes doing, he even tries to justify it.

lastly for ren is the salesman from squid game, both are lapdogs to greater powers (the salesman to the frontman, ren to ghidorah.)

they both project confidence and control but are ultimately servants trying to feel special in a system they dont control.

both (at least after ren adopts the persona of x) have a certain aesthetic flair, masking their true insignificance.

as for ichi, his biggest inspiration is..

princess blister from wings of fire! both are the most cunning and manipulative of their respective trios, they act as the ‘brains’ of the operation— always plotting several steps ahead, enjoying mind games and psychological warfare.

ichi and blister have a similar way of disguising their ruthlessness with eloquence, additionally, they both also don’t give the facade much effort— snapping the moment they get called out.

both were turned into dust 💀

both are narcissistic, believing they are the rightful rulers and vastly superior to those around them.

naturally, since ichi is inspired by blister..

ni is inspired by princess burn! ni, like burn, enjoys cruelty for his own sake— not mindless brutality, but calculated, indulgent violence.

both ni and burn are often underestimated as ‘the muscle’ and nothing else, but they show tactical awareness when it benefits them. just like burn using queen scarlet as a shield from glorys venom, ni is the kind of guy who would sacrifice anyone to gain an edge or survive.

the next for ni is nam-gyu from squid game (nam-gyu referring to other players as cockroaches was my direct inspo for ghidorah referring to humans as cockroaches), both are right hand figures— ni to ichi, nam-gyu to thanos, both act loyal but are really in it for their own gain and survival.

they both have a duality of superiority and inferiority complexes— they feel like they’re the most dangerous out of their respective groups, yet simmer with resentment at being second to someone else.

just like how nam-gyu only truly respects thanos, ni only respects ichi— but even then, that respect is overshadowed by envy and loathing.

both revel in mocking those weaker than them, even more so if they sense emotional vulnerability.

for san, as i stated in chapter 20, his main inspiration is..

agatha harkness! san, like agatha, enjoys manipulating the emotions of others (ren and wanda respectively) under the guise of charisma or humor.

both are showboats, loving dramatic reveals, flashy speeches, and being the most memorable individual in the room— even if that means coming off as a nuisance and being hated.

i’d say a match made in hell LMAO! this isnt entirely accurate to the canon controller x since i filled in some gaps w hcs, such as his familial background— i imagine the xiliens were like leafwings from wof w leafspeak, they would pair the stronger xiliens tg to create even stronger offspring.

A soft beep emitted from his visor as it projected a grainy, holographic image— Canon!Controller X in his final moments, cackling as he triggered the ship’s destruction.) Interesting, I presume you are me from another universe, Apex could’ve achieved this technology in fifty years maximum with my intellect.

Canon!Controller X: What the hell are you talking about? And what the hizzle is an Apex?

Controller X!Ren: (Tilts his head, this time with something resembling intrigue.. How could he not know?) Apex was the company we worked for in our human life, we were the chief technology officer— a scientist, an engineer.. We piloted Gojira’s superior.

Canon!Controller X: (Blinks beneath his own visor, then barking a sharp, incredulous laugh.) Scientist? Engineer? Cattle talk. I was born among the Xiliens, in outer space, you think my name is something cattle tongues could even pronounce?

Controller X!Ren: (In a quiet, measured, almost hesitant voice.) Then tell me, were you ever Ren Serizawa?

Canon!Controller X: (His smug demeanor cracked in the form of his mouth twitching.) Who the fuck is Ren Serizawa?

Controller X!Ren: (Smiles, though not kindly.) I was.. The world didn’t want to understand Ren Serizawa, but King Ghidorah did. He opened my eyes, gave me purpose, helped me realized Ren Serizawa was a joke, hell, a tragedy. Humans want either a perfect victim or a perfect villain, you cannot be anywhere in-between or you will be disgraced— cast away. (His fingers tap against the side of his visor.) So I became X.

Canon!Controller X: (Looks at his counterpart as if he was some grotesque curiosity, cattle— he was once cattle.) You were.. One of them?

Controller X!Ren: For a time. You appear young, late teens, early twenties, perhaps? Tell me— what was your family like?

Canon!Controller X: (Scoffs.) My parents were paired to create a Kaiser amongst the Xiliens, after several failed attempts with my siblings, they finally got it right with me.. And yours?

Controller X!Ren: My father was the director of Monarch, an organization meant to study and protect Titans. My mother was a florist who worked with Monarch for their events— that’s how they met.

Canon!Controller X: (Snorts.) And..?

Controller X!Ren: (Fingers twitch, a faint spark of golden energy stemming from them.) My father never really saw me, I suppose I can’t blame him for initially thinking I would be okay with that, it was all he ever knew as my grandfather, Eiji started the cycle— neglecting his son, reconciling far too late.. But, my father threw himself to Gojira as if he had nothing left after his precious replacement daughter, Vivienne Graham, was eaten by Ghidorah.. All the more reason to adore Ghidorah, he got rid of my competition.

Canon!Controller X: (Stares blankly.) Are we done with your sob stories?

Controller X!Ren: (Lip curls, though he ultimately let it slide.)

Canon!Controller X: So there’s a Gojira in your world.

Controller X!Ren: (Scoffs.) Oh, there’s a Gojira, all right. My father was so devoted to him, we may as well have been brothers. And despite all his destruction, when I put my life on the line piloting the Mecha to stop him, I barely survived. (He reached up and with a flick of his fingers, removed his visor. Beneath it, his right eye was gone, replaced by an old, deep shrapnel wound.) I didn’t make it out entirely unscathed.

Canon!Controller X: (Frowns, inspecting the injury.) Tch. I didn’t even know a Gojira existed, some cattle idiot released him. My monsters were nearly helpless against him— except for Gigan and Monster X, of course.

Controller X!Ren: (Sneers.) King Ghidorah is superior.

Canon!Controller X: (Bristles.) Now, my turn to ask a question. Do you know Shinichi Ozaki?

Controller X!Ren: No, should I?

duh!! i love worldbuilding on the little things so lets get it !

- ren serizawa in the ghidorahs voice au attended an elitist tokyo school from the years 2006-2009, his father was a fairly public figure who often preached about balances long before the 2014 attack which resulted in ren having a big target on his back throughout his school days, already having few friends due to being reserved on top of now being bullied.

- ghidorastan64 wasn’t born until a particular incident involving one of rens peers going out of his way to put a salamander in his shoe, which can easily be considered the straw that broke the camels back.

- when ren got home that day, he did what any angry chronically online teenager in that era and beyond would do and created ‘ghidorastan64’ as a means to take out his frustration on others, its worth noting the internet was a very different place than it is today, with that being said, he frequently targeted monarch pages, pro titan pages, vivienne graham in particular, and later went on to troll real life lolcows such as chris chan.

- ren DID NOT know ghidorah was a real thing when he created the username, to him, it was an evil creature from mythology and he had no idea said creature would fuck him over.

- nowadays, the ghidorastan64 account became so infamous several people began to use the handle— this means ren wasn’t the only one trolling bernie and a few copycat trolls came along down the line. even nearly 20 years after the account was made, controller x!ren considers this his biggest secret and feels true fear whenever someone refers to him as ghidorastan64 as opposed to X.

im tryna take more gaps between releasing chapters for ghidorahs voice since its nearing the end and its only ab a month old— i wanna let the fic grow but i have sm muse so is there any questions hcs or extended content (that typa stuff) yall would want pls comment !

these are unique hypotheticals so let me dive in!

- i imagine madison would be way more resistant since as opposed to ren who has a similar dynamic to cletus and carnage, madison and ghidorah could have a similar dynamic to flash and (anti?) venom, idk i dont tap into that side of marvel much but what i mean is madison is an unwilling host

- i think madison would be more vocal ab what happened to her, ghidorah might js use her as a carrier to give him a more useful vessel since madison lacks the skill to achieve any of his goals

- i think if walter survived (say him and madison were standing on opposite sides of the control room in gvk) he would have a legitimate reason to hate titans since you didn’t state whether or not his daughter, maia survived i assume she didn’t and since he’s established as a powerful person where ‘no cost is too high for him’ he could prolly sue the living hell out of monarch and put them out of commission, if hes anything like real world billionaires who get so bored with their money they decide to buy their way into having their hands in politicians pockets, he could go as far as to throwing mark and friends behind bars, blaming bernie for mechagodzilla going rogue

- honestly, ren might not even be involved at all and could’ve went on to align himself with some other anti-titan organization, since he only saw simmons as a stepping stone, it can be assumed his loyalties did not lie w apex at all and he was only sticking around so he could personally kill godzilla, but since that failed, he could be elsewhere.

is Ren/x still considered human or is he fully Xillien now?

this is an interesting question and im happy to answer it! the answer is he’s something in between, i wouldn’t say he’s on the path to becoming an xilien but rather the first of a new species or sub species/cousin to the xiliens. while the xiliens in the ghidorahs voice universe are humans who mutated after the hiroshima bombing and had rapid-advancing technology, ren/x was first mutated by ghidorahs blessings (as he calls it), and possesses more electricity in his body than the average human or xilien, ghidorahs blessings gave him the abilities to telepathically communicate with ghidorah and electrokinesis, however, upon declaring himself X and further mutating, he gained telepathy as a whole, telekinesis, energy projection, command over xiliens & their monsters. he doesn’t quite have the resistance xiliens have, but his immune system is much better, as many humans had collapsed upon breathing in hedorah’s fumes, all ren/x did was burst into a coughing fit— which frustrated him because it reminded him he wasn’t quite finished shedding his humanity, but also gave him hope he would eventually not be human entirely. with that being said, chapter 29 is out !

sooo heres some more not nessacairly organized notes for the ghidorahs voice universe!!

- (pre gvk) mira used to leave sticky notes with sweet msgs in rens lab since their hours were different, he pretended to find it annoying but kept them everytime 😭

- its not a fic of mine if there arent lgbtq characters soo.. ghidorah as a whole is aroace, he’s too evil to feel love and would only be with someone if he had something to gain from it, ren/x is demiromantic (meaning he rarely feels romantic attraction, and when he does, its because the relationship started as a friendship), maia is omnisexual with a female lean, rodan and gigan are gay, ill go on to edit this laterr

- ghidorah recognizes they hit a jackpot with ren, its not everyday someone with bordering genius intellect hellbent on revenge on your ancient rival who you also despite willingly dawns a helmet establishing a connection with your brains. ghidorah felt a lot of glee when their unwilling puppet turned out to be probably the most capable person of building them a new body in addition to hating the same lizard they do, meaning they could capitalize on his hatred and bring him closer to them out of desperation.

- in all actuality, ren/x didn’t escape the courtroom in chapter 8, he was hauled off to a jail under monarchs supervision without any problems, fleeing the courtroom, going to bernie for help, and being cornered by a demonic manifestation of himself in 2024 was all a hallucination induced by ghidorah. the demonic manifestation saying ‘we’ve been waiting for you for such a long time’ represents how ghidorah was trapped with ren in the three year coma, waiting for him to claw his way out. 2024 ren as a whole represents the last time ren serizawa was alone in his own head, the neurolink helmet showcasing how he welcomed ghidorah with open arms, intentionally or not, ghidorah is inside him now.

- since i took inspiration from princess burn from wings of fire when expanding upon ni’s personality, he has an odd fasinication with all things dead and instincts on keeping sans several severed heads, which creeps the hell out of san, but ni considers it the only leverage against san since san makes it his mission to piss ni off and get him off task.

- when creating sans personality, one of the points i made was to NOT downplay the fact he willingly attempted to destroy the world. i feel when writers baby san, it takes away from the fact ghidorah represents satan in a lot of ways and this is godzillas greatest rival we’re talking about, im not gonna tell others how to write san since its fiction and at the end of the day its not a huge deal, but sans main inspiration is agatha harkness— he thrives on deception, putting on a charismatic front that ichi and ni lack to make himself seem almost likeable, but it pisses him off royally when others dub him the nice head as it makes him feel inferior to ichi and ni.

- ichi is well aware ni wants to usurp him and often eggs ni on just to see if he’d ever grow the balls to try, on the topic of ichi, he is the mastermind behind ghidorahs schemes and personally gave san the task to run mechagodzilla as a means to ‘redeem himself’ since ichi wanted someone to blame for their loss (his ego cant COMPREHEND the idea it was his own fault, however he also learned from his mistakes and knows to take out humanity before facing godzilla) but at the end of the day, ichi knew mechagodzilla would fail and it was more of an intimidation display than anything else, sort of to let godzilla know ‘hey, you didnt kill us and you wont, the devil doesnt die’

- i’ve seen a lot of people headcanon ren had a rebellious phase in his youth and i wanna say that does NOT apply to my take on ren, yall, piloting mechagodzilla and becoming anti-titan IS his rebellion against ishiro 😭 schools in japan are strict and dont even allow students to get piercings to put that into perspective, my take on ren spent his school years coloring in the lines and being rather reserved, isolating himself and channeling his time into expanding his engineering skills to impress ishiro, the most rebellious thing he ever did was take out his frustrations from being bullied FOR BEING ishiros son at school into becoming an internet troll, which in the late 2000s was just for chronically online teenagers. while on the topic of rens high school years, i imagine he ran his schools robotics team like the navy 💀

- in the gvk artbook, we see ren wearing a lot of black was intentional and meant to convey the mystery of his character

with that being said, i carried gvks fashion storytelling into ghidorahs voice, i imagine as ghidorah continued to corrupt ren and strip him of any options or ways out, his attire progressively gains more gold accents such as gold jewerly, black w/ gold, and by the time he declared himself X, i imagine his attire looked a lot like the original controller X in final wars, but instead of the blue and black we see, its gold and black.

- the idea of the public turning its back on ren before court trials even began sort of parallels the fandoms opinion on him without even reading the novel 💀 they literally HATE him because they cant stand the idea that ishiro was a shit dad and js shitty to ren overall, imagine in addition to ur dad dying for a random monster, he adopted some random british girl long before that and you hear people going ‘theres no serizawa without graham haha!’ yeah there’s rlly no wonder he became a villain LMAO

- in some ways, ishiro is the overaching antagonist of ghidorahs voice since this is ren/X’s story i’m telling, its mostly told through his perspective so his worldviews determine who the protagonists and antagonists are.

i know you only asked ab the ghidorah heads but i’ve been dying for a ghidorahs voice hc dump so im taking this as ‘do you have any headcanons for ghidorahs voice?’ which i do!

- since ghidorahs roar is more of a high-pitched screech or cackle, i’ve always imagined his voice was high pitched and bordered on feminine with a demonic edge, so i’d say he sounds like ‘HIM’ from powerpuff girls, obviously ichi ni and san have slightly different voices but HIM is the closest i could find.

- ghidorah saw all 33 years of rens life play out while in the coma as if it were a movie, meaning they saw lots of unpleasant things they’d rather not see (interpret this how you will)

- ichi actually isn’t the best at combat, obviously hes ghidorah and can fight, but he’s much more gifted in psychological torment and usually says something to get under his enemies skin AND THEN going for the kill after stunning them.

- additionally, ichi pays attention very heavily to body language, he’s learned lots of sign of human nervousness and human body language in general from the three years he spent in a comatose rens mind, going through his memories.

- ni has always wanted to usurp ichi, he just knows ichi is way smarter than him and is uncertain on whether san would be on board. ~~possible au where ni and san successfully erase ichi’s consciousness and instead have ren/x upload his consciousness to mecha king ghidorahs middle head.. making ren the cady haron to ichis regina george LMAO~~

- that being said, i’ve always liked the idea of ni being the henchman whos objectively more evil than their superior, ni is the best fighter out of the three and though he believes they would’ve killed godzilla in round one under their leadership, ni lacks the critical thinking to plan attacks and is a very ‘claws on’ kinda guy so he wouldn’t want to waste time planning.

- san is big on theatrics and dramatics so while in rens body, he often drags his trenchcoat as if it were a cape.

- san is more mockingly curious than genuinely curious abt human life, like the tags of ghidorahs voice states, he is __just__ as much of a villain as his brothers, the three of them are simply different villain archtypes who hate eachother and wouldn’t work together if they weren’t attached to the same body.

- ghidorastan64 was one of the chris chan trolls, i got this idea because i watch chris chan documentaries while writing 💀

- hate isnt a strong enough word to describe how ren/X feels about vivienne graham and godzilla— for the same reason, might i add! he feels they stole ishiros time and attention from him.

- ren/X views ghidorah as a sensei figure of sorts, he believed ghidorah saved his life and would’ve died from electrocution in 2024 if it weren’t for ghidorahs interference and since ghidorah has unintentionally shown more and pride interest in his accomplishments than ishiro has, ren/X may even go as far as to viewing ghidorah as a father figure, though he still deems ishiro irreplaceable, ghidorah is a close second.

- that being said, the father/son affections are completely onesided and all three heads of ghidorah view ren/x as a desperate puppet, a means to an end— they capitalize on his hatred for godzilla and overall mean spirited nature to mold him into the perfect lapdog.

i love all these questions so lets begin !!

as stated before, i got the idea to write a possessed ren story when i noticed the sheer lack of others exploring this concept. for early chapters, i took inspiration from horror movies such as smile 2 and the lazarus effect, as the story progresses, i also used elements from biblical horror such as the antichrist.

i have a bunch of comparisons so lets get itt! i didnt have to develop a lot of the characters but mira is inspired by my two favorite adaptions of mary-jane watson, her introduction in the 60s before being destroyed by bad writing and her mcu counterpart, as well as being an obvious nod to emiko yamane from the original ‘54 film. san is based off comedic villains such as agatha harkness and the joker, ni takes strongly after princess burn from wings of fire and i’ve been pretty into squid game lately so nam-gyu/player 124 as well, naturally, since ni takes after princess burn, ichi takes after princess blister and dr doom, but i’d argue ichi is worse than doom as ichi literally wants to burn the world, doom has been told by the panther god the world will be a better place ruled by him.

my favorite chapter is tied between chapter 8 and chapter 16, i love the scene in chapter 8 where ren is forced to confront a demonic hallucination of his past self but i also love when he finally realizes he has to take a different approach and abandons not only his identity but his humanity and dawns the title of X.

my second favorite kaiju is tied between gigan, spacegodzilla, and bio!maddie. its difficult to choose when i’ve had a lot of fun writing them but i like them more than the pre established mv titans since theres more i can do wo asking myself ‘would blank *really* do this?’

yes! godzilla has already fought kiryu and is getting ready to confront ghidorah in the next chapter.

since mrs. serizawa isnt all that important to his motivations, probably not, we just saw her in chapter 27 and controller x!ren could care less abt anything from his human life.

heard on ao3 you plan on doing another Ghidorah’s voice what if with Madison inheriting Ghidorah’s curse which I’m really excited about since Ghidorah’s voice is an unexpected masterpiece of Godzilla media

I could definitely see Ghidorah and Madison’s shared psyche being more like Dr. Jekyll, & Mr. Hyde so when Ghidorah takes over he decides to have fun with Madison’s body, taking it on a rampage similar to let’s say in Hulk 2003 during with Bruce his first transformation or electro’s awakening in amazing Spider-Man 2

second off, maddie being possessed by ghidorah rather than ren would be interesting but now that i think of it i once im done w ghidorahs voice i prolly wont be on the fanfic scene since in addition to ghidorahs voice i own a discord rp server that i need to keep alive and since im writing anywhere between 3k and 7k words per chapter i find myself too burnt out to reply on disc which is smth i def wanna fix. back to the topic on hand, i’d encourage others to take inspo on ghidorahs voice and write their own take, of course, maddie is a more trusted individual than ren so i think others would believe her and she’d also be more willing to accept help (ren wasnt willing to accept bernies help when he couldve been saved), ren has a lot more hate in his heart than maddie does for ghidorah to feed off of, and ren already hated godzilla for his lifelong issues w/ his father, however, i dont see ghidorah having much use for maddie since as smart as she is, ren has access to technology and is obviously brilliant as we saw in gvk, that ultimately resulted in mecha king ghidorah but i dont think maddie would be capable of building mkg, and with ren going on to become controller X, i dont think maddie would stoop that low.

at the end of the day, i do encourage others to explore this idea since i have a lot on my plate writing wise 💀💀
