Twst Ocs: Stims and fidgets

Discussing the stims and fidgets that my ocs do! Inspired by a headcanon post by @twistedwonderlandshenanigans talking about the stims that the twst cast do!

Xenio:

ADHD icon. Their brain is usually all over the place so they have a LOT of trouble focusing and keeping his energy down. Especially if she's expected to "behave well". If he needs to keep it more subtle, he'll stretch a lot. It's definitely not the same as how she normally stims, but stretching helps a little at least. If he's free to stim as he needs to, then oh boy he's not holding back. Most notably, making weird noises. Xenio does chirps and trills in her normal speech pattern regardless, but that gets turned up to 11 when he's especially happy. When they really need to focus on something that they aren't interested in, he might pull at his hair or have a fidget cube on hand.

Lumi:

Because they work as a waiter at the lounge and get important information for Azul, they do have an act to keep up. But considering that persona is someone cute and ditzy, there's definitely room to fidget. Lumi doesn't really stim much. More so they can be very restless and find it hard to not do as they please. Lumi sways a lot and frequently changes which foot they put most of their weight on. Someone please give this mer a weighted blanket. They don't know that they exist, but they could really use one.

Desmond:

This boy recklessly puts things in his mouth. If it's a small object with a potentially good or interesting texture, then he's chewing on it. Marbles, rocks, bottle caps, pen caps, straws . . . the list goes on and on. He accidentally ate part of a straw once and gave Jack a heart attack. He also just leaves to go jog for a minute. Desmond will literally be in the middle of a conversation, then the Need to Move feeling will kick in, and he'll just say "Brb I need to jog down the hall a few times and then I'll feel better." Another thing is that he always has his bandana on his neck, he loves it because it mimics feeling in a smaller space. If he doesn't have it, he'll start rubbing and squeezing his neck.

Corvus:

He doesn't like stims that draw too much attention, so he might do several subtle stims at the same time. He also bites his tongue a lot, and has made it bleed because of his fangs before. He also bounces his leg a lot. He likes pop boards and fidget rings, but he doesn't like using them in public because of the noises they make. Corvus wants to stim so badly, but normally he won't allow himself to do much unless things are Bad.

Victor:

He doesn't stim too much when he's happy, just mostly when something's wrong or Bad. He picks at the skin around his nails or scabs a lot. He knows that he shouldn't, but he just can't stop himself. If his intrusive thoughts get really upsetting, he might hit the heel of his hand against his forehead.

Mallory:

Mallory's stims usually have a lot to do with his face. They'll make popping noises or clicks a lot. A common one is that he'll scrunch up his nose or blink a lot. When Mallory stims, he frequently gets stuck doing it and finds it hard to stop. They might pull at their lips a lot as well.

Have you ever heard of power clashing? I recently learned about it, it's fashion where you intentionally pair patterns together that go against each other and break fashion "rules".

This is pretty much Xenio's signature style.

Vil barely tolerates it. Scolding Xenio for it would go against why she transferred to Pomefiore, so Vil lets it slide (at the cost of his own sanity). In contrast, Rook loves their style.

I have to say that I was dying to reference The Tale of Despereaux with this character. That book means so much to me. I haven't read Alice in Wonderland in a long time, so I forget what the dormouse is like in the book. Mallory is based on the Disney movie because of that. I consider Mallory to be one of my more interesting twst ocs becasue he was a very late bloomer with his magic. He only developed his UM shortly before being accepted to NRC, so he's still figuring it out and doesn't have a name for it. I can see his magic being comparable to Trey's. Mallory really looks up to Victor because they see him as a role model and someone to strive to be like. I don't have much else to say except they struggle with anxiety plus the feeling of failure and has a stutter.

- 15: Are they more likely to fight with their fists or their tongue?

Desmond would be the most likely to fight with his fists, he's not great with words but he knows how to defend himself and has no problem with it if it's justified. Corvus and Victor are both. They're better with their words than their fists, but they do decent if a situation escalates. Lumi is 100% a verbal fighter, they know exactly how to tear someone down and exactly which buttons to push. Xenio, Lucas, and Mallory . . . are neither. They're the kind of people to just take whatever comes their way and put a brave face on. They act fine, but they always take things to heart.

- 32: Does your character believe in ghosts?

Desmond and Lumi don't. Twst may be a magical world, but that doesn't mean that the supernatural exists to them. Victor, Mallory, and Lucas are neutral. They don't really believe in the supernatural, but if they were given proof or experienced something personally, they wouldn't be surprised. Xenio and Corvus absolutely believe in ghosts and the supernatural. In Xenio's case, I've been working on doing world building for harpy culture, and superstitions and the supernatural are a big part of it. For Corvus, it's more of a headcanon for fae in twst. My headcanon is that since fae seem to possess magic differently / more intensely than other species, it acts differently after death. Until a fae's magic is completely burned through, after death a part of them will wander until their magic is returned to the earth. I'm treating Lilia as an outlier since he's different because of burning through a large portion of his magic and because fae do have expected lifespans, even if they're much longer than other species.

Twst OC Bio: Victor Callahan

Time for some more RSA ocs! I've been stuck on this one for a while because I couldn't come up with a name I was happy with. I might change it in the future.

Okay this is going to be a long ramble because I have a lot to say. This was another of my very early twst oc ideas that I never did anything with at first. I think around a year ago, I saw that an artist that I admire draw their version of the white queen in twst and I had to try to make a character from the same inspiration. The reason that I'm still not happy with his name is just that I put a lot of thought and meaning / symbolism into my characters' names. I wanted his initials to be "V" and "C" because of the vorpal sword and because of Lewis Carroll. This was the best combination that I've come up with so far, but I'll almost definitely change it if I think of something better. The vorpal sword is also the inspiration behind Victor enjoying collecting knives, and the scene in the 2010 movie where the white queen makes a potion to return Alice to normal size is the inspiration behind the random potion making and testing. Except Victor has no method behind the madness. He just throws whatever he has into a caldron and so be whatever happens. He lost his right arm in an accident when he was very little and has a prosthetic arm that looks like blue and white porcelain (I'm going to add an image of what I mean at the end). Victor is also albino. I have a hair style that I think suits him, but I have no idea what it's called. I'll put this first in the images, and I'd be grateful if someone could tell me what it's called. I'm trying to learn about black hair and hairstyles so I can properly draw some of my characters, but I'm still far from knowledgeable. As far as clothing ideas go, I really want to lean in to the impractical doll clothes vibe with his dorm leader outfit, there's also a little bit of a carnival vibe but Idk how to properly express what I mean. I found an image of doll shoes on Pinterest while looking for inspiration and I love them so much and I'm definitely making the part of his outfit. The heel of the shoe is an hourglass and I'm so obsessed with that design. Well I though that I'd have more time to talk, but I don't so I'm cutting myself off here.

This is for @casp1an-sea 's twst character challenge! I got Winnie the Pooh from the spinning wheel, and the random character I picked from that was Owl!

Rambling:

This was very fun because it was so different from how I normally create ocs. Normally, I just get hit with random ideas and see what I can make out of them. I almost never do stuff like this because I usually can't follow through if I'm not actually passionate about the idea. But I did it this time! My favoritism towards theming characters after birds is really showing. Anyway, on to random character information. Lucas is specifically a Eurasian Eagle-Owl because Owl was only portrayed as a distinct species of owl once and it was an eagle-owl. He's Swiss! Of course I had to make him a history teacher. Some students question if his knowledge is actually accurate because of his UM. He's prone to long rambles during class. He constantly remembers how this relates to that, and how that relates to this other thing, and so on. Some students really hate his class because of that, but he does it because he genuinely loves teaching! He wants to share everything that he knows! He also writes children's books under a pen name. They're stories that he used to tell to his siblings, nieces, and nephews when they were little. Also yes he has feathers that pop out of his hair and look like little "horns".

Writing is still giving me panic attacks, but I do want to get back into it. I think writing for my ocs instead of fics would be easier rn, so:

Of course I don't mind! I love character questions (I'm just to shy to ask people about theirs or talk about mine normally)! Also so sorry that this took so long to get to, I spent most of the afternoon trying to get all the paw badges.

I'm not completely caught up on your writing for Finn, so my apologies if anything is clearly out of character! Here we go! :

Xenio:

I'm not sure if Xenio would have many opportunities to truly spend time with Finn, but he loves meeting new people so he automatically has a good opinion. I remember you saying that he goes to Pomefiore to paint, so they've probably seen each other around. Xenio's heard about how people feel off in Finn's wake and isn't bothered in the slightest. In fact, it makes her want to know him better! Xenio is drawn towards people who are quite eccentric or strange, because so are they. It's the reason they transferred from Ignihyde to Pomefiore. I also remember that Finn is sensitive to noise, so I don't know how he'd feel about Xenio's frequent trilling (it's like a vocal stim for her).

Lumi:

Lumi would be quite fond of Finn. Lumi can drop their act and just exist normally around him. Lumi quickly learned to stop with the bullshit because they realized they'd get nothing out of him, which ironically lead to begrudging respect and then what could be called a friendship (though I doubt either would admit this). They use different strategies to get dirt on people, so sometimes they swap information on certain students for other beneficial info. I feel like these two would love to trash talk.

Desmond:

Hmm . . . Desmond doesn't exactly dislike Finn, it's just that he knows trouble when he sees it. Finn may keep to himself, but there's still a reason he's in Octavinelle. Desmond is very loud and brash, so I feel like their personalities would just clash a lot. If there's anything these two could find neutral ground about, I think it would be flying. Desmond definitely respects Finn's flying skills and would love to have some kind of competition against him. I feel like if they got to know each other better, they might get along somewhat. That being said, I wouldn't bet too much on that.

Corvus:

I kinda feel like Finn would have a worse opinion on Corvus than he would have about Finn. And honestly, that's fair. Desmond is more of an unintentional troublemaker, while Corvus intentionally causes trouble. He goes out of his way to do things that make people think less of him because it also means that no one expects anything out of him. He's also very loud as well as clearly only cares about one thing and leaves everything else to be swept aside. Corvus has a neutral view about Finn. While he can't let his guard down around him because of his close connection to the tweels and Azul, Finn has also never done anything to really give him a bad opinion. As long as it stays that way, Corvus isn't going to think negatively about him.

That's it! I hope that I did Finn some justice in this. I've never gotten to write about my characters while keeping someone else's in mind, so this was good writing practice. Ty for the ask!

The last of the new ocs! I hoped to post this right after Desmond's bio but I've been busy since then. Oh well, it's here now though!

Rambling:

My main direction for this character has been that I wanted someone who stood out from the Diasomnia cast. That led to a character that rebelled against expectations from his family and homeland. I considered making him half-fae like Sebek, but I thought he would stand out more as a full blooded fae while being this rebellious. I don't remember if this is canon or from a fanfic, but I read that fae rarely move from Briar Valley, and when they do they normally don't return. That was a major inspiration for this character. Corvus had expectations of using his skills with math to get a high paying job placed upon him from a young age, but his only interest is music. He started to rebel from his family and standards in fae culture. He plays the drums, electric guitar, and sings. He has a begrudging respect for Malleus since he's royalty, but besides that he has conflicting opinions about him. He gets along pretty well with Lilia since he's the only other fae Corvus has seen that's like him, but he's wary of being too close to him. Corvus enjoys being around Silver since he's so chill, but he'd fight Sebek for free any day, any time (and would absolutely do so if he wasn't so closely linked to Malleus). He's a big fan of any kind of showy makeup, he really tries to keep up the rockstar look. "Diablo" is "devil" in Spanish, but I have absolutely no understanding of Spanish, so I made his last name the French word for "devil" since I have a small understanding of French. I need to cut this off here because I'm still kinda busy and need to finish something before more happens.

I will admit that he's not a very fleshed out character yet. He's very similar to Ruggie. Desmond's family struggled to make money while he was growing up, and what they did have always went to the most important things first. Things were getting better before he went to NRC, and he's happy that his younger sister won't have the same childhood than he did. He's very competitive because of a need to be when he was little. His UM comes from needing to steal food sometimes, this also caused him to be very crafty and able to disappear quickly. I don't have much more to say, I still need to work on the kind of person that Desmond is while at NRC. So here's some info about his sister: Her name is Lilly, and she's 8 years old. She's trying to grow her hair as long as possible and loves ladybugs :)

So this one isn't inspired from an already existing character, I just really love jellyfish and wanted a jellyfish oc. Visually, their mer form is based on moon, cannonball, and bluefire jellyfish (I'll put pictures at the end of the post). I know that their UM contradicts their dislikes and that was intentional. They dislike makeup because they don't like things on their face and they just don't feel the desire to wear any. The most makeup that they'd ever wear is a little bit of eyeliner. They find Pomefiore students as a whole incredibly annoying and exhausting because of the general obsession with beauty. Epel is pretty okay, though. Their UM is inspired by both Moon Jellyfish and Immortal Jellyfish! Lumi is basically an information broker for Azul. They use their UM to look very unassuming and fake an airhead personality which causes people to drop random information. No one thinks that someone as ditzy as they seem to be would actually remember what's confessed to them. People even go to them looking for advice! Lumi lives for hearing any drama. They get along well with Cater. Only Azul and Jade know what their UM is. Also they're plus size because fuck I need to see more characters that look like me. You have no idea how much Yuuta means to me.

Yeah idk if anyone here cares but I suddenly got an idea for an oc on the bus ride home the other day and I've quickly grown attached to this character so I want to talk about him! This post is super long but whatever.

So he ended up having far more Greek inspiration than I originally planned. Whoops. My thought process was if I was gonna make this character a harpy, then I wanted some connections to Greek mythology. His name comes from the word xenia, an ancient Greek concept of hospitality. It's also a reference to Zeus as he was sometimes called Zeus Xenios due to his role as a protector of strangers. I also went with the Zeus reference because I wanted to give him lightning magic. The nickname from Rook comes from a drink called absinthe, which has wormwood as an ingredient. It was called "the green fairy" in various literature. He's frequently called Magpie because of his stealing collecting random objects, mostly shiny ones.
