So spoilers for DRV3 under the cut AJWJDKDK
Why is it that when people make pregame content they forget about how they acted in the prologue? Like obviously if you wanna write them like that go ahead but it confuses me on how thatโs the MAJORITY. I think it stems from the audition tapes at the end of the game but thatโs always seemed strange to me.
Like Iโve seen most people write pregame Kaito as an absolute dick who would beat up people regularly (basically a bully), but we donโt really see that in the prologue. In the prologue, we donโt get much sure, but from what we do see, heโs not acting brash or rude at all. If I remember right, he even sounds worried (or is at the very least still panicked about the situation) when he questions if Kaede and Shuichi were chased by โthat monsterโ (exisals). Sure, we donโt really know his thoughts for that line but you donโt really say that if you care for nobody but yourself (in my opinion at least).
(I REMEMBERED RIGHT LETS GOOO)
This isnโt even mentioning Kokichi, who acts so different from fanon pregame like what. Pregame Kokichi is usually characterized as a whiny teen who canโt handle confrontation and is an extreme introvert. But one of his few lines in the prologue is him volunteering to go back out (where they all just ran for their lives) to see whatโs happening before getting shut down for his safety. And he doesnโt say it scared either, he says it pretty calmly (not saying heโs calm but heโs clearly not panicking nearly as bad as people portray him).
(I know his name (and Kaitoโs earlier) is question marks but it is his voice when he says it please believe me lol)
Honestly, it kinda bums me out that not a lot of people take the prologue into account! Sure, Kaitoโs audition tape makes him look like a violence hungry jerk; however, it wouldnโt surprise me if he (and everyone else) was just exaggerating to try and get picked. If you liked a show, and you want to be in it, you wouldnโt say โyeah I find this show cool, killing looks okay on screen but I think it could be fun.โ You wouldnโt get picked (or at least have a lower possibility). They probably acted more like what they thought Team Danganronpa would want for their show.
Anyways, sorry for how long that was (especially considering I donโt make posts like this ever???) but I was replaying V3 earlier and it just occurred to me. Like even Kaede is meaner than Kaito in the prologue (she tells Shuichi to shut up when he starts panicking lmao (she apologizes later tho)). Thatโs not even mentioning Shuichi but this is already long and probably full of punctuation errors lol. Sorry if it got incoherent at all. Iโm very tired.
TL;DR Fanon pregame DRV3 doesnโt usually take into account how the character acted in the prologue and it bothers me.
(Again, if you like to characterize them that way, thatโs fine. Everyone has headcanons and such. Iโm just expressing some of my thoughts :D)
What's with the guys who are assholes in media are always purple, smile almost 24/7 and are associated with circuses๐งโโ๏ธ

KOKICHI?? HELLO??
What's with the insane ass romantic tension in literally every fucking rendition they're in together whaaaat๐คญ๐คญ
So I've noticed that people seem to really misunderstand Maki's dynamic with Kokichi and Korekiyo(separately)...And if anything, People get them confused with each other
The fanon portrayal of Maki and Kokichi's dynamic is that they both hate each other, Kokichi jumps at every chance he has to antagonize her and she hates him enough to jump at any chance to hurt or kill him
The fanon portrayal of Korekiyo and Maki's dynamic is that they're perfectly fine with each other, Especially because of their calm and collected personalities
When it's actually..Kind of completely backwards..
In canon, After Korekiyo finds out Maki's talent; He jumps at any opportunity to antagonize her, Knowing the rules of the game and every other participant protect him from her actually hurting him. And she antagonizes him way more in chapter three even before the murder. He's also blatantly rude to her(Actively ignoring her in conversations and then asking, "Did you say something?" or "Did you hear something?/srs), And Maki is always annoyed with him even being there
Meanwhile in canon with Maki and Kokichi, Even after her talent is revealed she's literally completely fine with him, He antagonizes her for a bit but she is always shown to just not care at all or even at some points responds calmly to him..In chapter 1, She was the only person to agree with him and didn't just assume he was up to no good like literally everyone else did..She only gets more aggressive with him when he says he killed two people for fun and that he was the mastermind. She even felt guilty about killing him even when she still thought he was a remnant of despair(After finding out he wasn't the mastermind)
Am I the only one to find it funny how the fandom got those two dynamics completely confused๐ญ๐ญ
You know, I think Maki actually does feel guilty about Kokichi's death.
Yes, by Ch.5 she absolutely hated him, but it was understandable. He declared himself the mastermind โ person who supposedly kidnapped forced everyone to kill each other. He took Kaito โ the most important person for Maki in this game โ hostage. He mocked Gonta after his death. He told everyone that he enjoyed their suffering, laughing like madman. Throughout all the game, he accused and insulted Maki of being an assassin. And finally, the last straw was the fake memories that he also helped Junko start wars and cause destruction. This all led to her snapping and trying to kill him.
And Maki never enjoyed killing. She was forced to become an assassin and only stayed for the safety and wellbeing of children in the orphanage she grew up in. She really wanted to prove the group. that she could be trusted. She even told this to Kokichi after the 3rd trial.
Yes, at the end of the fifth trial she told Kaito that he shouldn't have agreed to Kokichi's plan and it would have been better for Ouma to just die. But at that moment she was desperate, hurt and scared that Kaito would be executed. Naturally she would be mad at Kokichi.
But in Chapter 6, she was the one who volunteered to search Kokichi's room to find any clues that could help end the game. If she didn't care at all, she would not offer to search there. I think part of her also wanted to find some kind of confirmation that he really was an asshole who absolutely deserved to die. Or, on the contrary, confirmation that he really did try to help them. Just anything to form her own final opinion about him.
And also that moment during the Final Trial when Tsumugi, the real Mastermind, revealed that those memories, that finally pushed her to try to kill him, weren't real. Maki sounds shocked and horrified at that. Because those memories were the reason that pushed her to try to murder him. And if they were fake, that means she did all that for nothing. She broke her unspoken promise to Kaito, and that resulted in Momota and Ouma both dying. And all of it was because of a lie.
It feels to me that she does feel guilty for both Kaito's death and Kokichi's death, because it was her actions that partially led to everything ending that way. I think no matter how she feels about Kokichi, she regrets what she did.
People are sleeping on the sheer possibilities with this ship in any AU and canon, Just sayin'..
Also I didn't change Maki's outfit from canon cause nothing about her really changed, She's still like the same age and occupation in it so it's still perfect๐คทโโ๏ธ
Little fun fact
In the MangaโKaito, Angie, And Kokichi can all be seen with instruments made by Miu
Kaito has a guitar without enough strings to play it, Angie has maracas, Kokichi had a tambourine and microphone
And Ryoma gets handed it briefly but doesn't actually sing
It was like my favorite part of the Manga so I wanted to share that
He'd She'd be powerless without the other Vees!
Can people please fucking comprehend the fact Maki didn't hate Kokichi till he killed two people and Kokichi learned to separate her from her talent because I'm over here sounding like a broken record and it's so annoying
K thx
The trope of a character(Usually Kokichi or Shuichi) "taking down" the Holy Salivation Society and "saving" Maki from it, Is wishful thinking, But canonically impossible Maki has directly said that even if the HHS disbands, She'd just get lofted into another assassin agency. And if she ran away she'd most definitely be killed, And even if she could live after escaping, Maki wouldn't try. Maki's whole reason for being an assassin is to make sure no kid at the orphanage has to replace her and go through the gruesome training she had to Like, I wish Maki didn't have to deal with this shit as much as the next but it's quite literally impossible unless you change her whole backstory to have her never become one in the first place
I've recently been replaying V3 and writing down like every line of diolouge that I see through an important lens(Because I have an unhealthy obsession with this goddamn game and I know like everything about it)
And it really bothers me how like every line of diolouge outside of trials or just any line that isn't fully voiced gets forgotten, Because it leads to so many relationships between the characters being overlooked or mischaracterized to hell and back
The biggest example is Maki and Kokichi's dynamic
Everyone in the fandom says they hate each other without even bothering to listen to each other. That Maki would try to kill him the second he steps into her line of sight. That Maki was always looking for an excuse to kill him
When it's so aggravatingly wrong.
Maki was mad at him for revealing her talent and putting her in harms way(Keep in mind, Before this, Maki thought of him in the exact same light as everyone else) but this only lasts maybe a day or so in canon or just one chapter at most. Because in the post trial of chapter 3...
This scene happens. And you can perfectly see that Maki talks calmly to him and promises HIM to his FACE. That she's going to work till everyone(Which includes him) can trust her And she would NOT say any of that if she hated him You can also tell Kokichi was genuinely surprised by this, You can tell by the sprite he uses(He only ever stops like that when he's surprised or being honest) Because he's perceived Maki as a cold blooded killer who would snap on him(Trying to kill him) by the slightest teasing word.(Which, ironically, Is how a lot of the fandom perceives her) And he perceived her that way because of his belief that murder is the worst thing a person can do(And he automatically sees people who've committed it as heartless killers until proven wrong, Which surprises him because he obviously doesn't see it often) But this perception of her is false and he learns this first hand when she replies calmly to him, Making a promise, and I can't stress this enough, TO HIS FACE she's gonna fix things between them so he can trust her even if she's an assassin Right after this he makes a comment to cover up the fact he was surprised and keep up the mask he's been playing on the whole game, But honestly I feel like his view on Maki has shifted in some way. Because we already know he hates her JOB and maybe this just helped him separate the sin from the sinner(per say) I will not deny Maki hated him in chapter five though, But that's only because he 1. Kidnapped Kaito And 2. Said he was the mastermind(Which Maki believed) But she would've hated anyone if they did that(Even someone like Shuichi) so it really isn't singled out on him. And I will also admit before this, Still in chapter five, she was angry at him and suspicious of him(Because he was now making promises to kill people if stuff didn't get interesting), But, Again. It isn't singled out on him. TLDR: Maki didn't hate Kokichi until she thought he was the mastermind, And Kokichi hated her job but was able to separate her from it
"Be my hands forever stained. By a thousand smears"
"Full of blood and tears..."
Can there be more content of Korekiyo and Maki's rivalry instead of the mischaracterizational Kokichi and Maki rivalry? Like Korekiyo and Maki get on each others nerves SO MUCH MORE than Kokichi gets on either of their nerves and it's so overlooked when their interactions are so funny</3 Like Maki constantly tells Kiyo to cut his occult bullshit to stay on topic and it rattles him to his core, And Korekiyo called her "Such a poor, miserable girl who can't understand love" TO HER FACE They need more fanart or little stories where they argue like they do in canon, IT'S SO FUNNY
So I've decided that for the four days counting up to and on Valentine's day, I'll draw an unpopular Maki ship that I like,,, So if you like any of the ones listed stay tuned๐(I'll link the posts to this one once they're done)
Day 1: Ouharu(Kokichi x Maki)
Day 2: Kiimaki(Kiibo x Maki)
Day 3: Harunaga(Angie x Maki)
Day 4: Harumami(Rantaro x Maki)
Day 5(Valentine's day): Irumaki(Miu x Maki)
Btw the list isn't in a specific order of which I like most, I like them all equally, It's just a random order
And I don't think this is an actual thing people do, I just drew this then came up with the idea to do the rest๐คทโโ๏ธ
I just got Miitopia, And these four are my team
Maki's a warrior
Kokichi's a thief
Angie's a cleric
And Tsumugi's a mage(I don't like Himiko)
I don't think they'd realistically be that good of a team if they were actually in character
Don't mind me, Just here to promote my fanfic that goes more in depth about Miu's death
Kokichi canonically has eye bags I'm pretty sure
In his class trial portrait you can see thin lines under his eye that no other character really seems to have
ITS A LIE!
Heavily influenced by @dailyomadoodles ' art, Go check them out if you haven't already. The Miu art that's also my pfp(Currently) is inspired by their art too, I just couldn't find the account when I posted that
Kokichi(Pretty sure it's him) loves zombies, I like that fact
Some Kokichi with sunglasses for the road?
Is it just my game or does everyone else's have specifically Kokichi call Shuichi; "Kaede" during chapters after the first?
