the confession made her frown, but not because she was upset. there was just so much happening at once, for all of them and the demon couldn't stop any of it. "oh baby, that's a lot to deal with at once. how are you feeling?" gabriela was so grateful that tyler was there. even if he also changed, having her father there must've been a comfort to mariana. they'd seen tyler's change a few times, it took a few years before he felt comfortable enough. she would've waited forever because being there for that felt special. he allowed her into such a personal space and it made her love him even more. "if you want i can be there next time."
The young Mariana Lockwood decided to sit up a little as she listened to her mother. "I'm safe now, Momma, but there's something I need to tell you," she admitted, nervously fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. She wanted to confess to the older woman that she had turned, but she wasn't sure how her mother would react. “It's okay, Momma, really it is," Mariana said, trying to reassure herself as she braced for her mother's response. "I-I had to turn, I-I'm a werewolf. Papa saw me turn," she finally confessed, looking down, frightened of her mother's reaction.
gabriela didn't let go of mariana, keeping the girl in a tight embrace as tears rolled down the demons cheeks. all of the information was flooding her senses and none of it made her feel any better. for kaya to fix an injury like that, well that meant that she used her demonic powers, something that gabi understood, but felt as if something special had been snatched right out of her hands. raymis wasn't family and yet here he was making decisions as if he was always at the head of the table, typical. their fingers ran through their daughters hair softly, wanting to only provide comfort and nothing more. there would time for the difficult emotions, but right now all she felt was love. "i don't know what i would've done had he hurt you anymore than he already has. i'm so sorry, i didn't ever think he could come back but i should've at least had a back up plan."
If there was someone Marina missed dearly, it was her parents, especially her mother. Although she loved both her parents, she always felt a stronger connection to her mother. When Marina finally calmed down and realized it was her mother, she quickly embraced her in a tight hug. "It's okay, Momma," Marina reassured her mother, nodding as she listened to her speak. "I was scared, but I'm okay now. Kaya and Dad found me," she continued, her voice tinged with relief. "My leg is much better now; Kaya fixed me," Marina added excitedly, eager to share the news with her mother. As she held onto her mother, a sense of safety washed over her, and she whispered, "Don't let me go, Momma," holding onto the older woman tightly.
guilt swelled in the demon's chest as she began walking towards mariana. gabriela hadn't made it to the rescue, instead she went on a search for any of raymis's weaknesses. there were a few decent leads but they would've rather been there to rescue their daughter. shaking her head, she took let out a deep sigh. all of this was her fault even if kaya felt differently, it was gabi who struck the relationship with someone filled with so much anger and violence, but it wasn't like she had been in the right mindset at the time. meeting raymis happened to be the spark that lit the powder keg of dark energy being released from the new demon. that energy was something she tried keep from her kids, not to keep them in ignorance but simply because she was scared of looking like a monster. because well she had done some monstrous things, killed people and sent their souls to eternal damnation. no matter how much therapy and time passed, it was something that would never leave her.
gabi had done her best to not startle mariana but of course she was jumpy, the two hadn't yet spoken about what raymis did to her. "sorry baby, i didn't mean to, i just..." stumbling over their words, the demon decided to just take a seat near the peaceful lake. closing her eyes, she took a deep breath, doing everything in her power to allow the gentle noises to provide relief. "i'm just checking on you, i'm sorry i wasn't there to get you. i was trying to figure out how to make sure that bastard can never touch any of us again."
Marina sat by the tranquil lake in the park, seeking solace and trying to calm her mind from the recent events that had left her feeling unsettled. With her back turned to the water, she focused on the gentle ripples and the peaceful surroundings, willing herself to relax.
Suddenly, she felt a tap on her shoulder, causing her to spin around in horror, a gasp escaping her lips as she jumped out of her skin. Her eyes widened in surprise as she laid eyes on the figure before her, a mixture of fright and curiosity evident in her expression.
"I-I'm sorry, d-did you need something?" Marina stammered, her words faltering as she struggled to compose herself, her gaze meeting the person who had interrupted her moment of solitude by the lake.
