Thinking about the Blue-Red symbolism surrounding SatoSugu

I've been thinking about this shot for a while. At first it didn't make sense to me, why Gojo was in the red and Geto was in the blue, I thought it should've been the opposite but after seeing some others talk about it, I think it makes a lot of sense.

Thinking About The Blue-Red Symbolism Surrounding SatoSugu

Because of Gojo's powers and how it directly relates into this. At the near end of Hidden Inventory, Gojo and Geto are spending less time together, Gojo is going out on missions alone, he is training and refining his techniques multiple times over and is leaving little to no room for friends. He's essentially isolating himself from others to be able to become strong enough to go on as many missions as possible. He's pushing people away, like how his ability Red repels. Thus, Gojo is in red, like his ability, pushing away those around him.

Geto on the other hand is in the blue, by the near end of Hidden Inventory, he is depressed and consistently consuming curses. I think Gege was great at showing his depression, Geto’s got heavy eye bags, like he either can’t sleep or sleeps too much. He hunches over, resting on his knees like sitting up straight is just too much work. When someone talks to him, he blinks slowly and takes a beat too long to respond, like even that takes more energy than he has. And like Gojo said, he was losing weight, meaning he was eating less. Like Gojo's ability blue, which attracts, he is absorbing curses, wallowing in his negative thoughts and feelings to the point he developed a hatred for most of humanity. He's pulling in all the negativity into himself just as how blue attracts.

And it also fits in nicely with the openings of season 2. Ao no Sumika (Where Our Blue is) is imo showing that they were together and happy. Where Our Blue is, in this case would also translate to Where Our Attraction is because Gojo's blue is pulling and attracting. The title to me means "Where we're together" for them. The rest of the opening is mostly blue as well, emphasizing it further. The second opening of season 2, is mostly red, and akin to reversal red presents a push. Gojo and Geto are no longer united anymore, they stand against each other.

Also these two frames put that nicely.

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)
AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

!longassrant

In part one, I'll discuss a few things regarding symbolism and metaphors surrounding the two and how they complement each other. As much as I loathe Akutami, I do admire their symbolism surrounding the cast of JJK.

BLACK AND WHITE, LIGHT AND DARK

I feel like this is a prominent thing in the SatoSugu shippers to associate SatoSugu with black and white, myself included. Whenever I see black and white, I get SatoSugu PTSD. This is really what my life has come to, LOL.

Let's put Satoru as the Light and Suguru as the Dark. ( This is something I love because of how light and dark exist. One cannot be without the other, yet when light is present — dark cannot be. And when dark is present, light cannot be. Sound familiar? Yep, it's them.

We know they both probably wanted to be together but their ideals set them apart. Dark will always exist opposite to Light, and Light would always exist opposite to Dark. But they cannot be defined without each other.

And it does align with what they do become because Satoru became the Light of Jujutsu Society, they had hope because of him. When Satoru enters the scene to save the day, sorcerers are relieved, sorcerer feel safe. When he got sealed, everything fell apart, it just shows how much Jujutsu Society relied on him and trusted him to resolve everything. He taught the new generation of sorcerers, he guided them towards a new future, like a sort of guiding light.

Suguru on the other hand, he consumed the worst in the world, curses. He was confronted by the vile taste of curses every time he consumes one and after Riko Amanai's death, he was faced with the cruelty of the system, the darkness of the world. He despised the likes of people like Toji who are willing to assassinate an innocent teenage girl purely just for money. And, Toji didn't even need to kill Riko, he heard them talk, Riko wasn't even going to become Tengen's new vessel.

The whole experience with Toji changed the duo, but for Suguru, it hurt that he fought with everything he had to avenge Satoru but was left there barely living as a failure only to find his best friend completely changed to the point where he was going to kill all of the humans who were applauding them. Although he convinced Satoru they should be spared, I don't think Suguru himself thinks they deserve to live. The applauds haunted him, I'm sure he was utterly disgusted a room of adults were celebrating the death of an innocent, young girl.

The scene with depressed Suguru, we hear rain outside but if you listen carefully, they sound more like claps, like the ones he has heard back with the Cult. (also, it's funny to me that he started his own cult after being traumatised by one.)

Suguru genuinely wanted to create a world for the weak but after what happened, it's safe to say he stopped considering non-sorcerers as the weak. He already had a theory that sorcerers weren't the problem but non-sorcerers and that mindset drove Suguru mad, paired with the curses he consumes which are manifestations of the negative parts of humanity. The only way for Suguru to move forward with his life is to eradicate all non-sorcerers. He refused the other path because to him to choose non-sorcerers at this point would be to accept more people like Toji, the people in Star Religious Group and the people in the village who threatened Mimiko and Nanako.

Wow, there's a lot for Suguru's part, haha.

Black and White, Light and Dark— or whatever similar. They fit. I could compare them to Yin and Yang, but I don't fully understand its meaning so, I won't.

CURSED TECHNIQUES

I also love what their cursed techniques represent in each other. And how it ties into the story.

Suguru's cursed technique manipulates cursed spirits after consuming them. Consume, which is the first thing we see him doing in the opening of Hidden Inventory. He's a consumptive force, because he consumes the responsibility of protecting the weak.

Satoru on the other hand, repels. He's an outward force, extending out a physical barrier that creates distance between his body and the world. The Infinity and Reversal Red that repels and disconnects him from the people around him. Satoru repelled the idea of protecting the weak, actively discarding them during HI's basketball scene.

Can I point out how the scene after Star Religious group makes sense now? Blue attracts, it's a consumptive force, Suguru leaned into it. Red repels, Satoru stepped into red. It just really enhances their characters further…ah, remind me how much I love this animanga.

Satoru focused on becoming the Strongest and rejected everything else. Suguru consumed the negative emotions and trauma, leading him to go mad to the point killing all non-sorcerers could be the only way he could live with himself.

They're really meant to be together because consumption can only exist if there's a repellant force pushing back. They're not opposites, I will say. Both Satoru and Suguru contain parts of each other within each other. Sort of like Yin and Yang, but again I don't fully understand Yin and Yang enough to do a full analysis of them associating with Yin and Yang.

I think I will conclude the cursed technique analysis here because trying to understand cursed techniques in JJK…it burns my brain. Especially with those powerscalers.

"You're Late, ..."

This was done multiple time for them, and ugh it pains me.

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)
AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

Yup, this one right here, this motif foreshadows the tragedy of Satoru and Suguru's love story.

We see Suguru running through the rain urgently. He so desperately needs an umbrella. Satoru? Well, you can see he's wasting time looking at a cat...he's not hurrying at all. But he has what Suguru needs, an umbrella. Well, Satoru didn't even need an umbrella.

Suguru is waiting impatiently in the rain, and he's not using his bag to cover up his head anymore. He knows Satoru is coming; that's why he's impatient.

Suguru needs him, but Satoru doesn’t pick up the pace.

By the time he finally shows up, the sun has come out. By then Suguru has accepted the fact that Satoru took too long. They can’t share the umbrella any more because they missed their chance to use it.

“You’re late, Satoru.”

And you all know what follows up...

Also a little bonus:

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

Those are osmanthuses.

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)
AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

The name Osmanthus comes from the Greek language, Osma(fragrant) and Anthos(flower), literally meaning Fragrant Flower. Osmanthus flowers are a symbol of love and romance, blooming for only a few days in the Spring, and are celebrated during wedding ceremonies and the Chinese Moon Festival in August

The animators shipped them, you cannot convince me otherwise.

This was supposed to be longer, and I do want to continue it but again, I'm tired to continue. Kind of lost motivation and my initial ideas poofed already.

Akuji out!

Hollow break in my chest

It floats disconnected

The ribs, the cage for my heart

They have been failures

I had a best friend

The only one

The blood rushed through my heart

Cracked my ribs open

The floating cage

An open heart

The sun shined on us

I smile when you laugh

I laugh when you dance

It's like this

My heart floats in the blood you soaked

Your blood flows through mine

It keeps me alive

I had a best friend

You made me smile

It's a husk,

Broken ribs

Dried red

You are the only one

I didn't see

You drowned in red

Broken ribs

Floating lungs

You drowned in red

A hollow hole

I keep it for you

Trade a heart for the cold

Come back home.

fandom: Jujutsu Kaisen

characters: Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto

warnings and summary: angst, no comfort, depression • gojo misses geto, even if he's right in front of him

masterlist

Blink.

"Satoru?"

Nod.

"Good morning, Satoru."

Wave.

"Hey, Satoru!"

Smile.

"Gojo."

Stare.

He stared for the longest time.

Blink.

Who called his name again? Oh. Right. His best friend, or what was left of him anyways.

"You okay?"

He should be asking the same thing. He wasn't the one locking himself in his dorm all day.

"Ahem, I asked a question."

His senses finally came back, and suddenly he was in pain.

When did he turn Infinity off?

He groaned, slowly getting to his feet. Though he wished he hadn't. It was like God, if he were real, was after the boy.

Beautiful silky hair draped across the other man's shoulders, purple eyes staring at him with landscapes in them, a simple sweater that hugged him just right, and those precious plump lips. He looked ethereal, no matter what state he was in. He always has looked ethereal.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Are you sure?"

No.

"Yeah."

He wasnt. He just wanted to give people what they wanted.

That was all he was meant to do.

He wished someday the Suguru he loved would come back, run up to him, and hold him for the longest time.

Like they were kids.

Like they were together.

Like they belonged to each other.

Like it was just them in the entire world.

But Satoru could yearn for now. He's done it since he was a kid. And for Suguru, he would wait centuries.

He would spend a lifetime to get his Suguru back.

Happy Easter!

bunny!gojo x bunny!geto x gn!reader<3

my nephew wrote "i ♡ uncle sunny" on one of his eggs with a crayon and gave it to me, love ya too kiddo :)

masterlist

• What you were not expecting to be at your dorm room door at 3 AM was your best friends Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto to have bunny ears

• Suguru's ears were a similar color to his hair, around 6 inches tall but folded out of embarrassment

• Satoru's perked up more, happy to see you. They had a few light blue streaks but mostly blue. They were a few centimeters taller than Suguru's

• "It was a uh, a curse." Suguru gulps

• What kinda curse had that power?

• Reluctantly, you let them on and pay the spot next to you in your bed

• Satoru immediately cuddles up to your hips, his puffy tail happily twitching violently. Suguru was a little bit more timid, but found a comfortable spot on your chest to lay his head

• "Thanks for lettin' us in, sweets!" Satoru smiled up at you

• "Thank you too, Y/N. It's embarrassing for you to see us like this, but we knew we could trust you." Suguru leans into you more

• aka now your smothered by two grown men who think they have a right to act small just because they have ears and a tail

• Your hand treads through Satoru's hair, scratches his ears, which earns you an excited yip!

• awww

• You smile and nuzzle your head to the side, softly rubbing his ears with your head since Satoru demanded you use both hands to pet him

• A few minutes later, Suguru grabs your remote and turns something random on youtube to watch. Satoru takes it as his signal to scoot up so he's laying next to you in the same position as Suguru is

• Both boys mutter a tiny "I love you" before closing their eyes, their heads tucked under your chin and their ears providing pillows for your cheeks

thank god for imagination and hybrid satosugu

Brain And Brawn

fandom: Jujutsu Kaisen

characters: Bully!Suguru Geto and Nerd!Satoru Gojo (no curses au)

warnings: name-calling, teasing, but that's mostly it

Brain And Brawn

"Suguru, did you know that Jupiter was a failed star?"

His boyfriend wasn't even paying attention, only staring at the blue-eyed beauty in front of him. He nodded acknowledgingly though.

"It's so interesting! Apparently it didn't have enough mass to actually form into a star! Which is weird because it's one of our biggest planets. Did you also know that-"

Suguru nodded again as Satoru blabbered on. It was the most he could do while being in front of such a gorgeous being.

"-Are you actually listening?"

"Uh huh. Sounds wonderful, sweetheart."

"... Then tell me what I just said."

"Uh, some nerdy shit."

"Hey! 'M not a nerd."

"Mhm. Sure, smartie."

Suguru chuckled at Satoru's pouting and gave him a kiss on the cheek as an apology. Satoru happily reciprocated by giving Suguru a peck back.

"By the way, I saw that your grades are dropping again, Sugu."

"Whatever, Mr. Straight-A's."

"I'm just tryna help you, dumbass."

"Then help me, smartass."

Satoru opened the younger's backpack, taking his school computer out.

"How about... I give you a kiss for every question you get right?"

"I'd rather be teasing some weaklings at our school."

"Wow. I feel so loved. No more kisses for you, I guess."

"I was just kidding! I would choose you over any weakling!"

They didn't stay on task for long.

The night ended with Satoru laying in Suguru's lap on the black-haired student's bed.

"The principal's gonna hand our asses to us if I don't go back to my dorm, Sugu."

"Too bad. I'm the most feared in the school, so he'll have to go through me first."

Satoru smiled, shifting his body so he could rest the side of his head on Suguru's chest. Suguru held Satoru's hand in exchange, letting the smarter sleepily play with his fingers.

"A few more hours."

"How many?"

"My phone says three."

"Ughh! Fine..."

"You're gonna throw up if you keep eating those gummy bears, Satoru. I know about your car sickness."

"So boring. I might just die if you keep boring me."

A hand pats Gojo's head.

"I love you, my whiny baby."

"Hey! I'm not whiny!"

"Mhm..."

A hand pats Suguru's head in return.

"I love you too, my little ball swallower~"

"Please keep it PG."

Merman!Gojo x Geto drabble (no curses au?)

(they can choke me❤️❤️ respectfully)

Merman!Gojo, who finds Geto washed up on his shoreline, his territory.

Merman!Gojo, who wipes the hair away from the front of Geto's head and blushes when the mesmerizing face of the man beneath him is revealed.

Merman!Gojo, who is captured by the beauty of the human he found, he tried his best to memorize the pretty boy's face.

Merman!Gojo, who decides that the male is too damn gorgeous to kill, he would also decide to forgive the man for trespassing.

Merman!Gojo, who tries to wake the human up, pressing to his chest and transmitting his own oxygen into Geto's mouth how Mama taught him to. He always respected how she tried to to save any creatures that were swept by the current unwillingly.

-

Geto, who gasps heavily for air when he is awoken. He didn't expect piercing blue eyes to be staring him down.

Geto, who looks down and freaks out when he sees a tail instead of another pair of human legs.

"Who- what the fuck are you?!"

Geto, who later learns he's stranded. The creature had been with him the whole time as he panicked, and when he slowly calmed down.

Geto, who built a home for himself after a few months of being on the island. He hunted for himself and luckily there were lots of resources.

-

Merman!Gojo, who merely undestood anything Geto said to him. But after a few weeks, Geto decided to teach him English.

Merman!Gojo, who would receive gifts from Geto and would be taught the name of said items. One day, he brought something named a strawberry. Merman!Gojo smiled, and to the stranded man's surprise, he licked the strawberry off of his hand rather than taking it with his own.

Geto couldn't sleep that night.

-

Merman!Gojo, who asked Geto what 'love' meant when the younger had referred his to the beach.

"Well... It's something you adore a lot. Something you would trade the world for."

"Oh! I love you, Suguru!"

"I love you too, Satoru."

Because they would trade the world for each other. And Gojo adored Suguru the moment his eyes caught the sight of the human's face.

You're Perfectly Perfect For Me

fandom: Jujutsu Kaisen

characters: Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto

warnings: angst (to comfort), hinted depression?? maybe idk, mentons of past hallucinations, panic attacks, insomnia, lonely gojo, fluff at the end!<3

title inspired by IFHY - Tyler, the Creator

You're Perfectly Perfect For Me

Satoru Gojo was tired.

No, tired was an understatement.

Satoru Gojo was completely exhausted.

It had been four years since Suguru left. Satoru knew it was wrong to still love the man that massacred an entire village, yet he found himself craving the affection he used to receive from the raven-haired man. He cried at night, holding onto whatever article of clothing Suguru let him 'borrow' (Satoru refused to give them back) and trying to inhale whatever scent was still there. Tonight was no different. Droplets of water splayed across Satoru's pale face, a sweatshirt held tight to his chest that had Suguru's name on the tag, and the sobbing of the strongest man could be heard from a mile away.

How was he strong if he cried this much?

He felt weak under Suguru Geto's influence.

-

"Satoru," and the honored one's lip trembled. "Let me help you."

February was Satoru's favorite month. He liked how alive everything looked, and the name itself sounded pretty to him. But what he wouldn't admit was that the true reason he loved it was because it was Suguru's birth month.

"I'm fine. I'm the strongest, remember?"

The ravenette sighed.

"You're upset. Don't lie to me, Gojo."

And for a second, Gojo wasn't the strongest.

"We're back to a last name basis, huh? Silly Sugu~ I don't know what I'm gonna do with ya!"

February 2. That was the day before Suguru's birthday. The day they had this conversation.

"Stop acting like everything is sunshine and rainbows. Talk to me, Gojo. That's all I need."

Satoru changed his favorite month later that day.

-

It was Wednesday, which meant Satoru had to go shopping.

He despised shopping, there always were too many people.

(But he couldn't pretend that he doesn't love the attention he gets from every woman around him.)

As he lazily pushed around a cart that was filled mostly with stuff he didn't need, he stopped.

A firm grip on his shoulder shocked him.

"Satoru."

Oh, how he hated that he knew that voice.

-

"Satoru, slow down. You're gonna get a brain freeze."

The boy in question simply laughed.

"Don't worry, Suguru! I'm the strongest!~ A little brain freeze isn't gonna- oh-"

Satoru wrapped his hands around his head in pain, slamming his face onto the table they were sitting at.

"Ow! Ngh- Suguru! Make it stooooppp!"

"..dumbass..."

A second later, the teen with silver hair was wrapped in the younger's arms. The shorter whispered sweet nothings and reassurances into the taller's ear.

Satoru loved his best friend's voice. If this wasn't heaven, he wasn't sure what was.

-

"Geto."

Saying the man's name made Satoru feel miserable.

A wound he tried so hard to close had re-opened.

"Geto, you... No."

Suguru- if it even was him- tilted his head.

"Satoru, it's me."

"Don't call me that."

The cursed user's eyes widened. His hand backed away from the shoulder it rested on.

"Y-You're not real," tears escape from Satoru's beautiful eyes. "You're just another fuckin' hallucination."

"I'm real, Sato- Gojo."

"No. I'm tired of this."

The younger one's breaths were noticably getting heavier. Suguru knew what was happening all too well

"Gojo, let me help you calm down."

"Don't come near me."

"I'm not taking no as an answer."

Before Satoru could move, Suguru hooked his arms underneath him and held him firmly to his chest.

"Breathe for me, Satoru."

-

It had been a month since they had reunited.

Suguru tried his best to be there for his past friend, though it felt foreign to both him and Satoru.

He hated how Satoru first flinched whenever he touched him, he always looked ready to burst into tears as well.

But Satoru got used to it, eventually, and found himself leaning into Suguru's warmth.

-

"Good morning, Satoru."

A soft groan erupted from the boy who had been woken up.

"...mornin', Sugu...."

Purple eyes closed as a certain sorcerer shoved his face into the smaller's chest. It no longer was uncomfortable or weird to them.

It felt like home.

And Suguru would be staying home forever, he decided.

-

"Sato? Baby?"

Suguru frowned at the empty mattress that sat neatly before him.

A small giggle could be heard.

Suguru shook his head disapprovingly.

"Satoru, I will choke you if you are hiding under the bed again."

Another giggle. Suguru swept down onto the floor, looking under their shared bed. No sign of his best fri- lover.

Oh, right. I forgot to mention that they got together.

Suguru frowned.

"Sato- ah!-"

Two bodies thud against the floor.

"Gotcha!~"

Suguru gets attacked with kisses and pecks on the face, causing a protest himself.

"Satoru, stop! Where the hell were you even hiding?!"

"In the closet, hehe~ And I'm afraid I won't stop!"

This continues for a few more minutes before the Limitless user gets tired. Suguru pats his head with a small smile plastered on his face.

"You scare me when you hide like that. It makes me think you're the one leaving this time."

"Whaaaaatt? How could I ever leave my Sugu boo?"

"Please don't call me that."

"Ugh, fine."

And they stayed like that for a long time, making up time they lost so many years ago.

"Satoru-"

"Suguru-"

"-I think you're perfect for me."

What if Gojo killed the Star Religious group?

A small drabble I wrote on the short and immediate aftermath of the Hidden Inventory arc. I always wondered what would happen if Gojo decided to kill all of those people. And what would happen to Suguru as a result?

It’s rather short, I wrote it a few years ago and posted it on Ao3. I’ve fixed it with some edits and improvements. Contains a Suguru who doesn’t quite understand his feelings for Satoru- but he has them anyway.

Tags

-angst -unspoken feelings -the idiots are emotionally stunted -suguru wasn't there -suguru pov -trauma -there is no happy ending but it's not a sad one either -our blue still lives -youth, ah youth -denial

Here it is; enjoy :)

Cup Noodles

All things considered, maybe Suguru would’ve rather found Satoru dead.

If he really thought about it, maybe it would’ve made more sense to Suguru if he had bid his final farewell to a corpse. To mourn Satoru at his grave and curse the elders for letting another teenager die. But of course, Satoru could not confine himself to tradition, nor the mere concept of normal.

Non-standard, perhaps, and yet so predictable in his unpredictability.

Satoru had gone and massacred the entire Star Religious Group after Amanai had been killed. Satoru, in all of his power, had decidedly made a mess of the entire affair. Both metaphorically, and literally. Mangled corpses littered across the grounds, the walls of the building left in tact, if not for the cracks caused by the bodies thrown across them, and the gore left in their crevices. Suguru knew that Satoru could be clean with his technique. He could be fast too, eviscerate them all in a splatter, leave nothing but a pool of blood in his wake. Instead, he tortured them. Slowly, and deliberately. And judging by the fact that all of their faces had been left in tact, frozen in looks of horror and fear, Suguru could see the warning Satoru left behind.

This was personal.

Obviously, Suguru didn’t believe it. He didn’t want to. But also, it made sense, of course Satoru would just go ahead and do that. Despite that assassin telling him that he had managed to kill Satoru, shortly after shooting Amanai dead in front of him, of course Satoru had gone and risen from the dead with a revenge. He bets that man had died too, probably torn to shreds by Satoru himself. What a fool for even considering that Satoru had died- The voice in Suguru’s head grabs himself by the shoulders and repeats the sentence like a curse.

Nobody could kill Gojo Satoru.

“By law of Jujutsu Society, Special-Grade Curse User Gojo Satoru is now to be executed on-sight, for the murder of over 50 non-sorcerers.”

Suguru scoffs at the mere thought of it.

Nobody could kill Gojo Satoru.

Amongst the chaos of it all, Shoko still finds time to pull out a cigarette and smoke it, sitting on the edge of the engawa. She somehow knows Suguru stands behind her, because she comments on the situation in a way that could only be directed at Suguru.

“Looks like you’re their new golden boy.”

Suguru’s ears begin to ring. He can’t find it in him to respond. Shoko fills the silence for both of them.

“Issuing an execution, huh? You and I both know that’s not possible.”

Shoko takes another drag, then turns to meet Suguru’s numb expression. She tosses her cigarette, stomps on it, and walks past Suguru.

“Say hi to him for me, will ya?”

Amongst all… this, amongst all the corpses and curses and suffocating elders, something dies alongside it, and as Suguru truly begins to realise the true weight of the situation, he can only cradle it and watch quietly as life slips from it and fades away.

He and Satoru were doomed from the start, weren’t they?

-

Suguru had received the text at 3:32 am. Suguru was still awake, at that point. Not like he ever slept any earlier on a normal night, anyway. Satoru had shut his phone off (as evidenced by the lack of response to calls or messages), but Suguru assumed he turned it back on to send him the message.

Suguru had two options.

One- Rat him out, show it to the elders and maybe settle this all for good, maybe they could all die trying to kill the strongest.

The other, throw on a hoodie and head for the nearest train station.

Suguru carefully turns the knob on Satoru’s dorm, packs an extra set of clothes and heads off, with extra cash in case they find an open convenience store. He takes care not to use any cursed energy on the way to the address Satoru sent him, lest someone decides to track him down.

As footsteps stomp on gravel, Suguru swallows the building bile in his throat, and ignores the growing ache in his heart. It all builds, it swirls and it rings, and Suguru feels drowned in that taste of vomit-rag. He could not throw up a curse, but it damn well felt like he would.

He realises he forgot to bring a hair tie. He couldn’t quite care to turn back to get one.

Gravel turns to pavement, and his feet hit the road.

At least, his goodbye would be on his own terms.

-

“You’re early.”

Suguru glares at Satoru, the lack of bloodstains adorning him unnerving. A constant reminder of the infinite space between them. And for the first time since they had met, Suguru genuinely considers Satoru as somebody untouchable.

“I guess I brought extra clothes for nothing.”

“Nah, I’ll still need them. Thanks for showing up.”

“…Yeah.”

Suguru sighs, tossing Satoru the backpack and sitting down at a table outside of the convenience store. Satoru opts for changing in the washroom inside, leaving Suguru alone with his thoughts. He then decides he doesn’t like his thoughts, so he wanders inside and buys two cup ramens for them, extra spicy, just because he can.

He tears the packets and pours them over the solid noodles, making sure each packet ends up empty. He fills them with hot water from the dispenser at front, carefully filling the water to the line. He brings them out to the table, setting their chopsticks on the lids to let the noodles cook.

He looks at the watch in the store- 4:06 am. The worker is playing on a DS behind the counter. Suguru lets himself become absorbed in the tedium, the faint sounds of beeps. Because otherwise he might just punch something.

Satoru eventually walks out of the washroom, new clothes on with the backpack thrown over his shoulder. He smiles at the sight of the ramen, then proceeds to sit down in front of a cup, and as a result, in front of Suguru.

“Mind if I keep the bag?”

“Yeah, I’ll just use yours back at the dorms.”

“Got it. Are the noodles cooked yet?”

“A few more minutes.”

“Ah. Wow, extra spicy?”

“Why? Can’t handle it?”

“Oh, shut up.”

It’s easy, Suguru thinks to himself. It’s so easy for them to just talk like this. To act like nothing’s wrong. To share a meal and throw jokes at each other. Satoru smiles, and for a moment, there really is nothing wrong in the world. It’s just them, Satoru and Suguru eating cup noodles at 4am at some convenience store.

Suguru decides to let himself pretend they’re just two normal teenagers, nothing more, and nothing less.

4:11 am.

“Ah, the noodles should be ready now.”

“Great.”

The two rip apart their chopsticks, and peel off the lids. Suguru liked to keep his on, open just enough to be able to access the whole cup. Satoru straight up peeled his clean off. They begin eating.

It’s just them, Suguru thinks. It’s nobody but them.

But it’s never been about just them, has it? It never was.

At least, it shouldn’t have been.

“Why’d you send me a text with your exact location? You know I could’ve come here just to execute you.”

“Well, I trust you.”

Satoru slurps his noodles, and Suguru stares at his.

“After all that, I’m not so sure I can even consider trusting, anymore.”

Satoru is still wearing his shades, but Suguru can feel his piercing gaze. Suguru looks back, and knows without a doubt they lock eyes.

“Did you have a reason?”

“No, not really.” Satoru answers, in the most casual way in the world.

Suguru clutches his chopsticks in a fist.

“Well? Was it worth it?”

“You tell me.” Satoru sits up. “Have they changed at all, back there?”

They’re panicked out of their minds. Suguru scoffs.

“You know they’ll hunt you down.”

“And you know if they do manage to find me-”

“Yeah. The strongest bullshit. Whatever.”

“…Exactly,” Satoru scoffs.

Suguru slowly eats more of his noodles, letting the spice burn on his tongue and sting his eyes.

“I… I want to tell you that we have to protect the weak. You know that as much as I do, no matter how much bullshit you spew about not believing in it.”

It’s just the spice. The ramen is spicy. That’s all.

“If I had arrived there, any earlier… would you still have done it?”

Satoru smiles. “Only if you told me to.”

Suguru swallows the noodles.

“I feel like a hypocrite.”

“Really.”

“You killed them… but I would’ve done the same, wouldn’t I? No matter how wrong it is… I just can’t stand those…”

The echo of a voice, a man standing above him. Was he unconscious? Was he dying? He felt a foot to his face, arrogance in spades. You were both beaten by a monkey like me who can’t even use Jujutsu.

“…Monkeys.”

Satoru offers no reply. Suguru lets his hair fall across his face, obscuring whatever look he might have on his face. Although, Suguru doesn’t know if he’s hiding from Satoru’s face, or hiding his own expression.

“After all they’ve done… How could anyone let them live?”

“Well, I didn’t.”

Suguru pauses, then laughs. He laughs and he cackles and he laughs. He looks at Satoru and everything becomes right. Satoru isn’t laughing though, but the humour is shared when he smiles back. Suguru must be going hysterical. He’s laughing and Satoru isn’t. What kind of world have they come to?

“I hate you.”

“You love me,” Satoru retorts.

“Shut the fuck up.”

For a moment, Suguru dares to feel the swirling in his chest. To dip his toes in and test the temperature. It’s surprisingly warm, almost unsettlingly so.

He’ll leave it be, for now. It’s something he doesn’t have the time to unpack. There are many, many more things that he should be worried about right now.

“Y’know, Suguru…”

“Hm?”

“…”

“Satoru?”

“Nothing, I just- I want you to know that… we’re still the same, yeah? I mean, you can come and hunt me down and try to kill me all you want or whatever, but to me, we’ll still be the same. Always. You’ll still be my… one and only, y’know?”

Suguru chuckles. “One and only? Cheesy shit, dude.”

“I’m being serious. You’re-“

“I know, I’m joking. We’re- we’re fine. Yeah. We’re fine.”

“Good… good.”

“Yeah.”

They finish up the last of their ramen, and it’s 5:24 am. The sun hasn’t risen yet, but the summer days last long, and the beginnings of dusk paint the sky in a dark blue.

Satoru stands up first, throwing the backpack over his shoulder, and tossing Suguru his phone.

“Keep it.”

“I get that you can’t keep it on you because of, well, tracking, but do I have to keep it?”

“Yeah. I’ve taken the sim out, so don’t worry. But there’s like, a whole album of videos and shit. Look at them if you’re bored, or whatever. I know there’s some pretty good music on there too.”

“You won’t miss it?”

“Nah. I’ll get a new phone. Besides, not like this is the last time we’ll ever see each other.”

Suguru shoots out of his seat.

“Wait, what are you planning to do anyway?”

“Well, it’s not like I’m being hunted by the police, and the government can deploy all the SWAT they want and they know it’s not enough to kill me. Let them sort it out. By the end, all I’ll get is a bounty placed on my head, and a legacy as the Jujutsu world’s boogeyman.” Satoru waves his arms around dramatically as he begins cleaning up his mess of a ramen cup.

“You’re not explaining anything.”

Satoru crumples the ramen cup in his hands. There’s a pause, and then, there’s Satoru’s angry voice. Except, it’s a different type of anger. A kind that Suguru hasn’t heard in his voice before. “I don’t, fucking, know, Suguru. I don’t fucking know. But that doesn’t mean I’m gonna say fuck all and hand myself in. I’ll figure it out, eventually. And you’re gonna be told to go and find me, and you’re gonna be told to kill me. And every single time, you’re gonna fail, and we’ll keep meeting anyway.”

Suguru lets out an exasperated sigh. So much for preparing to bid farewell.

“Don’t go too far, yeah?”

“Don’t worry. I don’t think I can anyway.”

They throw out their ramen cups, and begin walking to the train station. It’s a silent walk, and Suguru absorbs every step they take, every moment they spend. The grey of the pavement, the dark blue of the night sky shifting into something purple. The sun is rising. Satoru walks next to him, the sound of his feet hitting the ground as a small reassurance that he’s still there- that his barrier wasn’t up. And Suguru realizes, Satoru is pretending too. That they’re two, normal people. On a very normal walk, on a very normal morning.

So Suguru takes it in- this normalcy. And he clings to it, tighter than he ever has before. And as they pass through the entrance gates of the train station, Satoru stops walking. He’s headed in a different direction, opposite to where Suguru needs to go.

This is it.

“So. See you later, then?”

Satoru grins. That stupid, shit-eating grin that Suguru hates.

No, he loathes it.

Suguru grins back. “Yeah. See you. Oh, and Shoko says hi.”

“Tell her I said hi back.”

“Yup… Satoru?”

“Yeah?”

Suguru doesn’t quite know what to do. He hasn’t said many goodbyes, and with the ones he has, he hugged them and promised not to die. He doesn’t exactly miss his parents though, not like he knows he will with Satoru.

He’s gonna fucking miss Satoru. Like a damn lot. A fucking ton.

It’s not like he’ll ever admit that though.

“Nothing. You’re just stupid.”

“You’re so mean to me, Suguru.”

“You deserve it.”

The silence rings between them one last time, and Suguru drinks it all in. The white of Satoru’s soft hair, the pale glow of his skin, the line of his jaw and the shapes of his build, the faint blue that peeks through his shades. He drinks in Satoru, in perhaps, the last glance he will take at him as just two, normal teenagers.

And Satoru stands there, as if waiting. And Suguru realizes, Satoru won’t go unless Suguru lets him.

Suguru swallows the vomit-rag taste in his throat.

“Until next time, then.”

“Mhm!”

They don’t hug. They don’t shake hands. Not even a high-five. Satoru just nods, smiles that stupid smile of his, and turns on his heel. As he walks away, Suguru no longer hears his footsteps. So Suguru does the same. Turns on his heel, and walks away. Miraculously, his train arrives at the platform the moment he looks at it. He boards it, and doesn’t look back.

Who knows what he would’ve done if he ever decided to look back.

-

6:02 am is when Suguru steps foot back into Jujutsu High. He knows nobody is awake with the lack of response as he steps through the barrier, and heads back to the dorms. And for the first time, in all of 48 hours, Suguru feels the heart-crushing weight of absence.

Satoru was no longer someone by his side.

This sinks in, as he walks into the dorms and there is no obnoxious chatter following him. Yet despite this, Satoru overwhelms his life like vines overgrown on a home old enough to have leaks.

He steps back into his own room, and Satoru lives in the place. The scratch on the wall from that time they had gotten into a fight while playing Super Mario Bros. The way the curtains were always closed because Satoru’s eyes were sensitive to too much light. A pack of hair ties Satoru bought for Suguru as an apology for said Mario Bros fight.

One of Satoru’s hoodies strewn across Suguru’s chair. A pile of manga the two of them traded so often, Suguru was sure neither of them remembered who bought what anymore. Stacks of video games, misplaced socks and clothes, manga and notebooks and pens and pencils, posters and cd’s.

So many bits and pieces of his life had only existed as a result of Satoru. And Satoru just wasn’t there anymore.

They say that you don’t realise what you have until it’s gone. Suguru learns that this rings true the hard way.

Satoru might’ve been alive, but not in the way Suguru knew him to be. Reachable by text. A knock next door. A tap on the shoulder. A kick to the shin.

Satoru would now always be farther and farther and unreachable than ever, and Suguru can only find it in him to laugh.

An arrogant, obnoxious, self-absorbed prick. Beyond his capacity for greatness, there was nothing more to him than that. Just another person to walk through Suguru’s life- that’s all he’ll ever be.

Suguru turns down the hall, swings Satoru’s dorm room open, kicks the door shut and collapses onto his bed.

Suguru feels an object press into his thigh from his pocket. Nah. I’ll get a new phone. Besides, not like this is the last time we’ll ever see each other.

He takes Satoru’s phone out of his pocket, and tosses it onto Satoru’s messy drawer.

He’s tired, Suguru decides. For a moment, just a moment, he’ll pretend nothing has changed.

We’ll still be the same, yeah?

(He hopes they will. God, he hopes they will.)

You’ll still be my… one and only, y’know?

(That hurt. Why did that hurt? Why did it make his heart pound and his head spin? Why’d that make him want to throw up and punch the living shit out of Satoru? One and only? Seriously? Did he really have nobody else? Was he the only person Satoru even considered? And why does the implications of that make him want to damn it all and find Satoru himself? Join him on whatever stupid escapade he was on? Betray all of Jujutsu Society and everything he stood for while he was at it?)

Suguru shuts his eyes.

(Things would be easier if they had just forgetten about each other.)

I don’t. Fucking. Know, Suguru.

He takes a deep breath.

(He hates Satoru.)

You love me.

The world stills. Suguru falls asleep. And he dreams of a world where Satoru never left, where he never killed those people, where he stayed alongside him, where things never change. And for some reason, Suguru doesn’t find comfort in that dream. Because somewhere along the way, it all goes wrong, and Suguru ends up dead in an alley.

When Suguru wakes up, he doesn’t remember much of the dream. But he continues on with the small notion of the possibility, that it could be worse. It could all be much, much worse.

And he’ll see Satoru again, someday, somewhere, even if as enemies, Suguru knows.

That at some point, there was just the two of them. And it would always be the two of them, even if the world demands otherwise.

You’ll still be… my one and only, y’know?

if you haven’t seen this performance of the beginning s2 intro song, it’s absolutely beautiful. and there’s english subtitles!

hearing the song and reading the english lyrics is absolutely heartbreaking and you can really tell that this song was chosen perfectly for Satoru and Suguru’s relationship.
