The Broken Wings Series

< Read Part 2 | Read Part 4 >

Summary: You’re a little tired of your dad breaking his promises, so as retribution, you break a few of your own.

Pairing: Billy Hargrove x Hopper!Reader

Word Count: 5,652

Author’s Note: GUYS. Billy is in this chapter. And that’s all I’m saying about it.

Warnings: Language (as always). Underaged drinking. Things get a little steamy (but I don’t write smut, so no worries there.)

Today was one of those rare days that you actually woke up to your alarm clock, giving you time to pick out your outfit rather than just throw things on and avoid having your dad bang down your door to get up. You really needed to do this more often. You yawned as you walked out of your room, coming down the hallway and catching sight of  El standing behind your dad. A small smile tugged at your lips as you took her in, draped in the white sheet you made for her a few days ago. “Ghost,” El said, simply.

“Yeah, I see that,” your dad walked past her, pan in hand, towards the counter. He dumped out the french toast onto three plates.

“Halloween,” El followed him.

“Sure is, but right now it’s breakfast. Ok? Come on, let’s eat. Y/N,” he shouted out for you, and you stepped into view, sliding into your seat at the table. He relaxed a little bit, thankful that he wouldn’t have to fight you to get up today.

“They wouldn’t see me,” El started and you drew in a breath.

“Who wouldn’t see you?” Your dad asked, bringing two plates over to the table. He cut his eyes from you to the french toast, and you scrambled to get up, grabbing the last plate and bringing it over.

“The bad men.”

“What are you talking about?” Your dad asked, and you slid back into your seat, keeping your eyes down as he looked over at El.

“Trick. Or. Treat,” El stated, haltingly. “You wanna go trick or treating?” he looked at El as if she was crazy and then shifted his gaze to you accusingly.

“I’d take her,” you offered. “Make sure nothing bad happens. That the sheet stays on. We’d be back by 7. 7:30 at the latest.” Which would give you plenty of time to make it to Tina’s party.

He shook his head. “You know the rules.”

“Yes, but,” the two of you chorused.

“So you know the answer,” he stood up, taking El by her shoulders and walking her back from the table. This was not a good sign.

The two began to talk over each other, and you moodily looked at your french toast, pushing at the piece of bread with your fork.

“No, but I don’t–they wouldn’t see me”

“Hey. I don’t care.”

“But they wouldn’t—”

“I don’t care, alright?”

“–see me.”

“You go out there, ghost or not, it’s a risk. We don’t take risks, alright? They’re stupid, and…”

“We’re not stupid,” El spat the last word out, and your dad caught the tone, backing up a little. His jaw set and he took in a breath to calm himself.

“Exactly. Now you take that off, sit down, and eat,” he ordered. “Your food’s getting cold.” He walked back over to the table as El threw your costume to the ground.  "And you–“ your father pointed at you. "Don’t encourage her.”
