A modern day AU where Clive is a lonely researcher and Jason works part time at a dumpling soup shop and at an office supply store.
Clive only goes out for three things - food, office supplies, and basic necessities. Somehow he runs into Jason doing all three of these. And somehow, the chef/server who will let Clive rant about his research, coworkers, the university (all while looking very interested), remembers his name and says hi to him every time they see each other.
You have an older brother. He's more charismatic than you, handsomer than you, always surrounded by a big circle of friends. When you follow him in school, all of your teachers know you only as an extension of him. "You're Kaito's brother," they tell you when they hear your surname. They expect you to be him and you just can't measure up. Even when his choices ruin your life, much of your family take his side.
And then one day you die. It's tragic, but at least you don't leave behind a wife or children. At the memorial, how many people there are just a little bit relieved that it's you and not him?
You come back to life in a new world, and make a new start. There's nobody there to overshadow you. You gain confidence, and power, and a big circle of friends. Every time you rank up in power you get handsomer. Every time you rank up in power you look more like your brother, until your face is more his than yours.
Then you come home. The world turns upside down with the revelation of monsters and magic, and now he's the one running to catch up. He gets a job with the magical society you introduced him to. He's helpful and well-liked, but in these circles that only makes him average. His coworkers know him as an extension of you. "You're Jason's brother," they tell him when they meet him. They expect him to have your audacity, your proprensity for miracles.
And then comes the day that you step out of a portal and find him dead.
His funeral is widely attended. You come in secret, because your presence could upset the whole event. His death is tragic, but not world-shaking: in that crowd, how many people there are just a little bit relieved that it's him and not you?
When you rank up high enough, a friend tells you, you'll look just like his twin.

Professional Cuddler AU
Jason who takes on odd jobs and one of those is as a professional cuddler. Clive is, as always, a researcher at a local university. I struggle with how to get Clive to hire Jason, but I’m going to say it’s Belinda who does it as a joke for his birthday. Clive, of course, shows up because he’s not going to be rude.
Jason is immediately aware that Clive isn’t at all into it and offers to start slow. It’s a 3 hour session (damn, Belinda) so he asks if he wants to have a conversation instead. Start with small skin contact like hand holding or letting their legs touch.
So Jason brews some tea out, and they sit and talk. Letting their legs touch under the table and extra skin contact. Jason talks to Clive, asks him questions, and Clive has a pleasant time being able to talk about everything with someone who is personable and will listen to him. (What he really needs is a therapist, but Jason will do)
Despite originally not wanting to go, Clive books another session.
No, for real. I cannot envision that man as straight. It just doesn’t fit.
And yeah. Clive is just going to go around leaving a trail of broken hearts (including mine)
Jason: You should get a wife
Clive: Well if I ever find a SPOUSE…
Jason: Remember when you were into Farrah?

Better if Jason doesn’t even realize he likes Clive like that. He thinks he’s just jealous he can’t show off to his “best friend”

When they part, Jason smirks at him.

Clive rolls his eyes, and kisses the smirk off his face.
They talk about Jason coming back. He’d only moved out a few outfits when he was living with Farrah and had been recycling a combination of the same three shirts and two pants. They kiss a few more times, Clive enjoying the novel sensation and Jason feeling like he’d repressing it for far too long.
At last, Jason finally asks.
“So, how about it. Was to go on our… what was it? Fifth? Date?”
They go in the next day, Clive harried and positively miffed at being behind on work. Jason feeling light. It’s a Friday, and for the first time in a while, they head home together.
The next day, Jason plans a picnic. They go out to the nearby park, eat, and head to one of the local museums Clive had mentioned wanting to visit multiple times throughout their marriage. Before it too. Jason has been planning the date before they got married and has simply forgotten about it.
Farrah and Belinda give them shit. But when a few weeks later, the copies of their reports appear bound on Clive’s desk, they know who it was.
(And yes. They do convert Jason’s room into a study and return to the large king Clive has purchased for his own in order to… study. Yeah. Just study.)
