okay so this hits kind of hard as someone with conservative russian parents I can acknowledge how lucky I am to live in a country (america) that isn't criminalizing my right to exist or advocate for lgbt+ (though america is on thin ice..) I refuse to feel shame for my heritage. but I will continue to feel disdain for the russian government- -for failing its people. queer russians will always exist though as my mom said when I talked about bisexuality to her: 'of course there were people like that... but it was never allowed' may russian people be freed from oppression 🏳️‍🌈
