Rest in peace my moon

I first met Moonbin on the 14th of June 2016. I was relatively new to K-pop and wanted to start with a group just as new as me. I remember looking at the photos of the new groups I could get interested in. But I really remember Astro, specifically Moonbin. He just drew me in. His smile and the way he acted and behaved. During the summer of 2018 I abandoned Astro. My friends thought it was lame and they didn’t like it. I remember seeing alerts in my phone that Moonbin was live all the time. And I never clicked on.

I regret that now more than ever.

I bumped into him again during quarantine. When I watched his lives I realised how much I missed him and Astro. Throughout the loneliness of quarantine, Astro and Moonbin were there for me. They made me feel like I had someone to rely on a friend. When I came back from the gym tonight and opened my phone I never expected to hear that Moonbin had died. I thought it was a joke. Some fake news spread by a fake fan to get attention. So when I went on instagram to see that post on the Astro page. I was shocked. My thoughts went to his group mates and his family. I was devastated.

I want to end this by thanking my moonbeam for all that he has done for me. He made me feel important. He was always guiding me and lighting the way. He helped me shine like he did and always will. Moonbin is no longer physically with us. But we will always have the memories of him and that is just as good.

rest in peace my moonbeam and shine like you always have.

Okay, let's get something straight (or rather, gay). This goes out to all kpop fans.

If I have to see one more comment or tweet talking about how weird/gross it is for fans to discuss an idol's sexuality, or come after other fans for suggesting an idol might be queer, or act all holier-than-thou and talk about how we shouldn't "assume people's sexuality, I am going to fucking scream.

And before you come at me with wild accusations, let me get this out of the way - in no way do I condone the hypersexualization or objectification of idols. Or anyone for that matter. But discussing someone's possible orientation or seeing something that points to queerness isn't inherently sexual or fetishizing and to equate those two things is disgustingly homophobic on levels I cannot even begin to unpack here. Sexualities of all kinds (gay, straight, bi, ace, pan etc) are all celebrations of humanity and while it is up to every individual how public or private they want to be with their identity, it is not wrong to playfully guess or acknowledge signs of queerness (especially when so often there are explicit signs of queercoding!)

I encounter people's internalized homophobia and heteronormativity everyday both online and in person but the level of cognitive dissonance people have about this subject sometimes in the kpop fandoms I'm in is ASTOUNDING. So here I am writing this post to deconstruct some of shit.

First of all, the "oh, we shouldn't assume their sexuality" bullshit. People assume sexuality all the time. Literally, so much of the kpop industry itself is built on performative heterosexuality. We see in this in how commonly idols are asked about their "ideal type" (usually clearly implying the opposite gender). In how the slightest interactions between idols of different genders leads to dating rumors. In how it's assumed, especially for boy groups, that the fandom is mostly women/girls. In how it's normal for fans to pretend they are in a relationship with their bias. Like, be so for fucking real, kpop fan culture is literally where the word DELULU comes from. So it's okay to assume sexuality with all of this, but it's not okay if someone teases or so much as suggests that an idol might not be straight? The only time assuming sexuality is cast as being wrong is when the sexuality in question is anything but heterosexuality. And coming from a queer person, if you have ever said this, disrespectfully, fuck you.

Because in the process of saying shit like that you are essentially insinuating, intentionally or unintentionally, that not being straight is bad or abnormal. Because why else would you treat the suggestion of someone's queerness as an insult? Why would the idea that an idol is not straight be offensive or demeaning?

Even worse, this bullshit, patronizing, hetero-morality complex shuts down any discourse queer kpop fans want to have about queercoding in the industry. And there is a LOT of that. Korea is conservative, coming out isn't the only way to affirm queerness. And not wanting, not being able to be out and proud does not negate someone's possible queerness, idol or not. So queercoding is often an important form of self expression for some idols and to deny that discourse is denying those very idols you claim to be protecting their right to express themselves, their personhood and humanity.

And the cherry on top of the fucking cake is that of all places to do this, KPOP? An entertainment business model that has literally been built on queerbaiting? As much as I enjoy kpop, as a queer fan, this is one of the less than savory aspects of industry I have to be aware of and contend with. And if you find yourself wondering how kpop queerbaits, think about the concept of "fan service" between members of an idol group. Fan service includes all instances of a group encouraged to perform "skinship" or flirt with each other to amuse the fans. Fan service is literally an euphemistic way of referring to queerbaiting and it is unbelievable how people don't even realize it. It's even more frustrating to see some fans having the audacity to brush things off as "fan service" when fans playfully (emphasis on playfully) engage in shipping. They don't even realize how problematic it is that such "fan service" is used for the viewing pleasure of straight fans and baits queer fans but simultaneously denies queer fans their space and voice and shuts down actual queerness in the industry. If you enjoy fan service (and nothing wrong with that by itself), but also demonize shippers or shut down queer fans discussing queercoding, you are part of the problem. Don't come up trying to say you wish the kpop industry would be a little less severe on idols dating or being queer, because you are part of the reason why the industry is the way it is.

To all my fellow queer fans, be absolutely unapologetic for your jokes or memes or ships or thought-provoking discussions on queerness and queercoding. There is no shame in our joy, we are not wrong or twisted for it. Because we know that we would celebrate our idols for who they are or want to be no matter how they choose to express themselves. Do not let people who would twist it into something perverted or bad, as an excuse for their own homophobia, shame you for the innocent joy of celebrating queerness. Do not let yourself be ashamed of it. As long as you are kind and respectful, love what you love and be queer and proud and happy.

Insecure

Summary: Quick VERY short story about Hyunjin x Black fem reader at a fashion show and reader gets a little insecure and jealous of his close relationship with Donatella Versace and he reassures her that she doesn’t have to worry about losing his attention or him to anyone.

Authors note : Hi my first imagine in a longgggggg time so please cut me some slack this is all over the place because it was off the top of my head so enjoy my mess :)

He hugged Donatella and then Anne for what felt like an eternity and you stood posing for pictures awkwardly not knowing how to stand showing your face here already made you anxious after what happened in the media when the world found out about you and Hyunjin after being in the shadows for about too years not because of Hyunjin but because you where insecure.

“Looks like i have competition …’’ you say to Hyunjin as he slides beside you wrapping his arm around your waist cameras flickering and flashing,his name being shouted over and over paparazzi begging him to face in there direction

Currently we where at a fashion show Hyunjin was invited by Donatella Versace herself to attended and of course he was going to except who wouldn’t really but he was only allowed to come alone due to his managements advice of not having me “Distract him” but against there will he brung me anyways and I happily attended with no hesitation not wanting to skip out on being able to wear the custom Versace gown he had secretly got done for me a while back. The black gown fitting neatly over my curves with a low hanging v cut in the middle and a backless chain on my spin made me feel irresistible but i also felt a twinge of insecurity and maybe jealousy of how close Hyunjin got with Donatella forgetting i was even around but it may have just been from my past experiences of all ways being left out.

“What agi ? (Baby in Korean)” Hyunjin says through his teeth while smiling at the camera

“Nothin .. just something stupid .. Donatella really likes you ?” I say to him as he waves over to his fans is and placed his hand on your bare lower back pushing you along down the red carpet

“Y/N .. please don’t start this right here agi’’ leaning over into you he kisses my ear and rubbing soft circles along your warm brown skin he did this when he knew where the conversation was going or when he didn’t want you upset anymore

“Im not tryin to start anything I can’t help when i feel like this thats why i try to keep it to myself.. So never mind enjoy your night ” you say pouting you finally making it to your seats and getting comfortable

Before you could say anything else you noticed Hyunjin flexing his jaw this situation was agitating him but he tried to keep a gentle look on his porcelain face he didn’t say a word then suddenly he grabbed the bottom of your chair and pulled you closer to him making your dress fall off your legs a little soft brown skin peeking through your silt on your dress as you crossed them. Your leg falls over his lap and you can’t help but shift nervously in your seat as some people start to stare he smirks to himself before rubbing his ringed fingers softly over your thigh you give him a once over look and can’t help but smile a little at his sudden gesture of love. He was always like this with you in matter where you were or who was around he liked to subtly and sometimes not subtly reassure you, you where his world and his life and the same when for you. 

Leaning in closely he rubbed his nose against your cheek lovingly cameras flashed and for the first time today you didn’t mind..

“Jinny .. i feel like a child when this happens .. I can’t believe im acting like this over a older women .. it’s okay if you hate me ” you say in a whisper over the loud music playing models heels click on the runway Donatella and the others sitting beside you both trying not to look at your private yet not private display of affection

“Don’t .. don’t do that agi ..you know how i feel about you Y/N I’ve been dating you for too years in secret might i add because I wanted to respect how you felt about going public even though i was dying to show you off ” he says looking over briefly at his manger who’s signaling him to stop the pda but he turns back to you and his hand goes a bit higher now under the dress rubbing your hip

“ I know I know and i respect that your always a gentleman, but I’m scared ill lose you’’ you say to him holding his jaw in your well manicured hand his skin looked good with your black glitter acrylic nails

“Agi .. just because i take my attention off of you sometimes doesn’t mean I’m gonna leave but if you want me to i can remind you like i did last night’’ he says his eyes looking up at yours innocently with that teasing smirk then back down at your glossy lips

You lean in and close the space kissing his pink lips gentle he smiles into the kiss playfully pinching your thigh briefly you giggle in joy of not just the affection but the words he said to you before the kiss. Pulling away you peck his lips again and again making him laugh as well you both being more enticed by the thought of being in the news in the next hour you don’t stop still holding his chin you kiss all over his face leaving lips stick stains to match is black suite nicely before you could continue his manger was sitting behind you both whispering to stop.

“Sorry i got carried away I mean look at him’’ you say to his manager with a small laugh trying you wipe off the lipstick stains on his face but Hyunjin grabs your wrist gentle stopping you

“No no .. leave it’’ He says his thumb rubbing soft circles along your wrist

“ Why ?” You say with a puzzled expression

“Cause then everyone knows im yours and you’ll have no more reasons to be insecure” he says with a smile on his face lightly slapping the side of your thigh bitting his bottom lip this man was going to be the death of you
