Synopsis: You accompany your girlfriend Kate to the 2024 WNBA draft in support of your mutual friend Caitlin. What happens when your girlfriend gets drafted and has to move across America.

Dressing up for the 2024 WNBA draft with your girlfriend Kate, you shake your hands nervously. This being your first big event, also knowing how much paparazzi will be there, being able to take pictures of you and others. Kate grabs both your hands holding them in hers “What’s wrong baby?” she asks you concerned. The way she looked at you with so much emotion showed how much she truly did care for you.

“I’m nervous I know I shouldn’t be because I don’t even play basketball but there’s gonna be so many people with there eyes on us- and it’s just scary I guess” You admit to her your bottom lip jutting out a bit. Her hand lets go of yours and holds your face in her hand “Don’t be scared I’ll be with you the whole time. We’re just going to support Caitlin it’ll be okay promise” she comforts you brushing your hair back with her hands.

The both of you finish getting ready together while messing around a bit the whole time, you in a black dress and Kate in a matching suit. Getting to the draft you take a deep breath and hold Kates hand squeezing it. She looks at you for confirmation and you nod signaling you’re ready and the two of you walk in together.

Light flashes take over your vision and the sound of cameras clicking take over your ears. Kate leads you away from the paparazzi and down to where Caitlin was waiting for the two of you. You smile at the other player and hug her “You look amazing Caitlin I’m so proud of you” you tell the taller girl pulling away so Kate can greet her.

“Thanks guys I’m a lil nervous” Caitlin responds to you both cracking her knuckles. Kate smacks her lips “Come on you know you’re gonna be Ms number one pick” she tells the girl. The three of you walk down and take some pictures together and solo. Now it was time for the draft to start and you and Kate sit down a few rows back and watching Caitlin shine.

The first 16 picks go by and your head leans on Kate’s shoulder watching it all with a smile on your face. A woman comes up to the both of you and tells Kate to move a few rows forward closer to the stage. You look at Kate confused and she kisses your cheek “I don’t know what’s going on but wait here for me” she whispers getting up and following the woman. The next pick happens and you frown at the fact Kate isn’t next to you anymore and you were beyond confused.

“And the eighteen pick of 2024 draft Las Vegas Aces picks Kate Martin” you head snaps up on shock at her words. You scream getting up clapping as Kate walks on stage shocked that she got picked. You film Kate tears welling up in your eyes at how proud you were of the girl. She smiles at you from the stage and holds her jersey tight in her hands proud of herself and how far she has come.

As she walks off the stage you jump out of your seat and run as fast as you can in your heels and meet her in the middle. Her arms embrace you and squeal “MY GOD BABY IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU” you whisper squeezing her. Your girlfriend lets out a breathy laugh “Thank you I’m shocked right now” she admits pulling away from you and pressing a kiss to your lips. You watch as Kate hugs her coach and Caitlin and few other people before grabbing your hand again and sitting down so you both can watch the others get drafted.

After watching the draft you go home a bit early letting Kate celebrate with her team and go to interviews. Sliding your heels off relief was all you could feel for a moment before it all clicked in your head, Kate got drafted.

If she got drafted that meant she had to move to be with her team. You sigh sitting down on your bed not even bothering to change out of your dress. If Kate moves where does that leave your relationship with her. The two of you have been dating for two years now, you share an apartment with her and everything. Iowa to Las Vegas was a 21 hour drive or three hour plane ride not to mention the time difference. You sit in your bed overthinking the whole situation between the two of you for so long you don’t realize how the time has passed till you hear keys jingle in the door.

Kate walks in a smile in her face “Hey baby why are you still dressed?” she asks you kicking her shoes off and walking into your shared bedroom, closing the door behind her. Her face contorts into confusion at your face and she sighs sitting down next to you “What’s wrong pretty girl?” she asks you her voice quiet. You shrug not wanting to ruin her night in anyway “How was the interview and the girl?” you change the topic fast your hand coming up to brush a piece of her blond hair from her face.

Her big eyes stare at you “Don’t do that tell me what’s on your mind I want to know” she demands her hand moving yours form her hair to interlock your fingers together. Sighing you bite the inside of your cheek something you always if did when anxious. Kate’s other hand rubs your cheek causing you to stop biting it “Come on talk to me please” she begs you her big eyes boring into yours.

“It’s just your moving to Vegas baby and I want you to live your dream I just don’t know where I am- we are in this dream” you correct yourself looking up at her you see her face turn into a smile.

Kate laughs “Baby my dream is to be with you, always if I’m moving to Vegas I want you to come with me, be there with me through everything” she looks at you a bit nervous to see how you would react to her basically asking you to move with her. You gasp and hug her wrapping your arms around her “Yes of course I’m coming with you Kate oh my god” you squeeze her closer to you and kiss her head a few times her arms circling your waist.

You pull away from the hug and look down at her lips then back into her eyes “So we’re moving to Vegas and you got drafted. This is the best day of my life” you tell her getting up and going to grab one of her shirts and a new pair of panties. She laughs from behind you “Best day of your life baby I think it’s supposed to be mine” she says standing up and grabbing a shirt and shorts.

“No it’s mine I’ve never been to Vegas so this is so exciting and I love seeing you happy so it’s a win-win situation” you turn around looking at her expectingly she shrugs “If my girl happy I happy” she mimics you.

Kate grabs your hand and pulls you to the bathroom with your turning you around so your back is to her, so she can unzip your dress. The black dress falls limp on the floor leaving you almost bare infront of the taller girl. You help Kate get out of her suit grabbing the clothes you put them both in the laundry bin along with your underwear. Kate turns the shower on waiting for it to get warm filling the tub, you grab her cheek with your hand pulling her into a shirt and sweet kiss.

“Come on I’m tired and wanna relax” you mumble stepping into the warm water and sitting down in the tub leaning forward so Kate can climb in behind you. She reaches over you grabbing shampoo adding bubbles you laugh at her and lean back into her embrace. The hot water calming the both you, her head sits comfortably on your shoulder your hands intertwined.

Kate kisses your neck lightly “So I got drafted” she says breathlessly still shocked. You nod “You Kate Martin got drafted” you repeat to her.

Her head shakes leaning back pulling you with her to lay down “I still can’t believe it’s real” she admits her chest moving up and down behind you with every word she says.

“It’s like all the hard work I have has paid off and my dreams are coming to life basketball, you, everything” She adds on grabbing some shampoo and putting it in her hands then moving them to your wet hair. Her big hands massage your scalp “Ye-yeah I’m so proud of you baby and all you have done” you tell her lean your head back so she can wash the shampoo out of your hair. She cups water in her hands dropping it in your hair letting the soap was away. You turn around and straddle her waist grabbing the shampoo and doing the same to her as she just did to you. Kate looks up at your like a puppy and smiles at you “I’m so tired” she complains a smile still on her face.

You nod your head moving down on her lap to let her dip her head back to wash the shampoo away. Hearing her mumble something you couldn’t hear “What was that baby?” you ask her looking down at her helping her sit back up you still on her lap. Kate’s hand comes up to hold your cheek “I don’t know I’m tried can we sleep please just wanna hold you” she asked pupils dilated.

Standing up from the bath bubbles racking your wet body you hold out your hand for her to take. Her hand envelops yours as you help her get up, more like help her hand while she got up herself but she didn’t mind. You grab a towel and rub it down her body helping her dry off while she looked down at you biting her lip. She leaves the bathroom to grab your clothes you picked out before coming back to see you drying yourself off.

The two of you change and get into bed together your head in her chest, your fingers tracing soothing circles on her arm. Her hand holds your back closer to her “I love you so much” she whispers into your hair laying a kiss on your forehead. You nod “I know I love you more” you whisper back closing your eyes before the two of you slowly fall asleep in each others on, dreaming about your futures together.

She groans getting up from your shoulder yawning “Mhm m still here baby” she responds moving her hair to the side looking around at her surroundings. Biting your lip you look at her lips quickly hoping she didn’t notice “Is it bad I wish we could fuck right now?” you ask her biting down on your lip harder looking at her with those eyes.

Her eyes widen “Babe- I- we’re on the bus” she stutters blushing looking at you wide eyed. Laughing at her you shrug looking around at all the girls who are in their own world. Kate follows your gaze and a flush covering her face “No baby” she says shaking her head trying to rid the thoughts in her head of the both of you right now.

She shakes her head “Yeah you also distract the team captain just sitting here” she says rolling her eyes jokingly. Kate jogs up to you both and hugs you her arms wrapping around your neck “Uh no your sweaty get back on the court” you say sternly moving away from her.

“Wow so you don’t wanna to hug your girl I see how it is” She pouts and pretends to wipe a tear from her eye. Before turning around and jogging back to the court back to her team before turning around and winking at you.
