I'm hoping to get back into Tumblr, so have an incorrect quote by yours truly <3

Wild: Cronch

Wild: You hear that? That's the sound of me eating sticks.

Twilight: Wild please don't-

Wild already shoving a stick into his mouth: Too late.

Tags

Twilight: … the important thing is that you learned something.

Wild walking away with half of his hair burnt and clothing covered in ash: No, I didn’t.

Tags

Hyrule: Road work ahead? Uh yeah, I sure hope it does

Wild: I opened the window and influenza.

Time: What’s upstairs? Unfortunately stairs can’t talk.

Sky: The bird flu? Uh yeah they tend to do that.

Warriors: Based? Based on what.

Four: Apartment complex? I actually find it quite simple.

Legend: You’re telling me a ginger bred this man?

Wind: You’re telling me a shrimp fired this rice?

Twilight: Wood fired pizza? How’s pizza going to get a job now?

Bonus

Ravio: Chef kiss? Do… Do they really?

Dink: Who broke into the bar and stole our limbo stick. Seriously, how low can you go.

To my giftee, @mertensia, enjoy this gift I give you. A mostly Legend fic, I have no clue how it became this, but I can say that it goes through a large variety of genres!

˅Words: 5227

Legend stared at the water that surrounded the tiny island of Wind’s era. He hated the salty smell and the cool ocean breeze as it whispered to him. It reminded Legend too much of Marin. The seagulls called from where they circled, eyes sharp in a search of food. They called out to each other in the roaring wind, reminding them of their search.

A huge flock of seagulls in particular circled around an open area further away from the island. Legend narrowed his eyes, blinking wildly. Legend thought he had seen something moving under that big flock of seagulls, but if something was there, it was gone now.

Legend had pushed himself up, getting to stand as everyone around him started to do the same. The only one not moving much being Four, as switches always seemed to affect Four badly. Four still gave a weak thumbs up from where he laid face down in the grass.

“We’re in my era!” Wind excitedly called. “Although, I think we are on Diamond Steppe island though, so I doubt we’ll get on a ship before the next switch. There was also a big octo on this island! I wonder if it’s still there after I killed it…” Wind trailed off thinking.

“So, we’re stuck on an island with no way off?” Time asked, crossing his arms and looking at Wind with his only good eye.

Wind nodded somehow enthusiastically. “Yep!”

“Why the fuck are you so energetic at the thought of us being stranded on an island?!” Legend glared at where Wind was practically vibrating.

“Wow vet, you’re a bit grouchy today.” Warriors noticed, smirking at Legend from the corner of Legend’s eyes.

“Yes. Don’t talk to me today pretty boy, or we’ll see if you are waterproof and can swim.”

“Don’t fight, this isn’t the biggest of islands.” Twilight spoke up, glancing between Legend and Warriors.

Sky glanced at Legend from where he was helping Four to sitting. Four stared at Legend with a neutral expression, unreadable even to Legend.

It’s kind of scary how deadpan Four is sometimes. It’s almost always hard to read his expressions.. Legend’s mind mused for not the first time.

Legend glanced around the island. He noticed that it had some very steep cliffs with waterfalls falling down. A few palm trees dotted the cliffs and the land, and a large pool of water sat at the bottom, just a few steps away from Legend in the center of the island. Tall cliffs separated the island from the ocean. Flowers danced to a tune that the wind sang.

“Well, fuck.” Legend muttered, noting how there was literally no way to separate himself from the rest of the chain. A joke which Four had originally suggested amused, but somehow stuck with the other heroes.

“Hey, vet.” Sky’s voice startled Legend out of his trance, and he snapped his gaze to the sleepy hero.

“Oh, hey Sky.” Legend groaned, rubbing his eyes in a hopeless attempt to get the sun out.

Sky smiled at Legend as Legend turned back to the high cliffs of the island. He started to walk towards the lake, moving to sit on the lake’s shore. He heard Sky move to sit next to him. Wild immediately ran over to the cliff to start climbing, Wind yelling at Wild to come back down. Something about a very bad hole being at the top..? Legend couldn’t hear it through the wind.

The sky was mostly clear with patches of clouds floating through, until they vanished over the horizon off into the distance over the endless ocean.

Legend really hated Wind’s era sometimes. As Legend stared at the lake, he could almost imagine that he was just in another link’s era, but the smell and noise brought him back.

Legend could tell that he was giving off ‘don’t talk to me’ vibes, as the other heroes settled down further away. In a grassy patch underneath a few trees. Only Sky sat next to Legend, with Hyrule picking flowers and Four casting a glance at Legend.

“So, I’ve noticed you don’t particularly like Wind’s era. Is it because of the ocean?” Sky asked carefully, looking at Legend curiously.

“Yeah, sure. I’m not a big fan of water.” Legend said in a monotone voice as he stared at the lake.

“Do, do you want to talk about something?” Sky asked again.

Legend blinked, glancing at Sky who had returned to look at the lake. “Like what?”

Sky shrugged. “Anything really. Happy memories? Funny stuff that happened on your adventures? Things you like? You’re always so vague about them. Almost Time or Four level of vague.”

“Did I hear my name mentioned?”

“WHERE THE FUCK DID YOU COME FROM FOUR?!” Legend jerked back at the sudden appearance of the shortest hero. Four merely smirked slightly at Legend’s reaction.

“I have my ways. Anyways, I’ve wandered over to question why Legend looks like he was going to murder the next hylian who talked to him.” Four shrugged.

“And you still came over willingly to talk to Legend?” Sky asked, turning to look at Four.

Four nodded. “I mean, I got nothing else to do. Plus I feel better from the switch already, oh and Warriors was being annoying.” Four moved to sit on Legend’s other side, muttering a ‘scoot over Legend’ as he sat down.

Legend stared at him. “I don’t have a murderous expression.”

“Yeah you totally do, your eyes narrow and your eyebrows pitch together. You frown slightly and stare blankly.” Four explained, saying it as if it was public knowledge.

Sky snickered as Legend stared at Four unable to form words to fight back.

“So, anyways. Before I interrupted you, what were you and Sky talking about?” Four inquired, inclining his head at a slight angle. (It reminded Legend of puppies or even Wolfie. Comparing Four to a puppy would definitely end up in him getting his kneecaps kicked hard, so he decided not to say that thought out loud.)

“Well, I was asking if Legend wanted to talk about any happy memories or good things that happened from his adventures in order to take his mind off of being in the middle of the ocean.” Sky gestured around at the island at the word ‘ocean’.

“Happy memories? From adventures..?” Legend blinked at Sky. “Adventure’s aren’t supposed to be fun.”

“Well, I mean everyone has to have some good moments. Like for me, it was reuniting with Sun again.” Sky smiled his dopey in love smile at the mention of Sun. “I spent most of my adventure looking for her.”

Four nodded. “I found a family and friends which I could never forget. Even if there were some bittersweet moments.”

Legend blinked at the two of them. He turned to the lake again, scratching his neck in thought.

“I guess a good time was meeting a friend of mine. She was wonderful and amazing. I miss her.. Ravio maybe? He’s an annoyance to deal with, but I guess I would consider him a friend.”

“See, everyone has some good moments in their life.” Sky grinned.

“Speaking of Sun, do you have any relationships Legend?” Four asked suddenly.

Legend turned to Four at the unexpected question. “Where did that come from Smithy? Got someone on your mind?” He added the sarcastic comment.

Four shrugged. “I mean, I had a friend I knew, but no relationships for me. I remembered my friend and I just thought of that question. Plus, you have like a bajillion rings. Surely not all are from dungeons.” “You underestimate how many dungeons gave me rings.”

“Oh Hylia.”

Legend chuckled at Four’s face. “No, most of them are from dungeons though. Plus, I have some many more in my bag. But this one,” He held up his hand, pointing to a plain, silver ring. Small patterns that made it look like leaves curled inwards to a simple flower. “I made this. It was in memory of one of my friends..” Legend looked at the ring sadly.

“Okay, now you’re sad again. This is supposed to be a bonding moment!” Sky gently shoved Legend affectionately.

Legend grinned at Sky. “Have I ever told you about my ability to turn into a painting?”

Both Sky and Four visibly paused, doing a double take.

“I’m sorry, what?” Sky blinked at Legend. Four hummed, staring at Legend in hopes of him continuing.

Legend chuckled. “And that is all I’m going to say.” He grinned at Sky’s expression.

“I’m so proud of you Legend.” Four wiped away fake tears. “You’re vagueness is beautiful.”

Sky whipped his head to Four. “Why are you encouraging this?!”

Legend laughed, Four even joining in. Sky chuckled at their laughter.

“Okay but I was seriously a painting once.” Four shrugged. “I mean, I’ve seen the world being as small as a mouse and fought a giant sphere with a single big eye. I can see that happening to one of us.” Sky stared at Four. “I would’ve marked down one of my weirdest experiences would’ve been being able to sit on a bench and get healed, but now I’m really questioning things.”

Legend smirked. “I also was once on the run from soldiers.”

Four blinked at Legend. “Oh, so that’s why I saw a bunch of ‘wanted’ posters of you.”

Legend shook his head sadly. “They never can get my face right. Especially my nose.”

“One time Fi told me to ‘charge my wii batteries’, whatever that means..”

Legend blinked at Sky.

Sky shrugged. “My reaction entirely.”

Four chuckled quietly, as if he was sharing a secret with himself.

Legend hummed a moment, going through his memories to find any strange occurrences he had found himself in.

A comfortable silence fell as Legend tried to remember his adventures. He glanced at Four, his eyes instinctively moving to the Four Sword.

“I once had to team up with me, myself and I to fight in a kingdom who only cares about fashion. The only reason why I was there was because a princess was cursed to wear something ‘ugly’.” Legend recalled.

“Sounds familiar.” Four mused quietly.

Sky smiled, his eyes never leaving the small fish that danced in the clear water.

Silence fell again, only being broken by Twilight’s shout of WILD! DON’T DO THAT!’ and Wild’s response of ‘I can do whatever he wanted, thank you very much’ from where he sat at the edge of the cliff. Legend rolled his eyes at the (unfortunately) common occurrence.

Legend heard heavy feet falling behind him and turned. Meeting the gaze of Time as he looked at the heroes with his good eye. “I once fought the moon.”

Four turned to look at Time. “It’s kind of impressive how you can say that with such a deadpan expression.”

Time shrugged. “Well, I’ve come to tell you that Wild is cooking.”

“Great. I’m starving.” Legend stood up and stretched. He blinked, noticing at the sudden darkness that had appeared. Dark, stormy clouds drifted along the sky, different then how it was when they had first arrived. Legend also noticed the lack of noise, even the wind had calmed down to a quiet hum.

I forgot we were even on an island.. Legend blinked at the revelation.

“Had it always been this stormy looking?” Four asked, voicing Legend’s own thoughts out loud.

Time glanced up. “No, and it has only been getting worse. Wind thinks it might be a storm, but a storm doesn’t happen this fast.”

Sky frowned. “This storm is giving me a strange feeling. Perhaps we should get up quicker and get over to eat Wild’s delicious food.”

“You just want to eat Wild’s cooking.” Legend joked, as Four stood up. “But yeah, the quicker we can get food and hopefully get off this island, the better.”

Legend walked over to the rest of the chain, where Wild’s cooking wafted around as Wild sat at a fire. Hyrule sat nearby, carefully looking at the flowers he had collected. Twilight kept glancing nervously at the sky, and Wind chatted to no one and everyone, waving his hands in exaggerated motions. Warriors glanced at Legend as Time lead them back.

“You good now Vet? Not going to murder anyone now?” Warriors cocked his eyebrow.

“Wouldn’t you like to know pretty boy.” Legend shot back.

“Glad to see you back to your sarcastic self.” Warriors replied.

Legend huffed amused.

“I have some fish soup for all of you.” Wild handed out the soup to everyone.

No one wasted any time digging into the soup. As Legend ate, he saw a singular seagull landing in a nearby tree.

Marin, I hope wherever you are, you are as happy.

***

As they finished eating their stew, Wind glanced at the sky nervously. It rumbled ominously, which gave Legend a chill. He could recognize the starting of a boss battle, even if he had no clue where it was.

“Wind, could this storm be signaling a boss battle?” Legend inquired, giving Wild his cleaned bowl.

Wind blinked at the sky, “it shouldn’t be, I’ve already taken care of the boss in this area… unless.. It somehow returned.”

“Like the blood moon in my time?” Wild asked, shifting through his sheikah slate in search of something.

Wind nodded. “Yeah, the big problem is that if the boss did return, we need a boat to defeat it. Something we currently do not have.”

Time looked at the young sailor. “What was the boss in this area Wind?” He rumbled.

“A very big octo. Very large, you can always tell when one is near because it starts to pour rain hard and water around it starts to form a whirlpool.” Wind explained, glancing towards the ocean nervously when rain started to pour from the sky.

Oh fuck. I don’t want to have to deal with ANOTHER boss. Legend groaned inwards quietly. I’ve already had to deal with so many..

Wind flinched as a rumble sounded from the ocean, Wild rushed to the edge of the island, peering into the waters curiously. He stumbled back quickly enough.

“There is a whirlpool. A very big one. I have a feeling that the Octo is still here-” Wild spoke, grabbing his bow and his slate.

“Great, we’re going to have to fight it aren’t we?” Legend groaned, moving to grab his bag of items. He shuffled through it looking for, preferably something long ranged. He got what he was looking for, a fire rod and ice rod was produced. But he frowned, noting that it might not be a good idea over open water.

“Well, yes, if we plan on leaving this island or leaving ourselves open to attacks. But the downside is that we’re going to need a boat to fight it..” Wind shuffled his feet as he tightened his grip on his sword.

“We can’t just use the island to shoot from afar?” Wild inquired, tilting his head.

“I mean, I guess we could..? But I have never tried that. All the times I had fought them, I had a boat that I sailed in.” “Tetra’s boat?” Sky asked and Legend glanced up to him. His hair was plastered to his face and his cloth around his next billowed in the harsh winds. His hand was on the mastersword’s hilt, and his eyes were narrowed in the harsh wind.

“Nope, someone else.”

Legend hummed, going back to his bag in search of a weapon, he finally stumbled upon what he was looking for. A bow. Legend didn’t know which adventure he got this particular bow, he thinks his first adventure, but the bow itself wasn’t something grand. Instead, it was the arrows. Specifically bomb arrows. He flourished his bow and started counting his arrows that he had.

100 arrows? Hmm, I swore I had more.. Maybe not, but I know.. Aha! I found the rest of my arrows. I’ll only be able to hold 70 in my quiver though. Legend grabbed 60 bomb arrows and 10 regular arrows. Bomb arrows are usually pretty effective against big targets right?

“Hey Wind, any weak points in this thing?” Four called, his voice much further away then before. Legend glanced up. Four was at the edge of the island using his bow and shooting a giant rising shape.

That… is a very big octorok. Legend blinked at the sheer size of it. It made Ganondorf look tiny, even puny, compared to the octorok. Legend noticed that the octorok was where the huge swarm of seagulls had circled just moments before.

“Yeah! Aim for the eyes!!” Wind called, and Legend turned to see Wind using his bow and arrows, all of them aimed for the octo’s eyes. Legend grabbed his bag and put it on as he finished sorting through his arrows.

Legend hurried over, pulling his bow back and shooting a bomb arrow. It landed perfectly on the octo’s top right eye. It was only missing one other eye, being shot at by Time moments earlier.

“Jeez Wind, how do this things get so big in your Hyrule?” Warriors exclaimed, ducking one of the octo’s tentacles as it swiped at him.

“It’s probably since we’re in an ocean! They typically like water.” Legend shot at Warriors.

“Yeah, but your name isn’t Wind! I asked Wind!”

“Sounds like someone is just upset that they asked a really obvious question.”

“Legend duck!” Twilight’s yell sounded out from Legend’s left. Legend on instinct rolled right, just barely being missed by a tentacle. Lightning crackled in the stormy sky.

“You okay?” Hyrule bent over to peer at Legend, holding his bow at his side and helping Legend up.

“Yup, just keep shooting Rulie!” Legend grabbed another arrow and shot at the Octo.

Hyrule joined him, shooting off arrows.

Then 5 eyes went down to 3, then 2. Every time the arrow made its mark, it would jiggle and shake.

Four yelped when a tentacle caught him off guard. He was thrown backwards, and Hyrule instantly went back to go and help Four. Legend felt his frustration grow more as Sky was next to be caught by the tentacles.

The arrow landed. 1 more eye to go.

By now, the octo has been having to swerve its head to spot the heroes, wildly swinging its tentacles in wide arcs in hopes of catching some unsuspecting prey. Legend dodged a swinging tentacle, glancing back up to see Wind landing the final arrow on the octo.

It didn’t go down.

“It must have an eye on it’s back side!” Wind exclaimed, and indeed, the octo did. Legend saw the eye as it swiveled away, clearly knowing better then to turn their direction. It kept swinging it’s tentacles wildly, with fast and practiced movements.

“How are we going to get it though?” Warriors shouted over the roaring wind.

Legend ducked from the tentacles again, noting its attacking style.

I could maybe use my mermaid suit or flippers, but I wouldn’t be able to climb back on the island due to all of its cliffs. And clearly there are no hookshot places, or at least from where I can see. I mean, maybe the trees but I doubt my hookshot would work. I could use its tentacles to scale the body and attack from the back. But then back to the ‘how will I get back up here?’ question.

Legend sighed at his idea, seeing no other choice, he decided that he would have to do it. So when the octo swung its tentacles again, Legend hopped onto it’s slimy skin. Clinging onto it for his dear life, he started to scale the monstrosity.

It proved to be a task indeed. It certainly could feel Legend there, and definitely did not want Legend there. It used its tentacles to whack Legend off, but Legend stood strong, Just barely over the wind, he could hear his fellow heroes shouting from the island, but he paid them no mind.

Legend kept losing his grip as he climbed, he kept sliding down minisculely. Soon, however, Legend had made it to the shoulder of the octo. He glanced up, noting how high up the cliff edge was from where he clutched the octo’s skin desperately. Sky was yelling something with a worried expression, but Legend couldn’t hear him. Water crashed against his legs on the small lip where the tentacle connected to the octo.

Well, I’m already down here. How am I going to get back up there?

Legend scrunched his nose in concentration as he inched along the lip of the octo. Having to keep his eyes open for incoming tentacles, he ducked as one came fast towards him. It only resulted in the Octo hitting itself. As Legend finally was able to inch all the way to the back side, he saw the final eye. Not far from it, it blinked and stared at him as he raised his bow. Knocking an arrow with one hand was tough, but something that Legend taught himself to do. He didn’t recall which adventure… maybe 4? Shaking his head, he took careful aim and made sure to keep a tight grip as to not fall into the swirling whirlpool below. He shot his arrow, watching as it hit its mark head on.

The octo let out a hideous noise, something between Wild’s octos and Four’s octos. Its tentacles  curled in on itself, and it shook violently. Legend let out a surprised squeak at the sudden jiggling movement of the Octo. It’s eyes started to glow a bright blue and it slowly started to sink below the waves. Legend yelped, getting swept off by the water as he lost his footing.

By instinct, Legend grabbed his mermaid tail from his bag and instantly the familiar feel of the tail washed over him. Reminded Legend of taking a warm, bubbly bath and the warm water washing over his bottom half. His top half was not affected, and in fact felt like it was going to become a frozen hero popsicle. The ocean water curled around him, it’s presence like an overwhelming quilt that Ravio always brought him. Opening his eyes, he was greeted by the blank darkness of Wind’s Ocean. He thought he saw some fish swimming past, but they seemed more like Hyrule’s Zoras more than anything. Big fish with ugly faces and sharp teeth… maybe…

Squinting, Legend glanced around, blinking at the same darkness that surrounded him. He yelped, feeling something tugging him backwards and glanced back. And he instantly regret it.

The giant octo stared right at him, most likely into his soul with those blank, glowing eyes. Legend beat his tail, swiftly moving further away from the octo, hopefully out of the whirlpool that it created, and turned back.

The octo had vanished from sight. Legend blinked, rubbing his eyes before blinking again.

What the fuck? Whom the fuck? Why the fuck? He shrugged, breathing deeply. I mean- I guess that’s the most anticlimactic boss ending I’ve ever seen. And that’s really saying something. Legend didn't know how long he paddled there, blinking at the haze of the ocean, unable to tell what was up or down. Because, apparently, mermaids DON’T have night vision- or at least underwater vision. Which was stupid in Legend’s opinion, since they literally LIVE underwater. It wasn’t until light started streaming from above him, did Legend start to move again.

By then, Legend was sure he was going to freeze to death. His glittering red tail and fins swept through the water as he swam up, but he could feel the chill settling into his bones. They ached, and he could barely feel his arms.

As he surfaced, he felt the warmth of the sun settled onto him. The second thing that hit him was the call of the seagulls, which Legend could feel his heart aching at the sound.

He also could hear the panicked voices of his fellow heroes. Even Warriors, which was pretty surprising considering how much Legend did to get into a fight with him, was calling out his name. As he opened his eyes, he was greeted by a much odd sight.

Wind was hanging from the cliff with his grappling hook secured on a tree, Wild was on the wall itself, wearing a beanie sort of thing and boots. (Still had his blue tunic on though-) Warriors was pacing at the edge of the cliff with Time standing and watching worriedly. Legend was pretty sure that was the most worried expression he has ever seen on Time. Sky, Hyrule and Four were no where to be found. And Twilight was very clearly panicking. Skirting around the edges and calling his name frantically and just seemingly on the edge of a panic attack.

Huh, they really seem to care about me.. Even Warriors looks panicked. I would assume that Hyrule would be panicking if he wasn’t helping Four and Sky. They both looked like they took some hard hits. As Legend swam over, he heard the cries of relief from Wild and Wind on the cliff.

“Legend! Your okay! Oh thank the goddess!!” Twilight yelled from the top of the cliff.

“WHAT?!” Legend called back, pretending not to hear him. As he neared the edge, he saw Wind’s eyes widen. He quickly took his mermaid tail and shoved it back into his bag again. He hoisted himself up, pulling out his grappling hook to find out- that yes it does clutch onto the cliff wall.

“Next time we fight a boss, can we fight it on land?” Legend muttered as he started climbing. “Especially when the only piece of land has fucking steep cliffs.”

Wind hopped up next to him as they climbed. “Hey- it’s not as bad as the ones in Wild’s time though. You recall that Hindox on top of the really big hill?”

“Yes. I also recall how Wild threw a really big boulder at it- and bombs.”

“Hey! It was a situation where it was called for!”

“It really wasn’t called for.” Legend shot back as he got near the top. Time reached down and helped Legend up. Warriors got Wind up, and Wild just got himself.

Instantly, Legend was crushed by fur. “Oof- Twilight! Stop- your.. CRUSHING ME!-” He yelped as the bear (wolf?) hug only got tighter.

“You worried us!” Twilight cried. “If Sky and Four hadn’t been injured, Hyrule would be panicking just as much as I was!” Legend choked out a weak “I can’t breath” before the hug was stopped. Putting Legend back on the ground with only some minor broken bones. He stood there gasping for breath after that death grip of a hug. Before smirking.

“Even Warriors was panicking?” Legend snarked, giving Warriors a sideways glance mirthfully.

Warriors stared back at Legend. “I was worried, but now I’m regretting it.”

“You do care!” Legend dramatically gasped.

“You’re as dramatic as Four.”

“I’ve learned from the best.”

Legend ganced around, noting that Time, Warriors, Wind, Wild and Twilight were mostly uninjured. (With Warriors having some suction cup markings on his face.) He saw Hyrule by the campfire, and ran over. Ignoring the muttered 'wow what are we, boko fodder?’ from Warriors.

“Hyrule!” Legend said as he neared his descendant. Hyrule glanced up.

“Legend! You’re okay! You were down there for so long! I was worried!” Hyrule, much like Twilight, hugged Legend very tightly. As if he planned to never let go. As he pulled away, he instantly went to checking for wounds.

“Are you hurt? Did the octo get anything? On a scale from 1-10, how are you feeling? Do you need a potion?” Hyrule worried, circling around Legend like a hawk and its prey.

“I’m fine. How is Four and Sky?” Legend asked, peering at the two heroes.

Four looked peaceful, his eyes closed shut and he laid splayed out on the ground. Sky was more awake, leaning heavily at the base of the tree. He glancing at Legend, blinking slowly.

“Well, Four was hit hard enough to be knocked unconscious, Sky has a minor concussion. Nothing too bad. Well, actually it’s not good that they got injured, but like.. It’s not serious injuries.” Hyrule waved his hand over towards Four and Sky, his eyes leaving Legend to glance over towards them.

“Since our dinner was RUDELY INTERRUPTED,” Wild hopped over to his mostly unfinished bowl, glancing angrily at the previous place where the octo had been, “I say we finish up and just vibe here until the next shift!”

“How are you still not finished with that? I finished mine hours ago!” “Some of us don’t eat as fast as you, not all of us have that kind of ability. I certainly didn’t get it with my hero licence.”

“Hey, what’s that implying?!”

“Guys, chill.” Wind walked over to Legend with a pondering look on his face.

“Hey, what’s up Wind?” Legend asked, glancing at the pirate.

“That octo- it was different…” Legend hummed, and when Wind didn’t continue, Legend looked over to see the sailor asleep next to him, his back propped up to the stump.

He smiled quietly, leaning back to watch the sun set below the horizon. A seagull perched nearby, fixing him with strikingly similar cool amber eyes. Legend choked quietly, tears starting to pool at the edges of his vision.

Marin, I miss you. I’m sorry.

Legend closed his eyes, feeling the grass below him and the call of the seagulls.

Then suddenly, he was free.

Bonus

“You know, islands remind me of an old friend of mine- her name was Marin.” Legend mumbled quietly, and felt Sky’s arms wrap around him.

“I’m sorry.” Sky whispered, Legend could feel the pitying glance that Four shot him. Legend could feel himself shaking, tears starting to form at the corners of his eyes.

“Oh- Marin? You mean the seagull lover? I knew her- she’s was kinda odd…” Warriors voice piped up from literally behind them.

Legend whipped his head around so fast, he could’ve snapped his neck for all he knew.

“You what.”

Warriors stared at Legend with a bored expression.

“Yeah- showed up in the War, right into the middle of battle, might I add. Almost cut her head off, he had appeared outta nowhere.” Warriors drowsed, peering at the trio of heroes staring at him with a mixture of interest (Four), shock (Sky), and fury with a mix of shock and joy (Legend).

“Okay, first of all Warriors. What the FUCK-”

EXTRA EXTRA BONUS (This was orginally going to go in, but it was much better as an outtake.)

Then suddenly, he was free.

And his face was mashed into the mud.

He coughed and sputtered, shaking himself of the mud.

“Oh hey- we’re in my hyrule!” Wild exclaimed.

“WHY DID I HAVE TO LAND IN MUD?!” came Warriors’s shriek.

Legend spat out a chunk of mud, standing up with as much grace as he had respect for the goddess. (spoiler alert, it was none.) And groaned at the sunny day that greeted him.

He smirked upon noticing Warriors appearance. Mud caked his hair and his clothes where a rumpled mess.

“Looks like pretty boy isn’t pretty any more. I guess now your nickname is boy.” “LEGEND I SWEAR TO THE GODDESS-” “You know I don’t care about the goddess Warriors.” “LEGEND!”

And to you, who has scrolled this far. If you wish to locate more gift fics, look for the LU4thGiftX tag or here on AO3. (It'll also be in the server!!)

The four (five) chaotic raccoons in a trench coat.

My Fic MasterList

Also, thanks to @arsonisticscholar with THIS POST for inspiring this fic. It was really fun to write!

I wanted to try out some different headcanons and ideas for Four's pov, so here: (Also Four is a they/them) Red Green Blue Vio Shadow Four Another thing, Four is not a DID system. Four is their own person (Hylian?) and the colors (Plus shadow) ARE Four. Four is not the colors. Their eyes change depending on which trait is being shown. Like they shine more red when They're being compassionate and more violet when they are strategizing. Also, Shadow is in Four's shadow, and has no physical form. But he is there for the ride!

It started out innocently enough.

But then, Vio ruined everything. Because of course that sneaky dramatic bastard did.

Four had been traveling with the past heroes for, well a while now. (Ha that rhymed. Shut up Green.) And Four had not revealed his ability to split. But, since they had grown and considered the heroes brothers, they wanted to tell them. So, they sat off to the side of the campfire one day, thinking about how they wanted to tell the other heroes.

We could just split in front of them! With no reason? It would make more sense to do it in a battle. Yeah, plus you need more flare. How about we just bring it up in one of their 'comparing adventures' talk? Doubt they would even hear us over Warrior's loud mouth. Hey don't be so mean Blue!

Four hummed quietly, jolting when they felt a hand on their shoulder. Looking up, they met Wild's scarred face. He held out a bowl of soup, and Four took it carefully. Doing their best to not spill it. As they ate their soup, which tasted like potatoes and vegetables, they tuned back in to the colors and Shadow. The lack of Vio was disturbing, as he had not said a word yet.

What if we told all the links separately, make them think only they know. Vio finally chimed in. Yes! Now that's the kind of flare and drama we want.

Uh, that's kind of mean.. Yeah, I agree with Red. They're our brothers! You son of a bitch. I'm in.

So it's three against two, Four?

I mean, that is kind of mean.. but also would be really funny.

Four against two. Nice pun. No one cares Green. I care! Who we telling first? Why not do Wind first? I always feel like Wind is left out of all secrets.

Four smiled, looking at Wind as he waved his hands energetically as he talked with Hyrule.

The day was sunny and warm. Wind strolled next to Four in the back of the line. They had been in an unknown time, somewhere between Twilight and Time, and as they strolled through Hyrule Field, Four cleared his throat.

"Hey Wind?" Wind turned to look at Four, who was glancing around like he was scared of someone eavesdropping. Wind glanced at the other heroes, the closest being Warriors and Legend, both loudly arguing over something again.

"Yeah? What's up Four?"

"I, I have a secret that I haven't told anyone." Four started and Wind perked up curiously. Normally, Wind isn't the first person to trust with secrets, as he had been apparently the last to know about Wolfie. He was curious and kind of excited that Four was trusting him.

"You can count on me to keep your secret!" Wind whispered quietly. "I promise no one else will ever know or hear it from my mouth!"

Four smiled, his multicolored eyes flashing more purple (Four always claimed that it was violet, like one of the colors on his tunic.) then the normal swirl.

"I am four raccoons in a trench coat. I guess five raccoons? But really the fifth doesn't count."

(Shadow blew in an offended gasp and huffed quietly.)

Wind blinked momentarily, his brain trying to process what Four just said.

"Wait, you mean you're not even Hylian?!" Wind whispered.

Four just smirked. "I guess that's up to your interpretation."

Then Four walked in silence, leaving Wind to brew over the words. He never clarified what he meant.

Next on the list was Time. But Four also wanted to get another hero. So They devised a plan to tell Time during one of the watches, while another hero was awake.

They waited a while, keeping a careful eye out on Time's watch for any awake heroes. They finally got the moment. It was in Wild's time, Time was sitting staring at the fire, and Warriors was moving just a little to much to be asleep. In fact, Four noticed his eyes fluttering open and closed.

***

Time was staring at the fire, his ears perked for strange noises. He heard Warriors shuffling a bit, and Sky snored quietly next to Hyrule. Suddenly, he heard groaning and shuffling of someone getting up. Turning around, he saw Four blearily walk towards him and taking a seat next to him. Facing the fire. Its light cast a soft glow on the surrounding heroes, bathing Warriors and Wild in an orange light, as they were the closest to the fire.

"Hello there little one." Time murmured as Four sat next to him.

"Hey Time? I need to tell you something." Four begain in a slightly husky voice. Time quietly turned to face Four curiously and waited for him to continue.

"I haven't told anyone yet... but I can split." Four explained quietly. Time tilted his head waiting for Four to explain.

"I can like, split myself and become four different versions of, well, myself. All my adventures had something to do with the spliting. Due to one of my adventures, I was split for so long that I sometimes gets headaches if I don't split for a while." Four explained, holding out his hands to the fire.

"Have you split recently?" Time asked, seeing Four nod.

"Yeah. I have."

They both sat in silence for a bit. Then Time asked a question that was burning inside of him.

"Does anyone else know?" Time asked.

Four shook his head. "No, not yet."

Time nodded. "Take your time in telling them."

They sat in silence again, listening to the crackling of the fire. Four got up and excused himself, walking back to his sleeping bag. Time stopped him before he went.

"Hey Four? Thank you for being brave and telling me." Time smiled gently.

Four smiled back, tucking himself in. Three down, six to go.

***

Warriors was very sure that he wasn't meant to hear that conversation, but as Time gently woke him up for the next shift, he sat quietly by the fire. His eyes flicking towards the smallest hero's form sleeping quietly.

He wondered if he should tell Four he over heard or not. He descided that Four would tell him later anyways, and he should respect his space, but he also didn't want to lie to his fellow hero.

He sighed quietly, looking up to the star filled sky.

What should I do?

Warriors did in fact tell Four the truth the next day, and was met with a lot less hostility then he was expecting. Just a smiled and a 'Thank you for telling me'.

It was after telling Time and Warriors that another joined the train of supporting the idea.

This is actually pretty fun! See, I knew you would see sense you fellow chaos incarnate. I mean, it is kind of fun, but I still feel a little bad about lying to them. You'll understand soon Green. That's ominous.

***

Hyrule yawned blinking at the shining sun. He covered his eyes at the bright light, taking a moment to gather where he was.

He saw the familiar walls of Malon's and Time's house spread before him. Noticing that Wind had probably already woken up and Four was quietly reading a book in the corner. Four glanced up at him as he stretched, sitting up in the comfortable bed. He could feel his magic replenished after the battle last night, ready and hovering at his fingertips ready to be used.

"Hey, good morning Hyrule. Did you sleep well?" Four asked, his eyes gleaming red and green in the sunlight.

Hyrule nodded. "Yeah. I am back to my full strength again." Hyrule smiled, cracking his neck quietly.

Four smiled, starting to stand up and leave, but he stopped in the doorway. Turning, Four stared at Hyrule with an intense expression.

"Hey Hyrule? Can I tell you something?" Hyrule tilted his head much like what Wolfie does.

"Yeah of course!"

"Well, hmmm. How do I phrase this... Take my name, but litterally." Four explained.

Hyrule blinked not knowing how to take that information. "Uh wh-" Hyrule trailed off noticing Four was already gone. He sat in the bed staring at the doorway blankly for a few minutes, processing what just happened. He came down a bit later, giving Four a confused glance as he sat down. Soon though, his attention was on all the delicious food Wild and Malon had made.

Four found Wild as he sat on top of the roof. A crisp cool air ruffled his long hair as he watched the sky. Below Wild could see the village laid out, seeing Legend and Twilight and some of the other heroes rushing to and fro in Hateno Village.

Four sat next to Wild, the smaller not making much noise as they surveyed the land.

"Hey Wild? Can I tell you something?" Four asked suddenly, and Wild blinked, jerking his head towards the smaller hero.

"Huh? Oh. Yeah! Of course what's up?"

Four scratched his neck, his eyes gleaming a mix of red and violet. (Wild swears that's violet. Violet is so much more bluer then purple!) "Okay, so imagine yourself, but there are more of you." Four simply said, gestering to himself. Wild stared at him blankly. "That's my life."

They sat in silence as the rest of the heroes marched back from a successful shopping trip. Trying to understand what Four had said kept Wild thinking about it and getting distracted. He was so distracted that he almost cut himself. Twilight glanced at him worriedly and he brushed it off as 'just being happy to be back!'.

Wild couldn't wrap his head around it.

If there were more of me, that would be everyone's worse nightmare.

Legend always thought Four was a little odd. His dislike of magic swords, his height, his hatred of a special pepper (Legend would even call it a fear), muttering to himself and so on. He always considered himself to be very observant, knowing when to push and when to pull, but he didn't know what to do about Four. The oddest part though was that Four was... somehow familiar to Legend which frankly scared him.

It wasn't until Four had slide up to him did he pay any mind to his thoughts. He noticed Four looking nervous, but he could also see something else well hidden in his eyes. Mischief.

"Oh no, what have you, Wind, Hyrule or Wild done now." Legend said, crossing his arms amused. Four grinned.

"Well, I haven't done anything yet. But I wanted to tell you something." Four said. Legend stared at the colorful hero.

"So, basically I can be in multiple places at once." Four said, and Legend stared at Four not knowing how to process that.

(I mean, you're not technically wrong..)

Four grinned at Legend's expression, hopping off and leaving a flabbergasted Legend staring after him. Then Legend's eyes flickered over to see Wild just as Twilight called out.

"WAIT WILD NO-"

Twilight hummed as he strolled through the street, Four stood close nearby as they hurried. There weren't many hylians out, so they were easily able to navigate through.

"All we need is some apples.." Twilight said thoughtfully, his eyes scanning for the red fruit.

Four gasped. "I see some over there" He pointed to a green stand with the red fruit. Twilight and Four hurried over, buying the apples and leaving some rupees for the owner.

"We have everything Wild asked for, lets go back to the inn." Twilight smiled, putting the apples in a bag. As the two made their way over to the inn, Four nudged Twilight. Twilight looked down at Four who pointed towards the nearby forest.

"Four? Something wrong?" Twilight asked. Four thought a moment.

"Well, first I want to show you something and second, I need to do something first." Four said, dragging Twilight over.

The two moved into the forest, finding a clearing surrounded by a thick wall of trees.

"Here." Four said, and Twilight glanced around noting that it was just leaves, rocks and trees.

"What?-" Twilight started, looking back at Four to see him draw his blade and point it towards the sky. A sudden flash of light erupted and Twilight stood there blinking dazedly as Four glowed several different colors and noticed how they split off. When the light cleared, Twilight blinked staring at now four separate Fours. Each looked exactly the same with the only difference being their main theme of color. Twilight noticed how all the Fours wore seperate clothes, the blue one wearing all blue, the green one wearing all green, and so on. There were a green one, a blue one, a purple one, and a red one. All their headbands were different colors also, each one corresponding to their color scheme. Twilight also noticed that none of the four Fours were wearing the colorful tunic, as they all had one color from the orginal tunic.

"Uhm-" Twilight started before he was interrupted by the blue Four.

"Wow Vio, very creative idea. Totally unoriginal. I'm sure that none of us ever possibly thought of this." The blue Four complained.

"I didn't see you coming up with any ideas!" Vio, or the purple Four resorted.

"Hey, now we don't need to fight right? I mean I'm sure Twilight is very confused." The red Four stated, waving his hands and getting between the blue Four and Vio.

The final one, one wearing a green tunic, walked up to Twilight. "Hi, sorry about them. They are... my siblings? Me? I'll just call them siblings. Hi, I'm Green, I know a very creative name, you can thank Red. The two arguing over there is Blue and Vio, and the one who is trying to stop them is Red." Green waved. "Okay now how to explain? Well we are Four. Its as simple as that. If you want more details, you can probably ask Vio, but unless you have all day to listen, I wouldn't recommend."

"Now the colors make sense I guess." Twilight chuckled.

Red grinned at him, Blue huffed and crossed his arms, Green laughed and Vio shot Twilight an unreadble expression.

"No one else knows about this." Vio started. Red chimed in. "Yeah we need you to keep a secret!"

Blue and Green looked slightly uncomforable, but nodded. Green a half second later then Blue. Twilight smiled.

"You can count on me!"

Four grinned. Eight down, one more to go! Okay, I agree this is fun. See I knew you would see sense soon! We're running out of things to say... Why don't we just tell Sky the truth. But we have been? No no no. Not like that... Oh that's evil. What can I say, I've been practicing. And you've had one of the best tutors! Four rolled his eyes playfully.

He tried to approach Sky several times, but never was able to get close enough yet. He was finally able to get his chance when the chain had landed on Tetra's ship. Wind had eagerly introduced the heroes to Tetra before, so Tetra didn't even bat an eye at the sudden arrivals. Instantly, she let them settle down (with the exception of Wind who she instantly put to work and he energetically followed) in the hull of the ship. The other heroes were up on the deck, with the only ones being Legend and Sky. The former hiding somewhere in the back end of the hull and the former being in the front of the hull.

Four moved towards Sky, stopping to stand right next to him.

Sky looked up at Four, smiling weakly. Four waved and stood next to Sky, leaning over to take a closer look at what Sky was doing. Sky had been carving a small wooden statue. Upon a closer look, Four noticed that it looked eerily like Tetra.

"Hey Four." Sky smiled tiredly.

Four smiled. "Hey, I wanted to tell you something."

"Do I tell the others? No? My lips are shut!" Sky sat straight miming zipping his lips.

"I've been telling the heroes my secret but also telling them that they are the only one who knows. Do what you what you will with this information." Four said, grinning as they saw Sky stiffen, and simply turned away and walked off.

Sky stared after the small colorful hero, blinking wildly thinking over what Four just said.

Wait I'm sorry. What? What secret?! Sky shook his head, confusion sweeping over him.

Well, I guess that makes sense why all the heroes have been doing their best to help Four, or at least Time, Warriors, Legend and Twilight...

**

Four practically cackled out of sight at the entire antics. He could hear the colors also laughing and snorting at the full on confusion that was going on.

You know we're going to get busted soon right? Yeah, but it was fun and so worth it. It was fun! Now, should we make a bet to see how long it takes for them to find out? We literally share a wallet. Yeah but its still funny. I would say maybe two weeks? Nah gotta be shorter then that. What about until our next switch! That's not very specific.

In the end, both Red and Four were right, as it was at the next switch, two weeks later, that they were busted.

But they all had their fun.
