okay weird question for the hardenshipping community

how do y’all handle maxie’s motivations? specifically in the case of his oras version. i know they were going really hard for an Extreme Opposites thing with him and archie in oras but the “doesn’t care at all about pokemon” vibe rubs me the wrong way, especially when his rse version referred to the land as the cradle of life for both humans and pokemon

like. i love maxie but as a nature/animal lover myself i struggle with his motivations sounding like that of a ceo of an oil drilling company lmao

(I also don’t like the implication that science and nature are Fully Opposed and are mutually exclusive but that’s neither here nor there)

so do you guys tweak his motivations in your headcanons? if so, how?

but anyways I asked a similar question on tumblr before u can also use the rbs and replies there for ref I found leaning on his motives for humanity can be done without him going “grrrrr Pokémon in my way” so removing it works he becomes like this workers/human living rights guy if that makes sense Or you can go the science route and wanting to repair and conserve Pokémon but in a land way that needs groudon Or combine both or where maybe he wants to make more land for habitation of both which is tbh just the rse one tldr I think just making him be nice to Pokémon can be done without contradicting the humanity thing
