The most “boys will be boys” things the gang do
• Steve, Soda, Dally, and Darry stay walking around half naked, ESPECIALLY in the summer. Their shirts are never on. Soda’s jeans are unzipped half the time smh
• as much as they really really try, the Curtis boys are known for leaving their dirty laundry everywhere 😟 no matter how messy they can be though, Two-Bit’s room will always be exponentially worse
• one time Steve and Soda wanted to see who could eat the most chocolate cake so they each ate a whole half of a cake and threw up later
• Johnny do not be washing his clothes 😭😭😭 it’s rly not his fault but Darry will offer to wash up some of his stuff with Ponyboy’s and Johnny will be like “no thank you it’s not that bad 🙂” bros jean jacket probably carries the plague
• they literally don’t stop eating. It’s canon that the Curtis brothers all have big appetites, everyone else is just as bad. Most of their money goes to groceries bc they literally just eat and eat
• Ponyboy tries to lay in bed directly after track practice before showering bc he’s tired and Sodapop is appalled
• so so so many wrestling and football injuries. Pony’s always tripping and falling face first. Steve is a fucking pincher when they’re wrestling so Soda and Two-Bit always have little ass bruises on them from him 💀 during football Johnny is really good at slipping between people bc he can be pretty quick but one time he managed to take Steve down with him and they knocked their heads together
• Dally unfortunately enjoys driving around and yelling obscenities when he has Buck’s car. No one is off limits. He’ll trail behind Johnny and be like “ay what that mouth do” and Johnny just lets out the most defeated sigh
• Ponyboy and Curly were each other’s first kiss “for practice” and didn’t rly think much of it until they realized they’d only been kissing each other even tho they didn’t need practice anymore and never tried to get w anyone else 😭😭😭
• if Two-Bit sees any kind of animal worth catching in his mind like an armadillo or some shit he will indeed try to catch it and bring it to the Curtis house and Darry is just like if you don’t get that damn armadillo off my porch

Everyone sees the gang as 'tough' and shit, but I bet you they don't know that every Sunday they'll gather around the TV on Darry's day off to watch the Peanuts together at breakfast
One time Darry gave Ponyboy a black eye.
It was a complete accident. Darry was in the kitchen doing dishes and Ponyboy snuck up behind him as he finished putting a plate away, and (mostly due to their height difference) just absolutely elbowed him right in the face.
It got really dark and swollen, so the gang obviously noticed, and when they asked what happened, Ponyboy was like "Oh, Darry did it, 😔" and gave no further context, so Darry had to quickly explain to them that it was an accident and he did not in fact left hook his little brother in the face.
Soda is that teenager who follows his mom around the house yapping and perches on the end of her bed at unholy hours of the night, still yapping.
Except it’s Darry. Darry is mom. It’s 3 AM, Darry has the covers pulled over his head, and Soda is still standing in the corner yapping about his day.
Ponyboy: Bye Johnny! Bye Darry! Bye Dallas! Bye Sodapop! Bye Steve. Bye Two-Bit! Bye Johnny!

Love the dichotomy of Darry Curtis. He’s big and tough and will mess you up without remorse. He eats chocolate cake for breakfast. His little brother hates him. His middle brother adores him. He’s smart and capable, with a bright future ahead of him. He roofs houses. He’s the frontman at a rumble. He carries his baby brother to bed. He’s mean, he’s dangerous, he’s a hood. He leaves the front door unlocked for anyone who needs a place to crash. He does backflips off the front porch. He doesn’t cry in front of people. He’s afraid of losing his family. He likes fights. He’s scared.

cognitive empathy . . .
ー cognitive empathy is understanding someone's thoughts and/or feelings. this is when you intellectually understand what someone else is feeling, without necessarily feeling it yourself.
ー example: imagine your co-worker is nervous before giving a big presentation. you don't necessarily feel nervous yourself, but you understand why they feel that way, so you offer them encouragement.
ー how it feels: you recognize the emotion/feeling logically. "ah, they are anxious because of the pressure" ー but you are emotionally neutral or calm about it.
emotional (or affective) empathy . . .
ー emotional empathy is feeling with someone. this is when you actually feel the other person's emotions, as if you were experiencing it yourself.
ー example: your friend bursts into tears after a breakup. as you comfort them, you suddenly feel heavy, heartbroken, and your own tears start to well up, even though it's not your breakup.
ー how it feels: your emotional state mirrors theirs. it might feel automatic and intense, almost as if you are "catching" their emotion.
compassionate empathy . . .
ー compassionate empathy is feeling and acting to help. this type of empathy combines understanding & emotional feeling, with the desire to help and take action.
ー example: you see someone on the street shivering without a coat in the winter. you feel bad for them (emotional empathy) and feel motivated to give them your scarf/buy them something warm (action).
ー how it feels: there is a strong pull in your chest, an urge to do something to ease another person's suffering or problems.
