Curate, connect, and discover
I’ve been searching you 4ever and now I know it’s you who wrote that thing bout shanks I looked at one of people I follow and they reblogged with their own meta about panel with mihawk When he goes and meets shanks He has the same thing going on The scar cover The meta said shanks has to feel guilty for losing arm and now he can’t finish rivalry with shanks Shanks still wants to duel but it will never happened
What do you think? Since you wrote so much about the theory I ask u Finally it’s you I found you
hi, thank you so much for sending this!! i'm glad you were able to find me, and i'm sorry for making you wait so long for a reply, but i'm here now!
i'm glad you brought this to my attention; i honestly didn't remember the existence of this panel, but you're right in saying it looks a lot like the ones i analyzed in this post, so i will briefly explain what i think about it.
there's something that sets this panel apart from the ones i included in my meta post, and it's the context in which it's placed. in this particular moment, the reader is meant to see shanks from mihawk's point of view, while still maintaining a sense of suspence: mihawk isn't afraid of shanks, but he's still alert while approaching him; at the same time, the reader still doesn't know who mihawk came to look for, and the scar is a very distinct characteristic that would kind of "spoil" the reveal. i think the scar was hidden mainly as a way to keep the suspense high, to put it simply.
i don't think the fact his scar is covered is linked to his missing arm, or his rivalry with mihawk in general. however, it's true that mihawk was seeking out shanks to inform him about luffy's bounty, so the paneling might have also been used as a little callback to the moment when shanks lost his arm in the first chapter!
in conclusion, you were right, anon, in pointing out how the panel mirrors the ones from chapter 1 and chapter 434; however, while those two instances were meant to portray shanks's weakness, i think this one does the exact opposite: it channels strength, in a way that is characteristic of shanks throughout the whole manga.
Is it alright to sketch you something on strawpage even if I’m not your mutual?
of course it is!!! i will share it on here too, if you're comfortable with it! thank you <3
[also if you're a one piece blog (and don't fit my dni criteria) i will usually follow back, i love making new mutuals :)]
Is law/lu proship? Why people separate this? I don’t ship it but you’re 6 person I see this in bio
i personally separate law/lu from the proship label because most people who ship it don't see it as a proship; i just like to make myself extra clear when it comes to my do not interact criteria
I sent your shuggy meta to someone in ask because they talked about shanks caring about buggy. Hope it was fine to do 🙏
it's totally fine! in fact i appreciate it!! it makes me happy some of you think about my posts enough to want to send them to someone else <3 so thank you!!
what's your favorite op arc?
WELL. my answer changes pretty frequently to be honest. but i think my favorite manga arc right now is impel down!!! i like the pacing and most of the characters are really enjoyable, plus the dynamic between luffy, buggy, galdino and bon clay makes me love it even more <3
when it comes to the anime, the arc i find myself rewatching the most is wano, i love the storytelling and the regular pov changes help me stay focused. but once again another reason i like it so much is because of the characters... i love the luffy + kid + law trio too much
it's not easy for me to choose a favorite arc overall because my way of engaging with media is through the characters; every arc is good to me if i get to see my favorite characters doing their thing on screen!
Your shuggy meta broke my heart, stitched it up together and broke it again. It’s so beautiful, I hope it is actually that deep in canon, but there’s no way it isn’t. This could not be an accident.
omg thank you so So much for this, i didn't think i would be able to make anyone feel like this with my writing but this is such a pleasant surprise!!! thank you anon <3
and yes, i always question myself when writing this type of posts; i'm always like "is this actually meant to be that deep?", sometimes i even get stuck while writing analyses because i'm afraid of looking like a moron that twists the most frivolous aspects of canon in a desperate attempt to make everything about their ship. but then i regain consciousness and realize subtext is a thing that actually Exists, and authors deliberately use techniques like that all the time to highlight aspects of a character's nature without having to make explicit statements.
so while i surely am afraid to end up looking like a fool if oda chooses not to do anything meaningful with shanks and buggy and just leaves their relationship stranded, i will never stop bringing up all the little things that keep them connected, in spite of everything, after all these years. there's no way those are written into the narrative without a sliver of purpose.
