There’s a lot of discussion on Yamato’s gender. And the one take I see particularly often when it’s brought up, is about how Kaido ‘forced’ Yamato to be a man.

So, I wanted to explore this train of thought. And explain why this just isn’t true.

First, let’s explore every time Yamato has been referred to by feminine pronouns/gender.

Within the canon of the text, these are the only times Yamato has been called female, daughter, or princess.

The first time is right after Yamato is properly introduced to the audience, and is following a panel where Luffy questions his gender.

Here, Yamato explicitly says that he chose to be a man, like Oden was.

So it appears that the introduction Oda box was more to indicate Yamato’s birth sex, to confirm to the audience that yes, he was born a woman. But Yamato himself is confirming that while he was born female, he is choosing to identify himself as a man, due to how Oden inspired him.

After this moment, Luffy affirms Yamato’s gender by calling him by the nickname “Yama-o”, which is what he calls Law and Kid by as well.

i love the idea of sabo and law running into each other repeatedly during the timeskip, especially if it's during one of sabo's missions. i want this boy to be silly and have fun so he can ignore the pain that's corroding him from the inside even more than usual, and who would be a better partner-in-crime than trafalgar law himself?

p.s. this was supposed to be kiiind of a "parallel" to day 4 (same but opposite composition, the contrast between teen sabo and ya sabo, etc) but i don't think any person outside of my own self would get it. i'm just too stupid

based on my headcanon that sabo isn't that good at fishman karate- well, he is, but he got rusty after focusing on other types of combat with dragon- so koala would always spar with him only to kick his butt everytime, resulting in sabo growing frustrated. definitely a cherished memory for him

i unfortunately don't have a lot to say about them, because most of my thoughts about them are for my bf and i's modern au, but i really wanted to include them in here because i think they deserve to be more popular and i want people to know this ship exists!!

i mean, revolutionary x marine? and it's two girls? perfect dynamic. and their relationship starts exactly like you'd imagine it to: they hate each other's guts. but they're also insanely attracted to each other. so they start telepathically playing a game of "who's going to fall first" except they both fall at the same time. and then they would have to keep their relationship a secret, because they obviously don't want anyone finding out about the fact doll, a marine, is kind of seeing a revolutionary army executive. that would be catastrophic for the both of them.

so, yeah. enemies *and* lovers. the inherent romanticism of having to hide your relationship. and also the fact that belo betty would be able to open doll's eyes on the damage the marines are doing. love wins

i love yuri rarepairs <3 perona is one of my favorite characters so i couldn't not include the main ship i have for her!

i think what perona needs in a partner is someone that's able to match her levels of silliness. she's very outgoing and has no filter, so i feel like the best match for her would be someone that would be intrigued by these traits of hers, rather than bothered by them. thinking about this is what made me come to the conclusion that koala would be her perfect match! she's as extroverted as perona, maybe a bit warmer and a bit less easygoing, but those little differences are what make them click so well.

also, i feel like both of them lack a girl friend. like, a friend who's a girl. they both deserve someone who understands them and helps the other destress. i'm sure constantly dealing with zoro and mihawk stresses perona out a lot, and the same goes for koala, who's forced to always look after sabo; they need a space to relax and feel cared for. i just believe they could easily think of each other as a safe place. they would be the greatest slowburn relationship ever... acquaintances to friends to best friends to lovers but it's. like. in the span of years. because both of them would be too scared the other doesn't reciprocate their feelings to actually properly confess. i love them so much

i don't get how people could think that law is going to be part of the strawhats. he has his own crew. are the heart pirates nothing to them? do these people just ignore their existence, or do they think law is the type to, i don't know, abandon them forever to go be part of another pirate crew? law would never do that, and never in his life has he shown interest in doing that. he's not going to be part of the straw hat pirates. he has his own thing going on, he said it multiple times.

god i just cannot be normal about them. they make me insane. paradoxically, the more i'm fixated on a ship the harder it seems to find the words to talk about them. seeing them or even thinking about them at all just makes my mind shut down lol. but i'll try my best to write something that isn't a nonsensical ramble about how they make my brain short circuit <3

something i love about them is how insanely close they seem to be. actually, that's the main reason i ship them. every moment one of them is on screen, the other is there too, right beside him. it's something so comforting but also so concerning, not in a bad way of course, but in a "what the fuck is wrong with them /affectionate" way. and the thing is, nothing's wrong with them, they're just like that! they've spent their whole life together, never a moment apart, so of course they're going to keep spending every waking moment attached to each other's hip. and the whole crew has just accepted it. no one ever questions it, it's just a given that they'll always be carrying out their missions together.

actually, we saw someone questioning it once, in the first chapter of law novel's second installment. i've been meaning to talk about this in a (long overdue) separate post, so i won't go into detail on it, but this is the gist of it. when something kept the two of them apart for the first time, it was an actual disaster. both of them almost cried in front of the rest of the crew because they were made to sleep in separate rooms, and they weren't used to it; penguin was the more mature one about it, but when shachi started to complain about the decision, penguin almost cried. law, bepo and hakugan laughed at shachi, because the whole thing was so stupid to them: i mean, a 17 year old crying about not being able to sleep in the same room as his buddy? but penguin didn't laugh. he made fun of shachi a bit, but then there he was, trying his hardest to keep his composure and not end up getting ridiculed like shachi did. yeah. i can't believe this moment is canon either.

what i'm trying to say is, they've both proved, in different ways, that their bond is very, very important to them. it's essential to their wellbeing, i'd say. they just work better together, and no one is allowed to come between them. that's exactly what i love about them.

second baby 5 ship in a row! she's one of my favorites so i love giving her partners she can be obsessed with </3 as i said before, nothing wrong with sai x baby 5, i just prefer a different dynamic when it comes to baby 5 ships!

baby 5 and bart aren't as random as some of my other rarepairs, since they were together in dressrosa. it's such a shame we never got the chance to see them interacting :( they could have had a really fun dynamic... imagine baby 5 falling in love at first sight with bart, while he's so weirded out by it at first, but then becomes kind of intrigued. ohhh i'm so not normal about them. i'm sorry

we know baby 5's taste in men is peculiar to say the least, so bartolomeo could be a perfect target for her attention. maybe while they were dealing with doflamingo's birdcage bart shot baby 5 a compliment, not thinking much of it, and she absolutely fell for him. and then baby 5's usual shenanigans ensued. like, her telling him how he's so sweet and respectful and they should get married, while bartolomeo doesn't get any of it and is just so confused because he's not used to this type of attention at all... but then he warms up to her and starts telling her about his love for the strawhats and how he's so excited about finally meeting them in person (in true unfiltered autism fashion), and baby 5 just listens to him so attentively because she finds this side of him very endearing...

i love the idea of them together because they're just two people that are both seen as "weird" by society, even though the only unusual thing about them is that they have developed a way of showing their love that is so unfiltered and passionate in response to their difficult and traumatic past. even though they don't look like it at first glance, they share many similarities. they could have worked really well together in canon, too: the developing of their relationship could have been a breeding ground for many funny gags. oda you really fumbled the bag this time

this is definitely one of the rarest ships i have, since me and my boyfriend made them up for a modern au roleplay... they are very dear to me for this very reason <3

i know what you're thinking: i don't have anything against sai and baby 5 as a couple, i think they're very cute! however, i do find them a bit uninteresting when it comes to their dynamic. i think baby 5 deserves a partner that isn't embarrassed to show affection; to actually heal, she needs someone that's just as obsessed with her as she is with them, someone that's very devoted to her, in a "would shout my love for her from the rooftops" kind of way. from what we saw, sai is just too reserved and bashful to reciprocate baby 5's attention to the fullest. also, i can't lie, i just prefer wlw relationships over straight ones. not sorry!

tashigi might seem shy too at first, but she's also willing to go to war for the things she loves. she would be perfectly able to withstand baby 5's intense way of loving. in fact, she would build her entire lifestyle around it. she'd be obsessed with her girlfriend to insane degrees... always thinking about her and buying her gifts and doing whatever is in her power to go visit her as often as she could. she would do anything to see baby 5's smile. and baby 5 would do the same for tashigi because she's so, so in love with her. she would spend hours talking about her strong and beautiful girlfriend. i like to think about them going shopping together, baby 5 just going on and on about how strong tashigi is and how chivalrous it is for her to carry all of baby 5's shopping bags for her, while tashigi just blushes and tells her it's nothing compared to everything baby 5 does for her. just... insane and never before seen levels of mutual devotion.

every time i reread/rewatch punk hazard i find myself getting angry at the fact they could have met there but didn't. i Need to see them together. they would be such a powerful duo in fights too... the swordswoman and her weapon. i need to lie down

this is the rarest pair i have with buggy ><' i ship him with shanks and mihawk, and also with cabaji a bit, but i think him and galdino are the least popular ship with buggy i have.

i headcanon them as exes; they had a thing during the impel down arc and got together officially right after (buggy used it as a way to get over shanks, seeing him again after all that time made some feeling resurface and buggy wasn't too happy about that...). they split up on good terms, just realized they weren't that great for each other. it's a bit awkward now that they're both part of cross guild lmao

i think they could work well as a couple honestly. galdino is honest to a fault and that would spark some arguments for sure, and buggy's need to always get taken care of would tire galdino out in the long run, but other than that i genuinely think they would be good for each other. i totally can see them in a domestic setting, like, galdino cooking dinner while buggy folds the laundry or something. as we saw from their moments together during impel down, they're a fun duo: definitely the type of couple that would spice up a night out with friends with their constant banter (that would totally turn into an actual fight, give it, like, 20 minutes).
