What do you think about the main 4 heart pirates as a big polycule? As they've grown up together Law, Bepo, Penguin and Shachi might have experienced puberty together. 🤔❤️❤️❤️❤️
hi! sorry for taking so long to answer. real life got in the way
i think bepo should be kept out of this discussion because he's considerably younger than the other three (he was 9 when he met the others; law was 13, shachi was 14, and penguin was 15). as for the other three, i like to imagine them experimenting with romance and physical affection together, even though i think law would be a bit resistant and hesitant at first. he's generally not one to show affection explicitly, and would find the idea of "trying things out" with his only friends, the people he's closest to, very embarrassing. penguin and shachi have for sure tried to convince him though, since they're famously attracted to him...
anyway, this leaves us with only penguin and shachi, which isn't surprising coming from me lmao. but yeah, i think they would be open to experimenting together: they spend every moment together, and they share everything, so it's only natural for them to talk about these things and maybe even have their first experiences together. after all, something noticeable about them is that they basically have negative game. they're noticeably Not Good with ladies in canon. so it's safe to say they might have agreed to experimenting together romantically due to the lack of other options. the fact they end up falling in love in the process is a story for another time <3

i have a lot of gender-related headcanons when it comes to one piece characters but i can never find the chance to talk about them on here </3 tragic
Love your posts about Law ❤️. Talking about his love life: What do you think which type of partner would match best with him? Someone who takes care of him (kinda like Cora) or so he can take care of (like he does with his crew)?
thank you so much!!
i think law would love a good mix of both. he doesn't like feeling like a burden, so being taken care of would make him stress out about how to repay his partner; however, he's also a control freak, so being with someone that depends on him to the extent his crew does would drive him crazy lol
i personally ship him with sabo! it's definitely a rarepair (even though it's been gaining traction lately), but hear me out.
they would both take care of each other equally. they're both older brothers, so protecting others is something innately present in their behavior. their nurturing nature is ever-present, even when they "lose" their older brother role: law because of lami's passing, sabo because of losing his memories. after these traumatic events, they both take the role of the nurtured: cora starts taking care of law, while the members of the revolutionary army tend to sabo. and again, after a certain amount of time, they both return to their original older brother roles: law with the heart pirates, sabo when he reunites with luffy. this is the reason why i think they would both take care of each other equally, but not in an excessive way; they know how it feels to be on both ends of the spectrum. in fact, both law and sabo are pretty independent; they don't like having someone's constant attention on them, and just generally prefer to do their own thing, so personal space wouldn't be an issue to either of them. they'd know how to balance time together and time apart perfectly.
they share a lot of other similarities, (this post explains them all perfectly), but they're also different enough to make their dynamic interesting: sabo is very intense and impulsive, while law is very stoic, even though he obviously surrounds himself with very cheerful and carefree people. all in all, i think law would benefit a lot from sabo's presence in his life.
(this post was written with the help of @sabo-torao, who is, to me, one of the most important people in the sabolaw community on tumblr, so if you like this pairing you should check his blog out!)
god i can't believe i still haven't talked about That One penshachi moment from the new chapter of novel law on here...
This is not a hostile question btw!!! I’m just genuinely interested. Please forgive me if this is phrased awkwardly
Why do you think buggy’s grudge against Shanks is kind of justified? Do you think Shanks is at fault in their fall out?
Thank you!
talking about shanks and buggy's breakup is always tricky to me, but i'm glad you asked this, maybe writing about it will help me reorganize my feelings on the whole thing lol
when i look at it objectively, the whole situation reads just as a big misunderstanding. both shanks and buggy weren't transparent with their feelings, but couldn't hide them anymore in a moment of great distress such as roger's execution. they were both stupid teenagers who didn't think about the other's feelings and ended up paying the price for it.
however, looking at it from a subjective point of view, i just can't help sympathizing with buggy. he always felt outshined by shanks, but he had no reason to blame him for it. buggy trusted him: he trusted his judgement, he trusted that he would do great things in the future, but most importantly, he trusted him to stay by his side and protect him, as a partner but mainly as a friend. after all, shanks was buggy's first and only friend, of course he would think of his sudden change of heart as betrayal, and that's an harsh event to recover from.
not only did buggy just witness the death of his captain, but he also had to realize shanks was failing to meet the very high standards he held him to; for people who are as emotionally dysregulated as buggy is, that's going to be really hard to come to terms with. he also had no other plans for his life besides sailing with shanks, so there's that too. his worldview was basically shattered in a matter of minutes, and that's going to be devastating for anyone.
i know shanks probably felt a very similar way in that moment, but i still feel like buggy was the one that suffered the most because he wasn't held to as high standards as shanks was, so he probably didn't feel capable to come up with a new plan for himself as easily, but also because of, well, the way buggy is. that sudden perceived betrayal completely broke him, and that's why he acts the way he does now; i think that's enough to comprehend how much shanks truly meant to him and how essential shanks was to his life. i can't help but feel bad for him because he lost the person he trusted most, the only person he felt connected enough to want by his side, the person he swallowed his pride for and abandoned all his biggest dreams for. buggy basically let shanks rob him of his future once, and now he has to experience it all over again. that's too heartbreaking for me. at this point, i would find a way to excuse literally every single one of his actions. yes, even the time he damaged luffy's straw hat. after everything buggy endured because of shanks, that's a reasonable and justified crashout to me lol.
Hello! I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Shanks's morality, especially with regards to Chapter 1126 (also Chapters 1079 and 1) where his crew attacked the Barto Club (also the Kid pirates and the mountain bandits). One observation is that Shanks didn't make the killing blow himself and neither did he give an explicit order to kill. But I think that if Shanks really wanted to, he could have stopped his crew from going too far. So, what do you think goes on in his head during those scenes? Did he mean for his crew to kill those people? And how does he feel about killing people to save his friends?
Thanks in advance for your answer!!!
This is such a great question! Part of what makes Shanks so interesting is how he handles conflict; he has a very even temperament, and his priorities during any dispute are always A.) the safety of those he cares about, and B.) de-escalation. A takes precedence over B, of course, which we see firsthand in the mountain bandits incident.
When Higuma breaks a bottle over his head, Shanks' initial reaction is to be concerned on Makino's behalf, and to take the burden of the conflict off her shoulders by keeping her uninvolved. It's just plain ol' good character writing, because it shows exactly the type of person he is through the subtlety of his actions. Hell, he doesn't even let her touch the broken glass, instead choosing to pick it up himself -- a great visual to sum up Shanks, who is constantly the first to clean up the mess and take responsibility, so long as no one else gets hurt. (Note that Oda draws attention to the very same hand that Shanks ends up losing when he saves Luffy... nice foreshadowing.)
Then of course we get this gem of a one-liner from Shanks, which is just so effortlessly cool. As a pirate, Shanks knows conflict better than anyone, which is why he explicitly tells Luffy not to resort to violence in situations where it is unnecessary. I really like this too, because it shows how Shanks is always walking the middle ground; he's not "above" violence, but he's not going to go around punching every guy he sees, because that proves nothing but incompetence. In a battle of egos, Shanks is the man with the level head; he knows exactly how powerful he is and refuses to stoop any lower for the sake of pride. It's not vanity -- it's just the truth.
However, when the mountain bandits target Luffy, Shanks' crew does not hesitate to use violence in order to protect him, as well as the village. Something I also find interesting is that Shanks does not lift a finger up until the brush with the sea king; his crew is always willing to step in on his behalf when needed, and this is because of who he is as a person and a leader.
Shanks is not hot-headed, but he's certainly no pushover. As an emperor, he knows what he must do when someone invades his territory and burns his flag -- otherwise, he wouldn't have territory to begin with. Note here how he mentions who specifically it would impact if he let Bartolomeo's actions slide: friends and allies. Again, in any conflict, the safety of those he cares about takes precedence. So, naturally, he has no choice but to teach them all a lesson.
As you mentioned, he did not give explicit orders to sink Bartolomeo's ship, but given the nature of Shanks' relationship with his crew, I highly doubt they would ever do something that Shanks actively disagreed with. It's really just a matter of lightening the load by handling certain matters for him. (Which is really thoughtful, actually, when you consider how bogged down by responsibility Shanks is. Gives him one less thing to worry about.)
We should also remember that this is One Piece. If Oda makes it unclear whether or not a character has survived, there's a very good chance they're alive and well. So I don't think that Yasopp was shooting to kill, and I don't think we've seen the last of Kidd or Barto either. But, hypothetically, I do think Shanks would kill to save someone he cared about if he knew there was no other way out of the conflict. While Shanks mostly aims to de-escalate, he does not hesitate to retaliate against anyone who harms friends or allies. But for Shanks, figuratively speaking, I think it's less about the act of killing and more about putting himself in the line of fire. Violence (with the intent to kill) reads as an extension of his self-sacrificial tendencies to me, because Shanks does not enjoy it.
The first time we witness any serious, violent action from Shanks, it is directly triggered by the stress/anxiety from seeing a sudden vision of his allies and crew getting blown to bits. I would say he panics, even, but others might disagree. (Check out chapter one again, though -- Shanks totally freaks out when he loses sight of Luffy, too. He loses his cool when the people he cares about are unexpectedly put in danger.)
So, if Shanks were to kill, I would imagine it would be in a very dire situation where the threat is imminent and the consequence of not acting fast enough would be many, many deaths -- or perhaps just the death of a friend/ally. Then it is likely that he would put himself in harm's way instead, either to deliver the killing blow or die trying.
Do you see Law as ace (sexual)? 👀
i personally don't, but i like the headcanon! i see him as allosexual and alloromantic. i feel like it's easy for him to experience attraction, he just forces himself to keep it very private. he has so much love to give, he's just afraid of letting it out because of what happens to all the people he loves. that's tragic but also weirdly beautiful to me. i love law so much
Who would you date from One Piece?🤔
oh i have multiple answers to this question LMAO
i'm not one to think about these things frequently, but i still have a lot of options in my mind. though i'm an extremely difficult person emotionally so i'm not sure they would want to date me lol
the first one to come to mind, for some reason, is shachi. i think his physical features match my ideal type the best (ginger hair, big smile, and i also assume he has downturned eyes... so cute). he's very cheerful, always knows how to make the best of a bad situation and is generally very relaxed, which are all things i like in a partner. he also likes to party which i personally find very attractive for some reason, maybe because, on the contrary, i'm always home lmao.
another character i would love to date is usopp. again, extremely attractive physically (yes i really like big noses), but his personality is a big part of it. i just love when characters are not that confident in themselves, it just makes me drawn to them. also i feel like he would be great at taking care of a potential partner, because he's very in touch with his emotions.
i can't end this post without talking about sabo. i admit this is because my partner is very similar to him so i'm kind of biased; i basically just see him whenever i look at sabo and it just made me fall in love with sabo as a consequence. in general though, i find sabo very charming, i'm sure he would take great care of me and would match the more capricious sides of me very well.
believe me, i would LOVE to date ace or law. they're my romantic comfort characters for a reason! but realistically, i don't think our personalities would be that compatible. i mean, i ship ace with deuce, who i consider very similar to me, but i think i just lack the patience necessary to deal with ace unfortunately </3. also me and law are just way too similar in multiple ways, which would be good in a sense but also kind of boring, you know? oh, and i'm also deeply in love with baby 5, but we suffer from the same kind of mental illness so it would just be negatively insane and chaotic.
I know you said you personally dont see Lawlu as a pro ship but I was wondering if you knew what the arguments for it being one would be?
Just geniunly curious in an abstract sort of way. New to fandom and still trying to figure out all the terminology
i think the main argument would be that when they first met, luffy, being 17, was still a minor, while law was 24. i generally tend to distance myself from the topic entirely because the ship makes me uncomfortable on a personal level more than anything else
good luck navigating fandom spaces! it may seem hard at first, but you will get used to it in no time, i'm sure!
Here are all the requests I got the other day! This was super fun! I can totally see myself doing it again some time in the future.
+ The sketches and some exploration / warm-ups underneath
^ I did two exploration sketches for Penguin & Shachi! They're a package deal so of course it was always gonna be both of them. You can also see a random Yonji for warm-up lol. These also gave me the chance to practice a few art stuff I've wanted to work on!
Sanji kicking Luffy might be unironically my favorite gestural drawing I've done so far. Thank you for that one!
I got to explore a more complex pose / interaction between 2 characters with Shachi and Penguin + downward head angles!
Caesar has some funny perspective / foreshortening with the proto-SMILE in his hand (also, I chose to draw young Caesar since I've already drawn his current design plenty of times lol).
And with Baby 5, I wanted to work with curve & line flow! I chose to go for her instead of Usopp since I draw him like, all the time lmao.
It was all fun! Thank you everyone who sent in requests!
heart pirates dumpppp :D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY VIVI!!!
i've only managed to do this simple doodle bc i've been so, so busy with work... but i did everything in my power to be able to post something for my queen <3
additional scribbles under the cut!
a namivivi one bc i love them and vivi deserves all the kisses and hugs nami can give her, and a vivi and deuce one bc today is also deuce's unofficial birthday!!! i love them both dearly they deserve to meet each other and be friends. but alas
i received a lot of asks in the past few days! i'm very thankful obviously, i love interacting with other one piece fans. however, i feel the need to clarify something.
i might end up not answering every ask i get; there's a lot of them, and i'm often not inspired enough to write and post an actual answer. sometimes i'm just not interested in a theory enough to write something about it, and sometimes i get questions i just... don't feel like answering, for multiple reasons. just wanted to clarify that it's nothing personal if i end up not answering your question.
Vibes for this chapter:
Now that my hands have stopped shaking, here are my main take aways. This is gonna be a super long word vomit, so just be prepared:
Shamrock is aware of Shanks (they might have met) and seems disappointed that Shanks likes chilling with ✨the commoners✨
If Shamrock’s sword has the Cerberus-Cerberus Fruit, that means that the theory of Blackbeard having it is debunked
The Shiki-looking figure made a reappearance when Luffy was talking about Shank’s family and seems to be approaching the castle, so we might meet them soon
THE MURAL AND HARLEY
I wonder if there will be a specific character that made the mural, who we’ll be introduced to later. Ripley’s line about “a child’s dream” stood out to me
Due to the “Three Worlds” that Robin reads about, I’m assuming that it’s basically confirmed that there have been 3 holders of the Nika fruit, that coincided with the 3 world-changing events (the first Nika, Joyboy, and now Luffy)
There are 3 demon-like figures, one for each world. I assume they represent the foe that each Nika rose up against, but are they different? Are they the same? Are they all Imu? Only Oda can tell
And here’s everything I took note of on the mural:
The First World
The forbidden sun — power source? Devil Fruits???
Seems like it caused the separation of the earth and the sky/heavens
Lots of factory imagery
Who were the slavers?
The figures (the slaves) carry sun/starburst things. Are these the forbidden sun? Devil fruits? They seem to be throwing them toward the Second World part of the mural, where “embers of war” are mentioned
BIG SNAKE, SERPENT OF HELL, WHO ARE YOU???
The Second World
“The God of the Forest sent forth demons” — is this about devil fruits? Fruits grow on trees (duh) and then obviously demons = devils. And later, it talks about the Sea becoming enraged
Mentions of people belonging to the Half-Moon and the Moon. What is the difference? Is this referencing the Lunarians?
“Humanity killed the Sun, and then ascended to divinity” — they killed Nika or Joyboy? Seems to be about the Celestial Dragons
“The God of the Sea became enraged” — about the rising of the sea levels?
bruh, the boats look like Enel’s ship. If Enel comes back, I’ll lose my mind
The Third World
Where we are now. The final arc. What we should expect. The future.
References the Void Century and how the Elders and Imu remember what happened and what might happen (“the day of promise”)
“They will surely meet again” Who? The reunion of everything that was separated in the First and Second Worlds? The reunion of all the gods that were mentioned?
The mural is amazing and there are so many details throughout, but especially in this section
Obviously there’s Nika/Joyboy (Luffy) leading an army against a figure that’s probably Imu
Under Imu, there’s a boat with figures in white uniforms — Marines/the World Gov
In Nika’s army, there are figures that represent: giants, minks, lunarians, mermaids and fishmen, samurai/ninja/people from Wano, a robot (Emet?), dwarves/tontatta, Sea Kings/Laboon (the whale), and a ship with a flag that looks like the Alabasta kingdom’s flag (@sabo-torao’s post brought my attention to that, shoutout to them)
There are so many details that I probably missed and so many things that Oda probably hasn’t explored yet, but will and I’m so excited
But TLDR: Oda cooked, Lore Piece is real, this chapter was fantastic, and the final war arc is gonna blow my mind
How is 1138 shuggy piece? The only comment there about buggy is luffy not liking him?
i said it as a joke, referencing the fact some shuggy haters keep insisting that shanks and buggy see each other as brothers; i made the joke because luffy went out of his way to exclude buggy from the whole "the roger pirates are shanks's family" thing lol. just harmless fun
...did luffy basically just debunk the "shanks and buggy see each other as brothers" theory lol
What are your top 10 characters and why is Law so high?
law is so high because he's amazingly written and a really captivating character! i've been a law fan since i first got into one piece, i've always been interested in him and the more i learned about him the more i loved him. i obviously don't think he's underrated, but i do think he's a greatly misunderstood character. more people should give him a chance instead of stopping at "he's not the strongest so whatever". i love how he evolved with the story and he holds his place in the narrative really well. 10/10 character. then of course there are other, more personal reasons that justify his place in my list of all-time favorite characters, like his closed-off nature and naturally distrusting demeanor, which are traits i always tend to seek out in fictional characters <3
in no particular order, my absolute favorite one piece characters are law, buggy, zoro and ace. then there are, of course, penguin and shachi. other favorites are baby 5, perona, sabo and uta! so i would say this is my top 10. there are a lot more characters i routinely obsess over, but if i started naming them this would just end up being a boring and almost endless list, so i'll refrain from doing so. you can always ask again if you're really interested, maybe i'll post a tier list, who knows.
Hi I wanted to give you my firstborn and that still stays or whatever you wish to take
But
Do you think that would open up buggy? The fact that shanks could be the worse kid? How you imagine that play out? HC territory I know
oh anon i LIVE in headcanon territory. i built a whole house in there. so don't be afraid to ask me about it!
buggy is obviously very resentful towards shanks, and i don't think that'd change easily. at the same time, though, he would obviously feel bad for him... i mean, buggy does hold grudges, but we've also seen him being compassionate on rare occasions. there's a possibility he would be more likely to forgive shanks if he knew about all this. i can easily imagine him feeling bad when he realizes shanks wasn't seen as the perfect kid by everyone </3
we have too little information right now, so i don't feel like i can elaborate further, but i would love to write something more substantial on this topic in the future!
novel law's english localization has just been announced!!!
even though my first language isn't english and we already have an official localization where i live, i'm still celebrating. i hope this gets more people interested in the novel! it's full of information on how the heart pirates were born, and it gives a new perspective on law and how he manages grief. i think it's a must read for every heart pirates fan, so i'm glad they finally decided to publish an official english translation. make sure to grab a copy when it's out!
Im going to give you my firstborn because you made me believe in shanks again
Love you man
oh??? i didn't know i had this power lol, thank you so much!!! <3
this might be surprising to hear but on a personal level i'm not too fond of shanks as a character, he has made some choices in the past that i strongly disagree with (i'm a firm buggy apologist)... but i still appreciate his place in the story and the way he's written a lot. he's one of the characters i spend more time analyzing and dissecting. i'm usually not a fan of extremely mysterious characters, but with shanks it's different. i don't know how to explain it. i would love to perform open brain surgery on him
i'm still gonna call shamrock "stabs" instead
LMAOOOO that's honestly a cooler name, surely gets stuck in your head more easily than shamrock
i don't know why, but in my mind i've always subconsciously associated shanks with four-leaf clovers. i think it's because of shuggy and a particular song that makes me think of them which mentions four-leaf clovers ???
so when i realized what shamrock's name referred to, i was pleasantly surprised. it might make more sense narratively once we know more about their past, but for now, i'm choosing to believe shamrock is the three-leaf clover because he wasn't actually meant to be the "chosen one", but shanks was.
I just preferred shanks to be the interesting one with more layers rather than twist done to death by every comic book in history
that's valid honestly, i can't even argue with that because that IS an overused trope lmao. but i think this will be an opportunity to see a new side of shanks, one that isn't shrouded in mystery, but instead open, emotional and dramatic.
let's just hope oda will surprise us (like he often does), maybe he will use the trope in a way that positively serves the plot!
Hi 😊👋 I'm a huge fan of Law too. I've just finished reading Law novel too. Maybe you want to share your thoughts on this asks:
Does Law see his crew as subordinates or friends? Would you say that Law has a weakness for people who have a trauma too? 🤔
i'm sure law sees them all as his friends.
at the start of the novel, when law asks bepo, shachi and penguin if they want to stay with him and wolf, it's not because law and wolf actually need someone that can help them with their tasks, it's just because law wants to offer them a safe place to stay, but he's not in touch with his emotions enough to admit it. when he recruits them, he even calls them his subordinates explicitly, but it's clearly just a part of his façade; again, he's not ready to admit he cares about them yet. sure enough, by the end of the first novel, he refers to them as his friends, and has matured enough to admit he loves them and realize that he can count on them. also, the fact law often seems to separate from his crew before he gets into any dangerous situation is kind of relevant to this conversation: he prefers to go solo or to form a temporary alliance with other pirate crews because he doesn't want to put his crew in danger, not because he thinks they aren't strong enough. he always tries to keep his crew safe no matter what, because they're more than allies to him, they're his friends, his family, and the only people he has left. this is also the reason the clash against the blackbeard pirates is so heartbreaking: law tried his best to protect his crew, because he didn't want to, once again, experience the loss of the people he loves most, but he couldn't do anything to prevent it.
i do think law finds himself drawn to other people with trauma, especially if their trauma is in any way related to their families. even though law always tries to hide his actions behind the "i acted on a whim" excuse, it's clear that his empathy gets the best of him when he has to choose whether to recruit someone for his crew. we've seen this with every crew member with a canon backstory: first it was bepo, who set sail to try and find his brother and found himself stranded and alone; then it was penguin and shachi, who lost their families and ended up being used and abused by the adults that should have protected them; and now, in the newest chapter, it's hakugan, who lost his parents and has to bear the responsibility of raising his little sister alone. all of them are scarred and survived multiple traumatic events. law sees his reflection in his crewmates, when he looks into their eyes he can see the little boy he once was, scared, alone and devoid of purpose. that's why he's so determined to help them, and offers them a place in his crew with no hesitation: he wants to be to them what cora was to him, even though he probably doesn't realize it.
thank you so much for your question, anon!
I hate shanks twin so much
this made me laugh out loud, thank you anon
seeing he's the leader of the god's knights it's a sentiment i completely understand and share. however i'm still excited to see how this whole thing plays out, it might be an appealing subplot storyline, and i also can't wait to see how shanks will react to all this lmao. i love analyzing shanks through his reactions and this seems like it will be quite the wild ride for him lol
