The day had been uneventful, boring, normal. But something about the day had your skin crawling. You werenât sure what had set you off, and yet here you were pacing. Something you only did when you were anxious.
Your phone chirped with another notification, probably one of your socials. Your anxiety had you reaching for it immediately. Seeing the name of your ex pop up on the screen had your stomach dropping immediately. Neither of you had reached out in months. The man who had blustered out of your life as fast as he had blustered in was texting you.
You threw the phone onto the couch without reading the notification. Sure you could find out immediately what he wanted if you actually read the text, instead you screamed into the throw pillow. Your mind began to run with all of the possibilities of why this man would choose now to text you. Did he want money? Was he dying? Was he texting just to let you know how little you meant to him?
The last one, it was definitely the last one.
You stood from the couch and glared at the small black rectangle that had ruined your otherwise boring day. Your phone chirped again, and you physically recoiled from the sound. Deciding a drink would help with whatever it was your ex wanted you dazedly walked to the kitchen. When you opened the fridge, your gaze immediately found the bottle of wine you had bought on a whim on the weekend. Something the lady at the grocery store had recommended since you looked so lost in the wine section. Grabbing the bottle and bypassing a glass was the best way to handle this conversation you decided.
You sat on the couch, taking a long pull from the neck of the bottle before reaching for your phone. Taking a deep breath to calm your nerves you unlocked the phone screen and tapped on the messages icon. There was his name in big bold letters: Andy. You hesitated as your finger hovered over the message, you could see his second message clearly Are you too busy to talk now? Maybe you could just not read it. Or read them and never respond. Or read them and respond later.
You hated every single one of those options, because you knew as soon as you opened these messages youâd be responding immediately. You took another long pull from your bottle, and placed the phone back down beside you. You needed your mind to stop. The thinking, the over-thinking, it was too much. You flipped on the TV to distract yourself and curled up like a cat. Your phone chirped again from under a throw pillow, and you pointedly ignored it.
You werenât ready to deal with Andy. You had thought when he ended things that you would never hear from him again. Devastated. That was the only word you could use to describe how you felt after he left. You still didnât even understand why he had ended things, only that he clearly hadnât felt as strongly as you did about him.
There was another chirp that had you sighing and grabbing for your phone. You had to deal with it, or he wouldnât stop. That was Andy. You pulled up the messages anticipating at least a double text, but completely unprepared for all the messages he had sent you,
I know this is out of the blue, but I need to speak to you.
Are you too busy to talk now?
Please Honey, I need to talk to you.
Itâs important.
HoneyâŠ
Of course, the man could double text you, but would refuse to supply what he actually wanted to speak to you about. You typed out several potential responses before deciding on something polite but to the point.
Andy, I can talk. Whatâs going on?
You didnât have to wait long for Andyâs equally to the point response.
Can I call you?
You stared at the message for a moment. You knew you couldnât hear his voice, it would take you right back to where you were. All those months ago when he broke your heart. All the hurt, and the anger, it would be right there.
As you debated what to say, your phone began to ring. The man had absolutely no patience. You stared at his name, and without thinking answered the phone.
âHelloâŠâ You sat and waited for him to say his peace, how bad could it be.
âHoney, Iâm sorry.â You shuddered as Andyâs voice came through the phone. You forgot how his deep timbre had always made you feel comforted, and safe, and warm. âHow are you doing? I know I shouldnât beâŠI donâtâŠAre you okay?â
You hesitated before you answered. Months ago you wouldâve known exactly what to say to Andy to make him feel better. Now it felt like you were talking to a stranger. âIâm fine Andy. Why are you hammer messaging me?â
Andy chuckled lightly, and you smiled at the lilting notes. âYou havenât changed.â Your eye twitched at that comment. âI just, I needed to hear your voice, Honey.â
âSo you messaged me repeatedly?â You could hear the annoyance in your tone, which meant that Andy could hear it ten times louder.
âYouâre right, Iâm sorry. I shouldnât have done thisâŠâ Andy trailed off and sighed. You huffed and pulled the phone away from your ear for a moment so you could murmur your annoyance to yourself.
âJust say it Andy, why did you reach out? Why are we on the phone?â You pulled at the threads on the throw pillow under your arm.
âI miss you.â
You felt the air leave your lungs. You couldnât have heard him right. He missed you? No, no he was dying, or broke, or literally anything else.
âYou-what?â You spluttered out the only thought that came to your mind.
Andy chuckled nervously, âI miss you. I miss your smile, and your laugh. I miss the way your forehead pinches when youâre focused. I miss the way you would take care of me. The moment I ended things? I knew I had made a mistake, and so I told myself that it was kinder to you, to just move on.â
You sat there in silence, shocked at his sudden declarations. âWhy, why did you end things? What happened? Andy, I loved you so much, and then out of nowhere you just up and ended things.â
You heard Andy sigh on the other end of the phone. You could picture him scrubbing his hand down his face and scratching at the beard hairs on his chin. His nervous habit. âI got scared, I think.â He chuckled again, âI know itâs not a good excuseâŠâ
You rolled your eyes. âThatâs a terrible excuse Andy. What scared you? That I loved you? That I wanted to be a part of your life? Please tell me, what exactly scared you so badly that you ended the best relationship Iâve ever had?â
You slapped a hand over your mouth. You hadnât meant to let all of that out.
There was a long drawn out silence. âI think it was how strongly I felt about you. I wasâŠscared of what that meant. Before I met you I thought I knew what love was. I was sure I had felt it. But once that feeling truly hit me? I couldnât actually function.â Andy sighed again, âThis isnât coming out right.â
You took another long pull off of your bottle of wine. You let Andyâs words roll over in your mind. Could he actually be telling the truth? His love for you was so strong that he got scared. It just didnât seem right, there was something else, there had to be.
âSo what youâre saying is, our love was too much for you?â Your tone rang with annoyance and a little bit of desperation. You remembered any time you had tried to get something out of Andy that he didnât want to tell you, how carefully youâd have to tread, otherwise he would shut down. As much as you wanted to tell him off, end the call and block his number forever. There was still a part of you that needed to know the real reason, so before Andy could respond you continued. âAndy, as much as I love this game of cat and mouse weâre playing, where itâs like pulling teeth to get information out of you,â You heard him softly chuckle on the other end of the line, âI just need the truth, maybe it will hurt me, maybe it wonât but I need it.â
There was a long silence on the line. Although it made you nervous and want to say something to fill it, you sat and sipped on your slowly warming wine while you waited for his response. Your bluntness would have one of two effects: either he would fold and tell you what you wanted, no needed to know, or he would shut down and it would be months, if ever, before you heard from him again.
His heavy sigh preceded his response, âYouâre right, and wrong.â He paused as if he was gathering his thoughts. âIt is true that the feeling of love between us scared me, but itâs also that it scared me so much thatâŠâ
âThat what?â You knew what he was going to say, felt it deep within your soul. Your heart was about to be broken by Andy Barber once again, and what was worse, you had practically asked him to do it this time.
âI slept with someone else. It only happened once, but it was before I ended things.â
âI see.â It was all you could get out. You could feel the twisting in your chest again, the anger burning behind your eyes, the tears welling and choking you with their strength.
âIâm so sorry Honey. As soon as it was over I knew I had fucked up. But I also knew if that I couldnât be with you still, it wasnât fair to you.â You could hear the pleading in his voice, and it only made the anger burn stronger. Like his words had lit a match and poured kerosene over top.
âSo you called me now, toâŠwhat? Make yourself feel better?â Your breathing was hard, almost panting in your anger.
âI donât know why Iâm calling. I just know that Iâve regretted that decision ever since. I miss what you brought to my life: the pure joy, the love I could feel down to my core.â Andyâs voice was strained. It was only then that you realized he was crying.
âAre you drunk Andy?â It was the only time you had ever seen him cry, when he had one too many with the boys after work.
âNo, I swear. I promise Honey, I havenât had a drink tonight.â
You took another sip of wine. Contemplating the truth in Andyâs words, the burn of his betrayal. This was just too much.
âWell Iâm glad youâve finally told me the truth Andy. Even if it is months later.â You hugged your throw pillow to your chest as you prepared yourself to say the words that you knew would hurt him as much as they would hurt you. âI canât forgive you, for any of it. Please, just leave me alone.â
Before you could second guess your decision, you hung up the phone. You stared blankly at the TV screen, not even remembering what you had put on in the first place. What shook you from your reverie was a dull thud from your door. Like someone had just planted their forehead against it.
You stood and quickly crossed the room to check what the noise was. It was only once your hand was on the handle you knew: Andy. You unlocked the door, and twisted the handle slowly, knowing the man who had destroyed you not once, but twice was standing on the other side.
When your eyes connected with his, you could feel all of the love, joy and affection come flooding back. It took everything within you to not jump into his arms and sob until you had nothing left. Instead you gripped the doorframe like it was the only thing holding you up.
âHoneyâŠâ Andyâs voice was just above a whisper, so quiet that you werenât even sure you heard it. His hands reached out and thumbed at the tears quietly streaming down your face. âOh Honey, Iâm so sorry.â
With that he pulled you against his chest. You could smell the high end cologne he wore to work, and the underlying scent of pure Andy. The warmth of his chest and his arms wrapping around your back had you losing all control. You sobbed with abandon into his neck, no words leaving your lips. Andy scooped you up and walked you both into your apartment. Using his foot to shut the door behind him.
He sat down on your couch, with you tucked against his chest and began murmuring quietly to you. You couldnât make out most of it, but did catch the odd word. âShh Honey.â âI know, Iâm so sorry.â âJust let it out, okay?â
When you finally felt like you could cry no more, you pulled your face from Andyâs neck. You could feel how swollen your eyes were, in fact your whole face felt puffy. âI still donât forgive you.â
Andy let out a full belly laugh at your meekly spoken words. To which you glared at him and crossed your arms across your chest.
âOkay, okay.â He wheezed in a breath, âIâm sorry Honey. Please just give me a chance to make it up to you. Even if that means I donât get to feel your love again, let me just try to make this right.â
You reached out and stroked his cheek. Feeling his soft skin contrast with the roughness of his beard. You could see the dark circles under his eyes, see the grayness of his skin. âI need time Andy.â
He sighed, and let his eyes flutter shut. âOf course Honey, whatever you need.â
You reluctantly stood from his embrace, âPlease leave Andy, Iâll call you when Iâm ready.â
He nodded solemnly. Andy stood, he moved to hug you, but you took a few steps out of his reach. He nodded again before heading for the door.
âHoney?â His back was still to you.
âYeah?â
âI still love you, more than anything. And I promise to do everything I can to show you that.â
âAndy, maybe we should both promise not to promise anymore.â

Summary: Just because the First Order dismantled, doesnât mean the Resistance has stopped fighting for the freedom of the galaxy. Youâre newly recruited and stationed at a base thatâs run by the legend himself, General Poe Dameron. Based on this artwork + my shitty edits.
Warning: age gap, Poe's kinda a dick, smut - rough sex, p in v, choking, oral (m receiving), this Poe is suuuuuuper ooc.
A/N: I'M WRITING FOR POE AGAIN! YAY! Also, I might write more if people want. because i do have more ideas for this version of Poe...

You've been with the Resistance for a short time. A little under five years. Despite the end of the First Order, that didn't mean that there weren't still people who wanted to take over the galaxy. The Resistance still remained in tact taking care of those who tried to take the First Order's place, as well as keeping the overall galaxy safe.
In the time you've been with the Resistance, you heard about the legends such as Rey Skywalker, General Finn, and General Poe Dameron. Rey and Finn were off on the other side of the galaxy, training new and upcoming Jedis. General Poe Dameron? Well, he stuck with the Resistance.
You grew up hearing stories about him. He had saved your parents, Resistance fighters as well, and if it wasn't for him, you wouldn't be here. You thought that when you'd meet him, he'd be just as witty and charming like your parents described.
Unfortunately, he was the opposite.

yelena is aroace, why is it so hard for you to admit it???
Iâve been staying away from this because it feels like such a pointless thing to argue about. Despite me having my own tagging system that keeps me out of the show, character, and ship tags a seemingly endless amount of you have been ceaselessly hounding me for days, trying to police what I say and do on my blog. I've finally reached my breaking point soâŠhere we go I guess.
Letâs start with the basics since it appears that most of you fail to grasp even that. Thereâs two distinctly different concepts that fandom conflates and/or tries to use interchangeably because evidently only a handful of us took a literature class in school. Time for a lesson.
CANON: Canon are the elements of a fictional story that are officially a part of it. Canon is IRREFUTABLE information provided directly from the media to the audience. In movies and TV this would mean things like action or dialogue that happen ON SCREEN. In a book or comic it would be things EXPLICITLY said or shown on the page. Canon isnât fan interpretation/speculation, fix-its, headcanons, what-ifs, something an actor said at a con in front of 200 people or that they âthought maybe thatâs a thing their character would doâ at an interview in a press junket. Canon is what is IN THE TEXT. End of story.
AUTHORIAL INTENT & DEATH OF THE AUTHOR:
-Authorial Intent: An author can have an âintentionâ with a piece but that ends the moment the story is out of their hands and the reader/viewer takes ownership of it. Why? Because none of us see the world the same way. Literally. The author simply cannot control how an individual will read their work, cannot dictate how we embrace what they supposedly wrote, and cannot force us to throw out our own takeaway of the text. It is entirely possible that my experience with the text or the characters is vastly different than what they âintendedâ that to be and there is nothing wrong with that. Once art is out in the world it is going to take a life of its own. That is how subjectivity works.
-Death Of The Author: TV Tropes defines Death Of The Author as follows: âIt holds that an author's intentions and background (including their politics and religion) should hold no special weight in determining how to interpret their work. This is usually understood to mean that a writer's views about their own work are no more or less valid than the interpretation of the reader.â
Now that weâve established both those things letâs break down Yelenaâs case in particular.
Letâs start with the âAceâ part. It is more than obvious that you guys are taking AUTHORIAL INTENT and confusing it with CANON. One of the authors wrote an obscure blog post where they expressed some thoughts. Letâs highlight key quotes from the post:
âMost scholars agree that the first official use of âaromanticâ was documented in 2005. Thatâs thirty-five years after I was born, six years after Yelena was invented, andâfictionally--approximately ten years after Yelena would have come into being (in the version of events where she was born rather than cloned).â
Oh well...right off the bat, Authorial Intent seems to be out the window. The term didnât even exist when they created Yelena ergo it is impossible that they set out to write her as âaceâ. Next.
âBut now, letâs talk a bit about Yelena. When I first invented her, I didnât give much thought to her romantic life or sexuality because neither factored into the story I was telling at the time. Later, when I had lived with her a little longer and someone asked me if she might be ACE, I thought that actually made a lot of sense for her.â
This is an "afterthought" situation. Iâm not saying this to undermine the writer as a person, saying they have ill will, or calling them a liar. But this is - as clearly stated BY THEM - an afterthought. Yelena was not created as an "ace" character. Next.
These are going to be two quotes:
âI like the idea of her being ACE and hope they go with that, but despite my 20+ years writing comics, there isnât even anyone there I can mention that to. Thatâs not how comics work. Even if I said sheâs X or Y or X and Y, Marvel might be a day away from releasing something that takes her in a totally different direction. Ultimately, my ideas about how Yelena identifies are no more right or wrong than yours.
I have a lot to say about how unfairly creative IP is handled in this industry, but thatâs not what weâre here to discuss. What I do want to impart is that itâs a bad idea to trust multibillion-dollar corporations to represent you and your community.â
and
âI am a fan-fic writer and RPer, though, and I firmly believe that when you write or play or draw a character, you get to decide what is and isnât true about them. No one can tell you youâre wrong (except, perhaps, your GM) â thatâs the entire point. So if your question is really, âdo you think itâs okay if I write/play Yelena as X or Y or interested in Z,â I am always going to support your choices. 100%. Do what you think feels right and makes sense. FWIW, you have my blessing."
The writer is LITERALLY TELLING YOU, in black and white, to headcanon Yelena as whatever you want because...
Their own ideas of Yelena are basically headcanons at this point.
They understand the inherent importance of representation and they agree that it would be cool that she could be this one thing but that they do not make and cannot make any creative decisions about what the character is or isnât.
They are making it clear to you - the fan - that they do not get to dictate canon because they do not own the character. Disney/Marvel does. They are telling you that âyou as an individual decide what her truth is and how you want her to represent to YOUâ and yet somehow you guys turned that open invitation into âI must hound everyone who disagrees with my personal interpretation of how I want her to represent MEâ.
Now, relevant quotes excerptedâŠbeyond this one blog post there is no other actual canon evidence in any of the comics of Yelena verbalizing anything about her sexuality. At all. Anywhere. If you have it, please make me eat crow. Correct me. But Iâve been doing vast research on it for a couple of days now and have even asked people to provide it and no one can which is pretty strong evidence that there isnât. All that anyone can come up with is the author's blog post and another interview where they have yet another throwaway sentence of Authorial Intent. This is it:
"PROBABLY MORE LIKELY". That is an opinion, my friends. This is all you have. Intent and Opinions does not canon make.
You want to know what IS canon? You want to know what you all conveniently and willingly choose to gloss over and never mention because it doesn't serve your narrative?
Interesting how I had to start doing research into Yelena to learn that because in this entire conversation about ârepresentationâ sex workers and sex positive, feminist women had never once come up. Funny how apparently sex workers donât deserve a superhero then? Hmmmm...
Iâm not saying one is more worthy than the other, just a point I figured was worth flagging because it just seems oh so very curious to me.
--
Letâs move onto the âAroâ part because this is the real doozy. This is the one yâall truly bent yourselves into a pretzel to come up with. At least there is some sort of something you can cling to on the "ace" front but on this one you really just went for the mountain of straws and started to grasp.
The "proof" you guys use of her being "aro" is a single panel of her saying "I'm not...anything". Here's the entire scene instead of just the one frame you guys use out of context:
I'm going to use two different sources here to debunk this one.
- This person had already read the whole series the panel you guys chose to extract that ONE frame from and completely misconstrue to support your point. Here are a couple of excerpts of the ask they answered:
ââŠItâs more people seeing that one panel and misunderstanding it.[âŠ] The panel where she says "Iâm not anything" is a reoccurring theme throughout this series specifically about her not seeing herself as the Black Widow and her dehumanization of herself. The full page itself is about the woman she was talking to goading Yelena by asking if she was into BDSM.â
I then had a DM conversation with the person to find out more because I wanted to get further context about the series as a whole since they had the full picture. I specifically asked them questions about this part. They said the following:
âThe way she [the woman] degrades her [Yelena] and calls her worthless is supposed to be feeding into Yelena thinking she isnât as good as Natasha and how sheâs not truly the Black Widow. The "I Am Nothing" is the writers very badly trying to ham fist their way into having Yelena saying she is nothing as she is not the Black Widow, which is the main point of the comic."
Without having read the rest of the comic, if I were to see these panels in isolation, I would have a slightly different interpretation of the scene, because...again...no one digests texts the same way. This is a prime example of that. What I would gather from it is that Yelena would be saying âI am nothingâ as in âI donât label myself as anythingâ rather than literally just jumping straight to âI am aromanticâ. LikeâŠthat is such a giant stretch that itâs almost laughable.
The second person I'm quoting is an AROACE person who made a whole thread on twitter agreeing that Yelena is NOT canon aroace and sharing pretty solid (and similar) factual evidence as to why.
[Full disclosure: I was sent this link as I was in the process of finishing this post by someone who knew I was writing it and I figured it was worth adding an Aro/Ace voice to the mix as well].
Here are some good excerpts:
"...in said interview grayson talks about yelena being asexual then proceeds to describe yelena as aromatic instead, making it clear that she doesn't know the difference between the two orientations..."
The writer then proceeds to break down and analyze the same misconstrued panels I was quoting above. She runs through several possible scenarios of what that scene could mean, all just as likely as the other. All valid interpretations. All different versions of Yelena as an LGBT character. This is the most important part to me tho:
"...once again think about the time and place yelena grew up in. you're going to try and tell me yelena knows what asexual is and what it means? muchless aromantic? she grew up in approximately 70s russia... expecting her to know her sexuality at that point is kinda weird?
now with all this in mind (especially the last three!) it pretty much completely erases any chance that those panels are meant to be her saying shes aroace. as far as im aware these are the only two pieces of evidence people try to use to confirm yelena as canonically aroace. both are very easily debunked.
i am by no means here to tell anyone not to write yelena as aroace, she's your character do what you want! i'm only here to educate people on this topic. and as someone who is BOTH aro and ace its absolutely my place to speak on this. [...] all i want is for this non-existent canon to stop being continuously shoved down everyone's throats."
And finally:
"i'd also just like to add the way a lot of people tend to handle this topic of conversation is very weird. if your first instinct when you see an aroace character is to say they cant be shipped or cant have sex... that's weird! aroace is a spectrum! not all aroaces are repulsed by sex and relationships! yes, some aroaces are! but not all of them. to immediately force her into that box with no evidence is extremely stereotypical! a very good majority of conversation based around aroace yelena is riddled with stereotypes."
--
I'm going to revisit the opening lesson for a beat because it has to do with my final point. Let me quote myself in case we already forgot:
"Canon is IRREFUTABLE information provided directly from the media to the audience. In movies and TV this would mean things like action or dialogue that happen ON SCREEN."
Why am I circling back? Because with this new wave of IP and adaptations that we're living in. So many pieces of IP are getting adapted from podcasts, comics, books, etc into TV/Film. Changes are always going to be made from the original to the screen. Always. ALWAYS. What is canon in one is not necessarily going to be canon in the other. They're two completely separate pieces of media. Every single time. They immediately become divorced and stand-alone from each other as soon as a derivative is created.
It's why you see things like couples being "endgame" in books but not in shows/movies. Or people being alive or dead in books but not in TV/films. Or major story points being changed. Or new characters being introduced or omitted from adaptations at all. They are not the same thing. Canon on text is one thing. CANON ON SCREEN IS ANOTHER. Shut up already about "what's canon here must be canon here" and learn the difference.
Do you want to know how much characters/relationships have changed from Marvel comics to the MCU? Let me list a few things that are canon in the comics just for quick references.
Black Widow had romances with Bucky, Hawkeye, and Daredevil.
Hela is Lokiâs daughter not his sister.
Pepper was never married to Tony.
Black Window and the Hulk have never been on the Avengers together.
Natasha and Yelena are rivals not sisters.
I could keep going but I think you get the point. Marvel Comics are not the MCU. I'll repeat:
Simply because something happens or is true is one does not mean it must be true in the other. It is especially important to drive that point home in this case because "Yelena is aroace" isn't even a canon fact in the comics. It's farfetched at best. At best.
My goal with this is not to tell you to not headcanon Yelena as aroace. If that is important to you, dear god fucking do it to your heart's content. No one is trying to fucking take that from you. Matter of fact, if you want to string two whispers of a stretch together and pretend in your delusional little head that itâs âcanonâ be my guest. Where the issue begins is that you are now trying to militaristically enforce this âcanonâ myth when it is nothing more than thatâŠA MYTH. And you are trying to force it on people who weren't fighting you on it to begin with. People like me who were just over here in my own corner of the internet minding my own business. I wasnât invading your spaces, arguing with any of you, or trying to debunk any of your beliefs until you all insisted on coming to me with this bullshit over and over and over again.
All I - a casual viewer who had zero knowledge of the comics or the backstory - wanted to do was calmly enjoy and interpret these two characters and their relationship however the show had established them which was...AS A BLANK SLATE. Right now in the MCU they are non-denominational. They have never said Kate is [XYZ] and Yelena is [ABC] therefore I am free to construe them and pair them however I see fit. It is not up to you to tell me otherwise.
Now, with all that settled, leave me the fuck alone.
