Please watch Jan Broberg's documentary "Abducted In Plain Sight". Please watch the 90s documentary about The Children Of God organization. Look at the COUNTLESS Epstein documentaries. It exists and us victims are not making up "absurd stories". Ffs this shit is STILL going on, look at the shit going on in the Catholic church and many other churches. I think one reason It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia resonates with people is because it doesn’t try to present a sitcom reality in which things are always okay and work out, where conflicts are always resolved and where the characters are quirky but not dysfunctional. The Sunny characters are fucked up and they deal with their fucked-up-ness in fucked up ways and often those fucked-up ways are the only ways they have available.

And I think for some people it’s oddly comforting to see that reality displayed on a screen. 

If you’ve had an experience in your life where you’ve had to deal with a broken system or where you’ve realized that the only things available to help you cope are imperfect at best or fucked up at worst, if you’ve ever looked around and realized what you got isn’t fair but there’s no way to rectify it….then this show will resonate with you. It makes you feel seen, in some odd way. The way that love and care genuinely exists alongside hurt and trauma and bad decisions and bad circumstances. And it’s all mixed up so you can’t even pull apart if you wanted to. And people don’t get it, so you don’t even try to explain it. And it’s a little fucked up, you know that, but it’s also so good sometimes, and that’s what people don’t get. And, for better or worse, it’s yours. It makes you feel like oh I wasn’t crazy when everyone was acting like I could fix this if I just followed the right steps, but none of those steps actually exists in the way they think it does. And then you just have to laugh, you know? Because this shit is funny and life is funny and it’s good, honestly, it is still good, even when you’re crying, even when it sucks. Something something it’s always sunny even when it’s not, you know? 

Or idk maybe you’re just a dudebro who thinks dArK hUmOuR is funny. I’m not gonna tell you how to live your life. 

And on a similar fucking note

I’m so fucking sick of seeing noncon cod fics get a huge amount of notes when there are writers who spend countless hours curating intimate and in depth pieces that are not mindless smut fics that completely assassinate the characters who you are writing for.

The CoD men are not abusers. They are soldiers who have been subject to horrifying violence and human rights abuses and who’s ENTIRE STORY is trying to make the world safer. Why the hell would they sexually assault people when it goes directly against their core beliefs.

And Ghost.

Ghost is a sexual assault survivor. It’s in the comics you didn’t bother to read. Why on EARTH would he experience violent trauma and decide to replicate it on other people? It is incredibly disrespectful to write him as a monster with no regard for consent given his background. AND it’s so clearly indicative of the fact that you’ve done zero close reading of the things you are writing for.

It is so horribly clear to me that so many people in this fandom don’t actually bother to read the wiki, watch the games, have ANY knowledge of the media you are writing for. Just took one look at a tall military man and decided to ‘simp’ for him by writing him sexually assaulting people or being abusive and violent. It’s not fucking sexy to be sexually assaulted. It’s not fucking sexy to be the subject of dubious consent. And ‘borrowing’ those characters to make them do as such genuinely concerns me.

What concerns me more will be the attention these fics get. You wonder why writers are leaving. It’s shit like this. The clear disregard of beautifully written fiction in favor of noncon smut that ignores the basic fundamentals of these deeply complex characters who are instead reduced to ‘rough military man sexy’.

Teenagers are rarely taught the reason why they can't consent to sex with adults.

And that's because teaching them that would completely unravel our coercion-based society.

It can be difficult to explain in detail the exact reason and all the specifics in a way that they will understand. But the simplest way to phrase it is that in some cases, even when someone agrees to something and even when they appear enthusiastic about it, there's too much of a power imbalance that it's no different than forcing them. Also, having power and being abusive doesn't require a conscious expectation to be obeyed.

Imagine a world in which every teenager understood that and was easily able to call out anyone who tried to convince them otherwise.

They'd know that there's no such thing as an employee consenting to working for a poverty wage, working in unsafe conditions, working long hours, or working without taking breaks. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to paying a bank overdraft fee. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to student loan debt. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to medical bills. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to generating profit for banks or landlords in order to have a place to live and being evicted or foreclosed when you lose your source of income. They'd know that there's no such thing as consenting to a police search. They'd know that there's no such thing as a child who's okay with their parents spanking them. They'd know that being dependent on someone does not mean that you can never criticize them. They'd know that if it's considered abusive to simply play along when someone obeys, then it has to be much more abusive to actively expect to be obeyed, which many adults do to them.

And people who benefit from a society based on coercion masquerading as freedom wouldn't like that.

So instead, teenagers are taught something dismissive. They're taught that what they want doesn't matter. They're taught that they're too young to know what love is. They're taught "it's the law". They're taught things that are insulting to their intelligence, which they'll naturally rebel against.
