Not much usually gets past Sasuke's inspection, especially when it comes to his friend. He takes him in before giving the sake bottle a once over before he settles himself in the seat across from his desk, a snort escaping him. " -- Why? Are you getting lonely without me, loser?"

Fingers reached for one of the small ochokos, lifting it in anticipation for the sake to be poured into it. " I get that you're the top of the chain now, but maybe you should be careful about drinking while on the clock. You don't want to get chewed out, do you?"

It was less an admonishment and more of an inquiry -- softly probing, as dark eyes watched Naruto's face, head tilting a fraction. Is there any reason for it?

"---I'm survivin', but yanno, checking in more than once a blue moon would be nice." Naruto peeked at Sasuke, giving a cheeky grin, before raising up a bottle of sake.

"Want some?"

The fact he was drinking at work probably said more than he wanted it to. The sleeping arrangements in the next room would too.

His fingers skim over Naruto's warm skin, knowing that even in the dead of sleep only the most minute touch would awaken him. Well --- they were ninja after all, were they not?

" ... You were dreaming again." The Uchiha offers in a way of explanation when those blue eyes crack open, his expression still neutral as he looked down to him, tilting his head just slightly. The way his expression had pinched alongside his muttered words had made him feel a bit ... concerned.

... Or maybe just guilty. Considering his name had escaped at one point.

" ... I'm here." He offers, still awkward and clunky with his comfort, but trying nonetheless. Especially for him. " ... I'm still here."

I didn't leave ... again.

It was a miracle that he was event lingering inside the village at all, but he figured he could at least check in. See how his former teammates were doing and the state of the village, even if it made his skin crawl to be within in. Sasuke tilts his head towards Naruto, turning his eyes away from the large window of the Hokage's office to focus on the Hokage in question, hesitating a fraction before speaking once more.

" ... Have you been well?"
