unfortunately Val Kilmer is dead at the age of 65 due to pneumonia. Val Kilmer was one of my favorite actors and the reason why I loved Top Gun, can’t believe such an amazing actor has passed. This means that I’m now going to rewatch both Top Guns, Real Genius, and Batman. Rest in peace, you’ll be missed by many
I love how old ppl act like val is so cold and mature when he is the most silly guy in the whole universe

Maverick: And what do I get out of this?
Slider: I will give you a dollar.
Maverick: What do you think I am? A chump? I would never do it for a dollar!
Iceman: How bout two dollars?
Maverick: You got yourself a deal.

Real Genius
AMAZING!!! I loved it so much, will be watching again for the good vibes and fun stuff. Here’s some thoughts:
I’ve been putting off watching this movie for a while, because it’s a Val movie and I was afraid it was going to be a cringey movie but I’d enjoy it anyway bc I love him so much
This was not the case. The movie was fun and cool!
80s vibes were there. I watch movies made in this time period to see ridiculous haircuts, fun outfits, bright colors, and songs where the drummer abuses the hell out of their snare drum, and this Had it for sure. Also extra points for the iconic Tears for Fears song making a debut at the end.
I always love movies about silly shenanigans, ride or die friend groups, and stick-it-to-the-man vibes. This fit that bill for sure.
Aside from the obvious objectification of women typical of the time period, I’d say this movie wasn’t as misogynistic as I thought it would be! Jordan’s character was an actual human being, she was fun and cool and had a cute little romance with Mitch that wasn’t reductive of her humanity. (Bare minimum, but hey. This is an 80s movie. The bar is on the floor). Also, woman in STEM! Points for that.
Oh my god Val Kilmer’s character was a total vibe. He was silly and fun and had heart, and was great to watch. Not to mention how much of a theater kid I could tell Val is 🤣 (the way he pronounces “wh” and his ability to use energy and physical comedy). Which is to say it was amazing. And his character is SOOOO gender, as usual with me and Val characters, but my god the chaos bisexual gremlin vibes were off the CHARTS.
Aaaand how could I close out this review without saying IT FEATURED A PAIR OF RAYBANS!!! it’s per my blog title after all.
Thanks for the rec!! Can’t wait to rewatch and reblog gifsets!!
HOT BESTIES SLAY TOGETHER
TOP GUN Tom "Iceman" Kazansky and his RIO, Ron "Slider" Kerner | 1986
tony scott: okay, you know the drill.
val kilmer: yeah.
tony scott: iceman stares at maverick relentlessly during the first meeting with all the pilots and their RIOs; he dislikes him immediately.
val kilmer: sure.
tony scott: he hates how cocky and arrogant maverick is, how full of himself he seems to be. the stare is full of digust. got it?
val kilmer: loud and clear.
val kilmer: iceman stares at maverick. he's in love-
tony scott: NO-

At First Sight (1999)
aw♡ val's smile is so adorable while tom just looks confused af😭❤
“And nearly a quarter century after Top Gun, when Kilmer and Tom Cruise, by chance, attended the same Los Angeles Lakers game in 2009, they found themselves together again, shown split-screen on the Jumbotron, while Kenny Loggins’s “Danger Zone” played over the speakers.”
One of my all time favorite actors, what a shame! RIP Val!
Favorite films: The Saint; Thunderheart; The Doors; Real Genius; Tombstone; Isle of Doctor Moreau
